  1. ah , so basically baked textures is an improper use of the word? so far as I know backing textures is the process of transferring details from one model to another. The baking tool starts a certain distance out from the model.

  2. Hello , sorry if I ask or if this might be already answered, but , what's the status of animated mesh , ? are they available yet? Where can I read about ?

Nothing is confirmed. Put in a Jira ticket and wait.

Full regions currently get one CPU core each. Since a 4096 region is equivalent to 256 current regions, that's 256 cores and likely at least a couple servers to run the thing. They'd have to work out how to transfer information between the parts that each core handles (like a region crossing?). As for the cost ... say LL drops the monthly cost of a full region to $200. That would make a 4096 region cost $51,200 per month. Maybe they'd discount it to only $50,000 per month. It has to be expensive, or a big-time landlord could buy a couple of 4096s, spend a year or two setting them up, rent them out cheap, and put LL out of the mainland business. LL isn't going to do anything that hurts their profit.

No I disagree, Shoulnd not be expensive at all and keep the same price of a sim otherwise defeats the purpose of having larger sim , when you could get several sims together. The problem is right that , too expensive and too small piece of land. SL needs to renovate on that level or it will lag behind most of the modern technology for games around!

Also it incentivaters people to create more nice landscape for free , which helps the game to prosper, if you have instead pay rent to maintain a sim it just makes the place ugly and worst!

All land in SL is based on 256x256 and has been since the beginning. There's got to be lots of stuff hidden in the code that would break if it was changed. If you really want it, put in a Jira ticket asking for it. A bigger region would be more expensive though.

While you're waiting, wander over to Sansar and pick up an experience. They're free and 4096 meters by 4096 meters. That's 256 SL regions. Peaceful there too.

Sansar is nothing like SL and its very narrow focused . I wonder why not apply the technology of Sansar to SL and turn the 256 m islands into 4096 ones, that would be good .

Would you like some HARD CHEESE with your whine?

Second Wave Lastnamer Entitlement Syndrome ridea again...

You whine about how they tax you on MP sales... If they abolished MP sales tax, would your 100 L$ products suddenly cost only 95 L$ or would you simply keep the 5 L$ for your self?

Yeah you'd keep it for your self...

You whine about how they make you pay Lindex transaction charges JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE who sells or BUYS linden on the exchange, and your business would be pretty well screwed if nobody bought linden, right? If they abolished YOUR Lindex fees would you reduce prices or keep it all for your self?

Yeah you'd keep it for your self...

You whine about cashout fees, but if they abolished those, would you pass the savings along to your customers to boost sales, or just keep it all for your self?

Yeah you'd keep it all for your self...

    I'm sensing a pattern here...

You whine about paying for land for your store, but in order to lower Tier/Rents, they HAVE to replace the lost income somehow, and that means charging it elsewhere.

So, you want cheaper land for your store, but you don't want sales tax on goods, lindex fees or cashout fees. So where DO you think they should get the money to keep the Grid running?

    Can I guess?

Maybe you feel SL should charge shoppers a special "Visiting the inworld Stores of Whiny 2nd Wave Merchants" Tax, or perhaps a special "Not having Naiman's stuff in your inventory" Tax, or a "Not being Eurotalian" Tax, or a "Having a last name that is Resident" Tax...

You seem to think EVERYONE should pay EXCEPT YOU, because you are SPECIAL.

All of your recent threads have been "Whine Whine LL are STEALING mah FREE MONEY what I am Entitled to for being online"

No... LL are NOT going to abolish all "SL Taxes" on people called "Naiman Broome" just because some "Merchants" complain.

Have some parmesan to go with that whine. Cheaper land is supposed to mean MORE people with a need to buy your "build a beach" kits.

Excuse me but I think  you could express yourself in a less arrogant and trolling attitude , as I do not really recognize in your description nor I did say or write the things you affirm neither I have insulted you or attacked you in any way.

They would have more money by spending less on land costs, true....but would they necessarily spend more on content? Perhaps they would just save the money or spend it in RL.

LL has framed the debate here or created the format for us to think about the problem (that lower land costs translates into more money spent on content, and that the only solution they have to increase their own revenue to charge land owners less and content creators more). They even blame the supposedly needed change on us, saying we were always complaining that land costs too much.

It's always unwise to let others frame a debate (especially those with more power or the greatest chance to benefit from perceiving the issues on their terms) -- not because they are necessarily some evil corporation, but because everyone tends to lack empathy for the other side, and so with the greater power/influence they slant the debate their way.

Well I upkeep a public park for everyone to see and visit for free , yet it has costs !

to make the long story short: LL CAN charge, and WILL charge us, whatever they want. Nothing anybody of us can do about it, other than suck it up. Or leave. Eventually all of us making a sole RL living here in SL will need to consider returning to other, RL means to earn money. Everything comes to an end, it's been 10 Golden years (for me) here, i have made peace with the fact that it couldn't have lasted forever. It was too good to be true to begin with, yet it lasted 10 wonderful years. I thank LL from the bottom of my heart for providing me this amazing chance.

Personally I will  stay until i hit a certain low monthly number. Then i will wait another few months for it to get better. When it doesn't i will call it quits. The question is not IF it will happen but WHEN it will happen. I just hope there are still a few years left for me here...

I feel it, once it will not be worth to stay LL will loose all its talented creators and remain with a lot of fees to be charged on other residents.

If you're considering your business as starting at in-world sales and in-world credit rather than starting when your activity is finally converted into real-world currency, are you:

    1) Reporting the total of in-world "sales" on your taxes?

    And

    2) Collecting and keeping track of the VAT for all of your "customers" in various countries? (Oh, and now you'll have to keep track of sales taxes for most states in the United States too.)

I pay also VAT of 25% for land rental .

you don't like it doesn't mean it's abusive ( and seems to be your main subject to talk about fees)
they'r likely going to raise it even more  to compensate for the loss/lower income they make on the lowered land tiers.
From a landbased economy we seem to go to a consumers tax system.. brace yourself for more to come.

YEs I have actually been totally hit by that change couse I am an EU Citizen and I get even another huge fee by paypal 3.5 % on changes ...

    SO you get

    1 fees from merchant sale

    2 fees on lindens exchange

    3 fees on retiring usd

    4 paypal conversion fees,

so if for example I had 250000 ll of sales ,

    1 are 1000 usd

2 become 965 usd after second fees

    3 become 940 usd 2.5% withdrawal fee

4 become 907  usd 3.5% Paypal conversion fee

total loss of 93 usd .

  10. I am mostly an environment creator entusiast, I like challenges and I create only what I am inspired for and I like to do ...

I really love nature and I mostly focused on tropilcal realistic environments, as you can see by checking my tropical island of Las Islas and Las arenas.

But I was wondering also to explore new horizons ... in particular buildings , I am not much into the house making but more into environment mood , like a whole sim theme or the like , this could range from a Roman Villa to a Spanish colonial house, to a zen garden , a postatomic zone , a ruins site, an archeological wonder and so on ...

So I just wanted to explore some ideas I might use in future if anyone is interested.

Consider that when I create I only aim fo top quality and ultrarealistic solutions .

Eventually it could be also a whole themed sim built that I would then split into parts and make it available afterward for purchase .

  11. I am long time here in SL but since the last fee adoption when withdrawing money that changed from a cost fix of about 5 to 15 usd to a 2.5% unlimited on the whole sum...

I am wondering, why LL takes three times the fees?

First they take when you sell a product on market for example ( ok this might pay for the market costs )

Then They take when you convert LL to USD ( ok this might pay for the other costs and its a % of the total )

Then They take when you withdraw USD . ( another % of the total )

I guess with the first and second they are paying services ( like if rents were not enough )

with the third? This for some reason I really can't stand and feel like an abuse on creators.

So any chance that they will remove that abusive tertiary tax ? Eventually under merchant request?

Every payment method comes with costs, those costs include setting it up, training persons to do the support for it, paying those persons to hang around, fees ... if the business folks decide the cost are worth the expected bonus in income they will add it - if not they won't bother.

Its just a button on a website for the most, there is no training needed and all  rest is automated, its an easy system just like paypal , but with a 0 % conversion cost instead of 3.5% of Paypal.

  13. 16 hours ago, Alwin Alcott said:

LL uses only two way methods at the moment. Even Credit Cards are tested for this, and when it fails or takes to long, the CC gets declined.
A slow reveiving payment is, as understandable, not acceptable for the LindeX transactions.

Also, why add a new method if you have the largest possible coverage in the world with paypal and skrill. This new one would only be a doubling, it adds no new areas.
And often forgotten... costs... including the ones that Fiona already mentioned, people forget companies aren't free to use those services and pay higher fees than simple users as most SL residents.

Because I am not referring for PAyment but for withdrawal metods ... Some of us are not from US and have to pay a lot in terms of Conversion to Paypal like 3.5% or more , with that system instead money would be simply transfered by LL to bank accounts like with Paypal in a quick way , and LL wouln't care if it takes 3 days to reach us as this method would be only used for sending money out.

i see quite some reviews online that state payments can take a few days to complete, LL is never going to accept that for L$ and other instant fees i think.

I can imagine premium subscriptions and landfees are a bit less urgent to be performded instantly. But not very likely they'r interested for implimentation of such different sources to get their money.

I don't understand what's the issue behind it? Even LL takes some days to complete a withdrawal .  ALso I am referring to withdrawals not to payments.
