  1. I really dislike the look of having my ankle in a cast so don't use ankle lock except for photography or once in a great great while when I have the urge to line dance at a venue and the dances are from way way back. I rarely have any ankle issues with current mocap dances.

I used to keep my body and head huds on all the time, but after realizing they were part of my texture thrashing issues I stopped keeping them attached except when actually using them. Having the new FS feature for favorite attachables makes it a snap to grab them quickly when needed. I love that new feature.  It also frees up two spots for me to use should I ever need them.

  2. I confess I've not done any of the Linden Realm games in years, but Patch made me wonder. So I took a trip.

Sure seems like the little guy Patch is kinda pointing at in his Flickr pic is the same guy on this mug.

I guess tomorrow I will go gaming to see what I can discover.

Well, say you were at the grocery store and a guy twice your size deliberately knocked you to the ground to get the last head of lettuce. That wouldn't be repeated, but I'd call it bullying.

I would call it assault and call the police, but no that would NOT be bullying.

It doesn't have to be repeated to be considered bullying though, according to dictionary definitions of the word.

In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include:

    • An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power—such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity—to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.
    • Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once.
Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. source here

In our extensive staff trainings on dealing with bullying in the school setting.. repetition was always a key factor in determining if a case was actually bullying or not.

    Can you give specifics?

** I tend to believe that 'bullying' is more visible now, more recognized for what it actually is, and not as acceptable.... not that it necessarily encompasses more.

I only retired from teaching a couple of years ago. I was constantly having to deal with students and parents alike reporting students as being bullies. In very few instances was it really a case of bullying. In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include an imbalance of power and repetition. Many of the behaviors people label as bullying these days doesn't meet that criteria. I'm not saying bullying doesn't occur, quite the contrary. But we also should be very careful to not use the word indiscriminately or we lessen the impact when the term should actually be used.

So perhaps my saying encompass was not the right way to say it. Perhaps I should have said people use it to encompass behaviors that are not truly bullying.

Stop supporting bullies, call them out on it, don't ignore it, don't defend it - make the world a better place.

The problem is not everyone agrees on what constitutes bullying. What I consider bullying for someone else might be a totally different thing. I know the word has come to encompass far more today than it did a couple of decades ago.

If redeliver was a universal option, could that be used / abused for no-copy items?

I never had any issue with E2V delivering a no-copy item, but then again, I don't sell no-copy items. Selling no-copy items IMO, other than gachas or for gifting when a person prefers to hand deliver said gift, is backward thinking in this day and age of Second Life.  But in any case, permissions are listed in the MP so I don't see why it would be an issue to have redelivery turned off for no-copy.

I once spent 10L to upload a screenshot to show a store owner how the hunt item was broken... if it's worth to you the 10L why not do it?

Gyazo, one among many image capture aps,  has a free version available. It's a much better way of showing pictorial evidence.

  8. In the Sansar store, you can have your store purchases redelivered at any time directly from your purchased listings. I am hoping that Linden Lab will make that service available for the Second Life Marketplace as well.

Recently I had to switch vendor systems. I was using E2V which had the marketplace connection so MP purchases were able to be redelivered through the terminal at my in-world shop. I now use Capservend which also has that feature.

My intention was not to make you sound like anything, d**k or otherwise. Perhaps I read into your comment what you didn't intend. It appeared as though you were saying that our turning to mesh was to get hyper realism and that it is causing the performance issues. My belief is that wasting resources has always been an issue in SL and it's not new to mesh. I also believe that mesh can actually be much less of a hog if one is careful in how one builds the look of one's avatar.

  10. I don't buy no copy at all unless it's a non-rare gacha I get off the MP at less than pull price.  In the rare occasions that I wanted a rare gacha, I made sure that the creator would swap out the no copy for a copy version before playing to get said rare.

Back in the day it was hard to get furniture and garden items that were copy so I had no copy items of those types of things. Actually those items have been deleted from my inventory either by accident or more likely on purpose and replaced with copy items of similar use, because it's just not worth the headache or storage room to keep no copy items in my inventory.

About the only thing I will buy that's not mod is clothing, though I do prefer mod clothing. I won't buy no-mod hair at all unless the hair maker includes a way to tint the hair by using a hud, but I have to be in love with the hair to buy it as I like having the ability to turn on alpha masking on hair strands when necessary to stop alpha glitching with hair base or clothing.

No copy/no mod furniture .. I laugh and keep walking.

just like every thing about and in second life , not only the content of the word is created by the users but also the culture including visual Identity

when it comes to the quality of avatars   until 2 months ago i used to have an basic SL avi with mesh outfits and attachments and only recently i replaced every thing with the recent avatar upgrades which cost me over 10k , popularity grew in this past week to a ridicules amount , even my products which i only wear and share in world have gotten more attention in this past week , more so then the usual i would get in months

i dont know if to call it a good thing or a bad thing but people seem to have OOONNNEEE issue with it all which is also mine , people want HYPER realistic visual and pay no mind to function which makes anything you buy dynamic
MORE SO when it comes to OPTIMIZATIONS ,such high detailed modules need more and more PC power to render and handle and NO ONE SEEM to care for optimization ,aREALLLYYY powerful avatar that NO ONE can see or lose frame rates with you just standing in the view sucks , making it impossible to do anything else with you around , that kills any form of activity in SL aside from socializing thus SL started to seem only as a Dating sim when infact its not , good avatars are needed yes but you have to keep in mind that SL is a World , ts culture and use depends highly on its technical limitations and that of the user's And the creators leading the user's interest , this may seem like its off topic but think about it , is it ?do we all have to buy super ultra powerful PCs and have ULTRA powerful internet services just to enjoy basic aspects of SL ? or sould we have some one administrate the growing ate of AVATAR details which only seem to work in the Adult market of SL while killing optimization rendering all other activities almost impossible to enjoy ?   that is the real question

You can just as easily be a resource hog in system body/clothing/attachments as you can in a mesh body/clothing/attachments. It's just a matter of accepting your responsibility to make SL enjoyable not only for yourself but those around you, and then choosing how you spend your resources carefully. I can be totally in mesh and still be low impact, but I am careful to watch my complexity. There are those who argue that those complexity numbers in regards to rigged mesh don't mean anything as the numbers are borked, and that may well be the case, but I can still try to stay as low as possible by watching those numbers. I do hope that those numbers will become more reliable soon.

For a European it's 8pm at night. Quite a civilised hour. For me, it's 4am. Sure I guess I could wake at 3:30am and start my PC and strap on the goggles.

Watch out for the old and chubby looking avatar with the green hair who yawns a lot guys \o/ Just be patient as I am not really that good at moving.

Ahhh .. I was thinking you were in Europe too. My mistake. I am up quite often at 4 am myself, but I admit it's not everyone's cup of tea. :)

Stupid me!! I was referring to the second pic and not the one the OP originally posted. I need to drink more coffee before posting when I wake up. Yes, the OP's original pic definitely looks as though it is from a 3d render program and not inside SL. My apologies.

  15. I'm going to preface this with I could be way off track, but here goes.

I think a lot of the anti-mesh statements come from those who don't like mesh wanting those of us who do love mesh to admit that system is as good as or better than using mesh. I just can't do that. I wouldn't have switched to mesh if I thought that was the case. Do I think they should change because I like mesh better? Well, I do think they'd have better looking avatars if they did, but I in no way would tell them to change or tell them that they don't look good. It's a matter of choice. Everyone of us who have switched to mesh are basically a walking testament to the fact that we think mesh looks better than system. That's why I think they are so defensive.

Again, this is only my perception of the issue.

How many of you have wondered if you'll be declared nuts in your dotage, as you commingle RL and SL memories, or simply look at the world in an odd way? Mom's never been in SL, but we're now experiencing the edges of that very scenario. She recently had a stroke, and has been a McMasters for nearly 70 years. That's turning out to be a slightly problematic mix. She's fine physically, but has significant cognition and memory loss. If it were not for my presence at her therapy sessions, I think things would be going poorly right now. Let me give you some examples...

The therapist places five picture cards on the table: a bird, a pig, a cat, a cow and a zebra.
Therapist: "What do all of these pictures have in common?"
Mom, tapping on the first two pictures: "Well, these two fly."
Therapist: "No, look at them again."
Mom, ignoring the therapist and tapping all of the photographs: "I wouldn't eat any of them."
Therapist: "Let's try again. What is the same about all of these photographs?"
    Mom: "They're all faded."
Therapist: "Again, what kind of thing to you see in each of these pictures?"
Me: "Mom, do those pictures show vegetables?"
Mom: "No, animals . I know that"

    Therapist: "Lets do synonyms."
    Mom: "Okay, yes."
    Therapist: "Silly"
    Mom looks directly at me.
Therapist, thinking Mom's looking to me for the answer, not as the answer: "I want you to answer this yourself."
Mom: "Okay, yes. Didn't I?" (She didn't realize she hadn't actually said anything to the therapist).
    ...
Therapist: "Okay, now let's do antonyms."
    Mom: "Synonyms".
Therapist: "No, we're going to do antonyms now."
    Mom: "Yes, synonyms."
Me: "Synonym is the antonym of antonym".
Therapist: "That's not the word I'm looking for."
    Me: "Stop looking."
Therapist: "Okay, let's try another word... Silly."
Mom, looking directly at me with a frown on her face."
    Me: "Angry?"
    Mom: "Yes, yes!."
Therapist: "I want YOU to think of a word."
    Me: "Let's try another word."

I can't blame the therapist, as Mom's demeanor doesn't suggest she's anything but confused. While she clearly has great difficulty pulling up the right words and expressing herself, it's clear to me that she's operating at a different level than they think. I'm so glad I'm able to attend therapy with her, to redirect the misunderstandings, and enjoy her inner goofball. But, I come away from this feeling slightly less amused by my own potential to be misunderstood in my waning years, as a result of being contrarian my entire life. My wish for all of you is that you're always surrounded by people who'll recognize the real you, and smile.

I think your mom needs a new therapist who's actually listening to your mom rather than wanting her to come up with what he's thinking.

As for mixing RL and SL in conversation and not being clear where one starts and the other ends .. that's a good one. I do that now and my cognitive abilities are fine, or I guess they are! But I'm also one of those who believes there's no way your RL and SL don't mingle. For me there's no way to keep them separate.

Well that ad is a render from a 3d modeling program. So you’re never going to look exactly like that in-world. That’s because it’s taken from a different program. A lot of creators are using 3d renders for their ads these days.

General rule of thumb: If it looks like something you’ve never seen in SL, it’s not from SL.

Looking closely at the background and the accessories worn, I think that is an in-world photo.

  19. I think that body is far from average. I think it's very attractive. In fact, I'd rather be on the arm of a guy with that body than someone who is all ripped, but then I've never found the muscleman build attractive in the least.
