lol I just woke up but I said its happened and it has. Not to me though. However not everyone that owns a sim can aford to higher managers as a matter of fact there is a lot of sims being abandoned due to downsizing as things are getting tougher. However as I also pointed out things are going to get even more tougher. As the premium membership is going to be pushed at us as the only way to reach 18+ land and materials.

Owners and staff MUST accept some responsibility for their sim. Afterall, it is they who reap any reward, so it is they who must work to make it happen. There is only one problem with this. To properly monitor what goes on in your own sim you would have to be on the net and in secondlife a total of 24hrs a day 7 days a week. The only alternative would be to shut the sim or your land down to visitors when you are not present or to higher staff with land rites the only problem with highering staff with land rites is that they could very well sell or abandon your land. IE it's happened. Also another subject if you sign up for a new account right now you will find that they are pushing the premium accounts as a way to acess 18+ materials and land. I saw a post on it in the forums and signed up for yet another alt and was hit with it. So I fear there might be another annoucement pushing the premium membership as the only way to allow adults to reach 18+ content.

oh and what about the built in love huds what about those they have all the furniture and poses you need in those right there almost every dirty little pose there is and Yes I've seen and flagged them being sold on general/pg sims before.

I took a field trip and found quite a bit that was to adult. a member(body part to be used for adult crud), pictures, poses in the furniture as well as cuddles in some intans here and there some very adult dances a stripper would use. Some furniture for sale and some BDSM materials which isn't appropiate for minors. The tour I took was from the destination guide so if you don't know what to look for you can't find it but those that does can find it and these kids are smart, sharp and will know what to look for.

Over on the other site I seen what kids could do, a lot of them have cool heads and talent but an equil amount of them are little horn dogs ready to break for anything they can get there hands on. I came over here to escape from that. Looks like General is the new teen grid though. Any adults with good head on their shoulders wouldn't go near the general areas after this. That would be asking for trouble.

I used to spend a better part of the day in world but its only dropped to late evenings of late or very early mornings. Why anyone would want to make SL almost identical to the Real world is beyond me it was fine the way it was. Part of my experiance is cut down by this because I'll be damned if I go to any pg areas or shop in any PG areas after this. Also for those that have PG land and use the controls so that only verrified accounts with payment info on file will be able to enter your land I'd switch it to mature land if I were you because if that one line up top is any indicator These Residents will not be able to enter Moderate- nor Adult-rated regions, even if they have payment information on file and/or have used our Web-based identity verification system. That idea to keep minors out just went out the window.

I transfered here from imvu I'm in a relationship with my real life spouse and stick to him only. Some call me a bit of a prude for that but oh well. I've seen all this before and don't like it one bit.

1. its only the 13-15 yr olds that will not be able to search or go to the market place however 16-17 yr olds will have full acess to search and the market place. 2. there are no content ratings and very loose content guidelines as its been anything goes till now. Creators can not rate their content there are no filters in place to keep adult content out of the PG areas as it is shown in world all you have to do is go to quite a few pg/general areas to know that. 3. without the filters and content ratings adult content can enter pg areas these 3 things ='s unsafe and not very teen friendly. This is a world created by adults for adults teens have no buisness being brought into a world that isn't really teen friendly. I say this is a parent and mother there is no way in hell I would let my teen in world it would make me a very irresponsible parent.

Adults built this world, love them or loathe them, it's an adult world, it's no place for teens and until Linden Lab realise this, we're in for a whole lot of angst. Adults built most of the internet too and yet teens are welcome there (with relevant controls in place to limit their access to adult material, as is now the case for SL). The sooner 'adults' stop seeing SL as somehow different from the rest of the internet, the sooner we can move forward constructively and be done with all the 'angst'. Thing is SL used to be a place for adults the teens had their own grid there are to few places that adults can go to on the net to socilize and hang out with adults. Teens are everywhere they have tons of places built just for them. When my husband and I came here we were told it was a place for adults built by adults. We do not sleep around and we love kids but this is a place we came to get away from kids and hang out with adults. It's the old classic bate and switch. We would of not even came here had we been told that teens were going to be let in. A lot of people wouldn't of come here and probably half the places in SL wouldn't even exist had we all been told that teens were going to be welcomed on the main grid. Thus adults built a world for adults not teens. The teens had their own teen grid and built a world they wanted. However they don't have the finances needed to support their own world so now they are welcomed into a world made for adults by adults which contains a lot of content that is highly unsuitable for Minors. There is no filters in place to keep this content from the Minors other then simple rules which hardly anyone follows.

Terrence is there any way for those of us that does not want to associate with minors, teens at all is there any way to add a feature to set our profiles to adult so as to exclude ourselves from any search the teens could make using the search tools.

You have no idea why they didn't merge the grids in the first place you already answered yourself. A lot of us would of never set down roots here as well as built up SL to be the place it is today had kids been here or had we been told kids were going to be here from the start.

I'd like to know how many parents in SL who have teens are happy to have them come into SL? I don't have kids myself, but I would be hesitant to have them in here unsupervised. I'm not worried about accidentally bedding one. I'm in a monogamous SL & RL relationship, so I'm not trolling for SL partners. But if someone does wish to play promiscuously in SL, why do so many people jump all over them for it? SL is for fantasy, which includes the fantasy to be safely promiscuous. Imo, LL is only bringing them onto the main grid because they'll spend more money here than they do on the teen grid. Pretty much the only other people who will be welcoming them with open arms are merchants and perverts who prefer teens. (And don't say we don't have them here, because there are plenty of kid avis that are not playing innocently.) My solution to the big can of worms LL is about to open on us, is to set up one of the already existing continents as a PG one, along with the teen continent that will be migrating to the main grid. Then the rest of us can feel safe from ethical & legal problems on our Moderate & Adult regions. I'm a parent and there is no way in Hell I would let my teen son who is 17 into Secondlife not even a 16 yr old or younger. Its just not safe and I would consider myself a very bad parent if I did allow my underage son into SL at any point. The excuse that oh they have seen it all before don't fly with me. I'm not so over protective that I'll cry foul if he goes somewhere he don't belong. I know to put the blame where it belongs. I watch and monitor my kids but not all parents do. Frankly at 17 My son is totally and complete girl crazy he only has one thing on his mind and that is what girl is doing what or whom and where can he get some. Hey hes honest with me about it too. Not all kids are honest about it (gotta give my son props for his honesty about what he wants). He'll join SL when he turns 18 and not a day before. Period. Even then I'll keep tabs on him.

yes I agree, as an ex imvu user they did the same thing there only to find teens were actually taking part in cyber text without adults knowing their true ages, there has to be a way of tagging these teens for the adult population so we know who is a teen and who is not etc. Yes as an ex imvu user we know whats going to happen For the time being I have no real worry I don't even go to mainland however I do not wish to engage any teen in any convo and as there are no tags to identify us or them I guess I'll just stick to who I know currently. I will never go into a pg area again nor will I go to the mainland ever again. I haven't since the very first annoucement. So whats next the forced casteration of all male avatars............

Let the finger pointing and acusations begin. Michael; What ever fetish ppl have on an 18+ grid is their business you don't have to agree with it but it is their right...well till the first of the year anyway. Then as I have said things will indeed change drastically. The idea of ppl segregating each other out and standing in judgement in what is suppose to be a Utopia frankly makes me very sad. There has been a lot of finger pointing going on there are people that want to santize the grid not for the kids sake but because they don't agree with it. This is not the Real World yet there are those that want to make it into an exact duplicate of the real world. Brush nasty, yet natural things under behind closed doors. There is already Segration if you think of it. PG areas are going to be for the Teens so yes it'll be clensed down to totally G content. Moderate areas will also be clensed to where you can't even have beds let alone adult animations in your own home. Then there is Zindra, Which will eventually get shut down (to protect the kids) because there is no content ratings and adult content will make it to PG areas and dirtyfy the rest of the grid for the so called hypricital saints that just wants to push things behind closed doors because that is how it is in the real world. Yes it is very sad and a lot of people will leave that does happen to love this world.

Actually having the marketplace accessable for teens well teens can sell to Everyone however adults need a way to sell teen friendly products thus the content ratings system. Also I might want to point out that those with copybot content if they place that content for sale in the marketplace then it would be easier for the original creators to locate it and dmca it.

To me when I looked at the map SL looked like Swis cheese. It shouldn't be that way which tells us yes They didn't think this merg through. I really want to know what rabbit they are gonna pull out of their arses on solving these issues.

There needs to be provisions in the market place for Teens like you. An area or sections that you can sell from.

Yeah, I actually use Maya, so I was thinking of learning about it anyway. It's going to be difficult and not very fun, but with some incredible results (which is what I'm used to)... But that's one thing to take up a week or so learning, when I'm still stuck on a few sims with nothing I can contribute to or draw from economically. ahhhh yes you know if they added a content ratings system and added it to the secondlife marketplace all that would be solved as people can sell on the web site. I wish they had a seperate area in the marketplace for you teens that way you wouldn't have to stop selling. I know from my experiance on other sites that the teens that are focused on creating come out with some very excellent clothing and builds equal to that of a very skilled adult. I may be against the merg but that is only because LL doesn't have the proper safety programs and filters in place to at least make it half ways safe for everyone. On other VR's a lot of my most general clothing and formals are made by Teens and are very high quality wise. Right now Ishy you have a chance to perfect your skills on everything and I'm willing to bet your work will get that much better.

Well, pertaining to the actual topic of this blog post, what I find most distressing is that I'll be able to be in, what, 3 sims? I probably won't even be able to sell my items, let alone purchase stuff. This is going to be a very dull 4 months for me SL-wise. It doesn't have to be a dull time for you. SL is getting ready to add mesh support. What that means for everyone is a different kind of content. You could take the 4 months and learn a bit about meshing. There is some great tutorials on Blender.org as well as Blender which is a free program. With the posibility of mesh being brought into SL take the time out to learn a bit about meshes.

I also want to add that Creators have no way to rate their content and there is no way to keep adult content from being rezzed in a PG area.

The PG and Mature sims should have been grouped together. With all of the obstacles the teens will have using the Main Grid in a legitimate way, I do not see the teens staying around for to long of a time. Or worse, increase the temptation to create an adult account. The only safe ways are to move all adult content to the proper areas or require the proper identity verification of all the residents. This is the problem right there, Adult content is in its proper place except for those that Does have adult content in the PG areas. Since LL is doing this I don't really think they would care if they did piss off the entire population of moderate, The solution is simple either set the entire mainland as PG and offer relocation alternatives to the Moderate users like they did with Zindra or set the entire mainland to Moderate and create a totally new area for PG and offer relocation to the owners of PG areas. It's not as simple as everyone thinks to bring teens to a world that was initally 18+, there is going to be a hell of a lot of problems for everyone.

Well LL's land which is mainland should of been PG from the start. Just about every place I've been to the company owned land is always PG. The reason for that is it looks bad on the company if it is not. Private land and islands off the mainland is the responsiblity of whoever rents or purchases it so they should be able to set their own ratings as well as have features to keep certain people off their land. For instance if they are PG and want to remain PG but don't want minors in on their land they should be able to remain PG and have a setting that will exclude minors from their land. Same on mature land if they want to allow private adult materials on their own land they should be able to. The mainstream are people actually like me. We stick to our other half in and out of SL. Zindra isn't a place for us and makes me slightly uncomfortable so If I had to move to zindra then I might as well find someplace other then here and I pretty much have backups where I can go. I'm in about 25 VR's right now anyway. I'm a creator so it pays off.

People wonder why I took down my shop in world and am in the process of putting it all on the new market place. It's because content is easier to apply ratings when its on the web page. I also make more sells that way too but its basicly forsight.
