Jayme Jyraffe
My viewer just won't open. I've tried TWO different computers, and still nothing. Tried the Viewer 2, Phoenix, and even the Beta Viewer. Both are running Windows 7. One of them is brand new, and the other has run SL before just fine..Any suggestions? This is ridiculous. I have work and a business that I need access to..
Charolotte Caxton
It won't open on either computer? Is it saying unable to connect to a simulator? How far does it get?
Jayme Jyraffe
Nothing at all happens. I click to open, and nothing. No window, no flashings, zip.
Crtjstr Oh
I am also having this similar problem. I have run SL before on this computer. Now it will not open. have tried several times and ways when downloading. Click to start and all I get is the wimdow opens and is divided in half into two shades of black, nothing else. Looking for advise so that I can play again.
Charolotte Caxton
I can't imagine why if you click to open a program on two separate computers why nothing at all would happen. I am sorry, this is beyond me. Once the sun comes up more people will be on so you will get more answers. In the meantime, I will just suggest some generic ideas you may have already tried. Reinstall a viewer. Try opening it from the programs instead of clicking on the shortcut. Perhaps your installation is corrupt, if you know how, uninstall it and try again. There is always the possibility you may need to manually clear your cache. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clear_Cache_OS
Thinkerer Melville
Sounds like a connection probem. Here is the info I have collected Login fails? Lots of logouts? Davene Mocha
Mine has not opened either. I am trying to attend and build a class utilizing Second Life. I use Vista. I have reloaded twice and rebooted computer. Very sad. I love Second Life. Never had problems before. Is there a problem with the upgrade? No log on. Second life logo at the top. One half of my screen is black and the other half is dark gray: Like Crtjstr Oh OK, I can log in. Tried manual delete and reload. Still had problem. Tried beta--still problem. Repermissioned in zone alarm, turned zone alarm off. Still could not use beta but older version worked: Second Life 1.23.5 (136262) Oct 14 2009 12:08:26 (Second Life Release)
Davene Mocha
Looked at clearing the cache but it appears to me that you have to be in 2nd Life to do this--cannot even get any graphics or login--just half black/half gray screen with the ability to minimize, maximize and close... Thinkerer Melville
Do a clean install as described here: Troubleshooting: The viewer screwer http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/12/kit-troubleshooting-viewer-screwer.html No login needed. you just have Windows remove the program and then delete some other files. Then reinstall. Those files you have to delete manually probably have the problem in them. TKR
Charolotte Caxton
There are two different ways to clear cache, each one a different 'level' than the other. The one you do through Me > Preferences > Advanced > Clear Cache is kinda the 'lite' version. It clears a lot of stuff but you still retain all your personal settings. The one where you go to the actual cache folder, removes all of your personal settings and logs and pretty much resets your viewer to default. Here is an article I just came across, it talks about deleting everything SL related on your system: http://blog.nalates.net/2011/02/22/second-life-clean-install/ Like I said though, I don't know if this will or will not solve your issue, I have never seen or read about a half tone screen before
Jayme Jyraffe
Currently on a different computer in my house right now and SL still refuses to open. Anyone else?
Charolotte Caxton
Appallingly enough, this issue seems to be spreading: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Viewers/Second-Life-Viewer-won-t-open-on-any-computer-in-the-house-What/qaq-p/1310687/comment-id/3495#M3495 Are any of you Premium members? Davene Mocha
Thank you for your advice and time. No luck on current versions so far. deleted last old version that worked because I could not do what I was trying to do. Reloaded the last viewer that worked for me 2. I think I will just use it and ignore the encouragement to dowload newest greatest which will not give me login page and is only black with large rectangle, gray which takes up most of the right half. Did delete the cache while in that version. So maybe when I have more time during spring break,March/April may play around with it again..
Davene Mocha
Thank you for your time and advice. The clean install mostly makes sense and I have tried to follow instructions but so far no luck on the newest versions--still no login option and just black/gray screen. Reloading the version 2 as it still works just fine.
Stroke2011
Got the same problem, I was using Phoenix and was told it'd being phased out to try the new Firestorm release. I did an am getting the same symtoms on my Vista system. I submitted a support query to phoenix, and have heard back from them that I shouldn't have bot versions of the release on my system, 3.2.1 and 3.2.2. Well to make this short I went back to phoenix which I knew worked, I get my suroudings fine the first time I loaded it it said something about my clothes are being downloaded , but not to worry, my appearnece would be with my clothes...I got a gaseous blob as me...Not good, I never got clothes. I finally after deleting both viewers from my system, I tried SL Viewer 2, and I'm now a white oval...I deleted all my sl files and dl and oinstalled the latest viewer, and I'm back to the two rectabgle boxes on my system, black and grey like everyone else...Thank you I'm not alone I know it's not me.... Davene Mocha
Was using version 2 but today textures stopped loading and there appeared to be a new version. I loaded that one but it was back to the black and gray. So frustrating...Off to try to reload 2 or find different program...so frustrating.. Tetragonity
I am having this same problem (half black, half grey window). I have tried many different viewers, all with the same result. If anyone found a working solution, please post it!
Tetragonity
Solved. Do not trust Windows for updating drivers - I went directly to producer site and updated from there. After that, it worked fine.
