  1. Is it possible to connect to SL using a 4G data network?
  2. Not sure if Phoenix has any special abilities, but you can always join any groups they belong to and see if they are online in the group.
  3. I'm having problems posting a response to you in the Answers forum so I'm sending this via PM. I have had similar problems with my MacBook Pro logging into SL, it usually took 3 attempts and sometimes timed out. I often crashed while after running SL. When using Phoenix Firestorm I often got logged out with a "mangled network connection" message. Are you using Wireless to connect to SL? Linden Labs recommends against it but I use it all the time. Turns out my Airport Wireless connection was part of the problem. Once I switched over to using my AT&T Modem Wireless connection most of my connection problems went away. Log ons were quick and effortless compared to when I was on Airport. A couple of days ago I got the "mangled network connection" message again, and when I checked, sure enough my laptop had signed onto the Airport wireless network again. I'm not sure what triggers it looking for that, but I just found it had done so again. So I'm unplugging the Aiport for now and may not plug it back in if I can't find the problem. Check your internet connection. There is good advice on doing that here: http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ and here: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_speedtest Note that this later site says: << Based on our experience, we strongly recommend the following maximum settings for bandwidth - unless the calculations above suggest lower values: • Any type of wireless connection, including home wireless: 500 • Hardwired DSL: 1000 • Hardwired cable or better: 1500. >>
  4. I thought I had solved the problems described in these two posts: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Creation/Default-texture-is-black/qaq-p/1560387 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Creation/100-transparancy-shows-up-as-moire-pattern-on-prims/qaq-p/1560371 But after after relogging the moire patterns and black blank default textures are back in the Firestorm Viewer, but not in the Phoenix viewer. I guess I will check again for graphics driver updates. UPDATE: After relogging the moire patterns are back in the Firestorm Viewer. I guess I will check again for graphics driver updates.
  5. Whenever I use any of the newer SL viewers or Phoenix Firestorm all objects that had a blank texture now show up as black. This makes it impossible to tell a pink poseball from a blue poseball. If I change the texture to plywood or something light in color then the colors show up, but otherwise they are all black. The problem appears to be that in the SL Texture editor the default "blank" texture is now black, where it used to be white. Is there some way to change this default "blank" texture setting? See the image below. This is on both objects that I have created as well as objects other people have created. I have cleared cache several times with no improvement. I don't have this problem when I use an older viewer like SL V1.23 but do have it SL V3.0.3 and V3.3. SOLUTION: Thank you all for your help. I fixed the problem by doing a clean install as was recommended by Contributer below. I tried to upgrade my graphics drivers a couple of months ago but the Apple device said I was already using the newest drivers. Fortunatly the clean install fixed the problem. I removed every scrap of old SL, Phoenix and Firestorm applications and files, except for chat files and reinstalled a new copy of Firestorm. Everything looks great now. This fixed the Moire pattern problem as well as the black blank texture. Thanks again! UPDATE: After relogging, the black blank default texture and moire patterns are back in Firestorm but not in Phoenix. I guess I'll go check again for graphics drier updates.
  6. Whenever I use any of the newer SL viewers or Phoenix Firestorm all of the 100% transparent textures show up with a white moire pattern where they used to be completly transparent. This is on both objects that I have created as well as objects other people have created. I have cleared cache several times with no improvement. I don't have this problem when I use an older viewer like SL V1.23 but do have it SL V3.0.3 and V3.3. I searched the Knowledge base for this and did not find anything. Here is photo illustrating what I am seeing. The animated monkey I made walks around in a circle by this moving disk below it. It used to be 100% transparent, but now shows up with this wierd pattern on it. Thank you Nyll and Innula, I fixed the problem by doing a clean install as was recommended in this other thread http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Creation/Default-texture-is-black/qaq-p/1560387 I tried to upgrade my graphics drivers a couple of months ago but the Apple device said I was already using the newest drivers. Fortunatly the clean install fixed the problem. I removed every scrap of old SL, Phoenix and Firestorm applications and files, except for chat files and reinstalled a new copy of Firestorm. Everything looks great now. UPDATE: After relogging the moire patterns are back in the Firestorm Viewer but not in Phoenix. I guess I will check again for graphics driver updates.
  7. Most business operators in SL are honest and will try to make sure you get your product as soon as they become aware of the problem. There are however a few scammers operating that promise to sell you goods and never deliver. I became aware of one who set up vendors which were supposed to be selling subscriptions to porn sites, they took the buyers money, several thousand lindens, but deliverd nothing to them but a note card describing the product they were supposed to get. I became aware of this because the scammer was distributing a notecard that he had obtained from one of my products, so it showed me as the creator. I had to take the unhappy customer to the location where he made the purchase to show him that the vendor he paid money into was owned by someone else. Someone who never responded to IM's, notecards or emails, he just took their money and ignored them. If you are dealing with someone who is not well known in SL and seems to have a questionable business, it would be best to make your purchases only through the SL marketplace. At least there you have some chance of getting help with the purchase and if nothing else you can leave a negative review on the product.
  8. I'm not clear on what you are asking here, so bear with me. You can build structures without knowing how to write scripts. Visit the Ivory Tower of Primatives and take the tutorials there to learn how to build with prims. Scripts in buildings are useful for making doors open and close, changing the tint or transparancey of windows, that sort of thing. There are lots of those kinds of scripts avaiable for free in SL. There are classes offered in SL on scripting. See the links below. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Scripting-object-behavior/ta-p/700139 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Scripting/bd-p/LSLScripting http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:LSL_Library
  9. Thank you for posting that link to my Last Will & Testament creation. It is free to all at that link at SLExchange at least until they start charging me for posting the free item. It is also available at my store in Shona and will remain so as long as I can afford to keep the store open.
