This is exactly my problem for almost the past month--I have uninstalled, installed, rebooted, deleted roaming second life--5 times this week and who knows how many times in the last month! so frustrating--had this happen a few months ago and older version worked good, but now older version not working. Great sadness.

Was using version 2 but today textures stopped loading and there appeared to be a new version. I loaded that one but it was back to the black and gray. So frustrating...Off to try to reload 2 or find different program...so frustrating..

Version 2 not working well, can log in but textures not loading...tried new download, back to black and gray. So will try either two again or a different viewer?

Also frustrated with "new" version. Ever since mid Dec--I have been wasting hours trying to figure out how to get 2nd life to work. Then I found I had the Viewer 2 in my downloads and I used it and a kind soul told me how to stop the autodownloads that I had to keep uninstalling and then reinstalling 2 AGAIN!! Now today I tried my "2" and textures are not showing well at all. I saw there was a different version--so I tried that and back to the first problem of a black screen with almost half gray screen--no login, no menu. So frustrating. Trying to take a class and make a class and now I am going to look at one of those other viewers...I want to be building!!

LoveAngel Lyre seems to have theI best answer. I wish I would have noted how to keep the auto update from happening, but at least I will not have to reload the old version a THIRD time. Sigh. Version 3 is bad for me. Version 2 good--YAY! Auto updates--bad! Thank you LoveAngel Lyre.

Thank you for your time and advice. The clean install mostly makes sense and I have tried to follow instructions but so far no luck on the newest versions--still no login option and just black/gray screen. Reloading the version 2 as it still works just fine.

Thank you for your advice and time. No luck on current versions so far. deleted last old version that worked because I could not do what I was trying to do. Reloaded the last viewer that worked for me 2. I think I will just use it and ignore the encouragement to dowload newest greatest which will not give me login page and is only black with large rectangle, gray which takes up most of the right half. Did delete the cache while in that version. So maybe when I have more time during spring break,March/April may play around with it again..

This same exact thing is happening to me and it is interesting that I downloaded the new version the day before you did and have still had no success after three different downloads. I will try the instructions below. I hope you got your fixed? Using older version: Second Life 1.23.5 (136262) Oct 14 2009 12:08:26 (Second Life Release) is working for me..

Looked at clearing the cache but it appears to me that you have to be in 2nd Life to do this--cannot even get any graphics or login--just half black/half gray screen with the ability to minimize, maximize and close...

Mine has not opened either. I am trying to attend and build a class utilizing Second Life. I use Vista. I have reloaded twice and rebooted computer. Very sad. I love Second Life. Never had problems before. Is there a problem with the upgrade? No log on. Second life logo at the top. One half of my screen is black and the other half is dark gray: Like Crtjstr Oh OK, I can log in. Tried manual delete and reload. Still had problem. Tried beta--still problem. Repermissioned in zone alarm, turned zone alarm off. Still could not use beta but older version worked: Second Life 1.23.5 (136262) Oct 14 2009 12:08:26 (Second Life Release)
