On a related note, can anyone reccomend some nice wallpaper ? Maybe half panelling bellow and wallpaper above?

    why the difference?

Along with everybody else's informative responses, the answer to this little question is the same as anywhere else that offers buying or renting options: the difference is in the initial outlay of money (and the permissions required for doing what you want with the property).   You potentially pay a lot up front to buy a mainland property that has sufficient prim allowance for your needs, and then a little each month in tier (and enjoy doing largely as you please with your land, subject only to the rules of Second Life); or you pay a little up front to rent a property somewhere that has sufficient prim allowance for your needs and continue paying weekly or monthly rent (and are subject to your landlord's covenant rules about what you can do with your land)

Will Second Life be "improved" by making more lists of "interesting places constructed by LDPW"?

Will Second Life be improved?  Yes, absolutely.  Every project Feorie embarks upon does exactly that, I have come to understand.  Improved for the kinds of Residents that see the value in it and rely on the usefulness of it.  SL is used by so many for so many different reasons; one project doesn't have to touch every single Resident in order for it to be valuable.  But for those who find the work of value -- and especially for those who find actually doing of the work enjoyable -- the improvement is immediate.

    I'm impressed, Feorie, it's a great project ❤️

Virtue, do you have more info on that? I looked for more details on the number of request, but I couldn't find it. Thank you

Nope!  I was just going on the anecdotal information from Anthony McGregor who posted above me.

Also, Support notified me, that the maximum number of home requests in a 30 day period, is 3. I don’t remember seeing that in the T&Cs.

I hadn't heard anything like that but my response was rather than seeing it as a negative I was glad they'd put a cap on it; I know how many land requests generally Whitney has to take care of and having some kind of cap on it just made me glad for her sake lol

  6. Presumably if you're requesting a specific home with a PP account, it's a home you specifically want to live in.  So making more than 3 requests in a month seems excessive, in my opinion. I think it's a fair caveat to have; one must request the houses they actually want, and agree to alternatives that they actually want, because that's the whole point of the process -- getting the house that you want.   I'm glad they've put a cap on the number of requests in a month; poor Whitney otherwise ❤️

I am actually trying to navigate that - because ‘Adult’ is a huge part of SecondLife for sure. Any suggestions?

I’m thinking a Zindra station… with all the Adult stuff?

The benefit of that lovely Vulcyris Roundabout fountain is even though it happens to be on the adult continent it's not, in and of itself, pornographic and is something anybody can be proud to feature.  "Adult" means "Grownup" and "Refined" in this case, rather than "NSFW" or "Restricted to ages x and up"  which is -- in my opinion -- good advertising for Adulting in Second Life.

I think your project is very exciting and I hope you have great fun manifesting it :)

Please go back and re-read this post:

@Nika Talajaccurately describes how this will work.  We usually release homes in large batches.  When the house-o-matic starts giving them out, it starts in a few particular regions out of that batch.  You all typically figure out very quickly where that is happening.  The key here will be for folks interested in picking a home, or a few homes with their friends to look out and away from where the house-o-matic is currently serving up homes.   With some patience it'll work, it is going to be a manual process for now.  The LandOps team will also work with you to choose another when your ticket comes up if the initial home you chose becomes unavailable and will continue to try to help you find a home until it is resolved.  I see this as better than doing nothing, and we're trying to do something of value that you all have requested since the beginning.  I don't see this as a bad thing.

Patch explains the house-o-matic process here.

For what it's worth, I found the system to work exactly as advertised.

I have debated posting anything about this but I do want to acknowledge the great auctions that Linden Lab runs to support the  American Cancer Society.  In the past I have bid in many of them and won a few:  Add a last name (Blackwood), Name a region (Owls Flight) and, most recently, Win a Secluded Linden Home for six months (your choice of theme).  I won this last in the auctions held in June for SLB 19 and had my prize delivered to my alt yesterday.  Experienced Bellisserians will probably be able to tell where this is.  I love the LL ACS auctions and plan to bid on something at every chance I get!

I'm so happy for you, this is magnificent!  I have flown past to see what you've done with it so far, lurking unobtrusively........... it is **gorgeous**.   What a lovely place to spend some time!

I'm grateful indeed for the safe refuge of our virtual homes, to be able to surround ourselves with things we enjoy.  And your place has the added benefit of benefiting others, in the getting!  Just lovely indeed.

I do expect one other feature: larger scale "Linden Mansions". However big the Plus "bonus" tier, a section of Bellisseria available only to those with a Plus subscription and requiring all that tier will be an offer some residents won't be able to resist.

Thanks guys, there IS a neck size option in the legacy hud and it's fixed now. For future reference for anyone with a similar issue, it's here:

the little dots above are neck size options

I've been using my Legacy hud and body for over a year now and I can help you with future questions; I wish I'd seen your post half an hour ago.  Good for you for finding the dots :)

  13. It depends on who you are as a creator and whom you believe to be your target market.

For me personally, I used as logical and clean a method as possible, and this is how it would look in a person's inventory:

    :: brand :: mesh :: capri pants :: denim

    or

:: brand :: bom :: capri pants :: dusty rose

I was very concerned about how it would look in a person's inventory; the words as simple and crisp as possible, so that a person could inventory-search for it quickly without fuss.  And perhaps a person didn't remember my specific brand but really wanted to wear capri pants that day, so all they had to do was type 'capri pants' in the inventory search window and the pants would present themselves.

So in this method, there is no real secret or trick to naming the thing.  Four distinct identifiers (your store brand, whether it's Mesh or BOM, the article itself, and the specific differences), which means the article of clothing really just names itself.  (It doesn't have to be Mesh OR bom -- that's just this one example here)

I find that naming the release "Danielle" or "Auston" or "Ericka" or some rando is only meaningful if you're actually dedicating an outfit to someone special.  As if to say, "I made this blouse by special request from a special lady, and now I'll share it with all of you too."  Otherwise I'd personally never name my clothing human names.

That is so frilly, sweet, and girly that I may have gone into a diabetic shock.  I hate it, but every so often, I like to try decorating in a style that is very unlike me.  I'll buy it and see what I can do with it 😀

    Worth it :)

Edit: the couch is heavy but the chair is only 5 prim and really comfy.

It's when you look beyond the pixels to see what they represent that the value of SL appears and makes it a worthy investment as well. Whether it's friendship, community, education, artistic expression... whatever we get from SL and all those pixels is a worthy investment, too. Mental well-being, learning skills, all of those invisible things are as important as having good skin. Sometimes it's just harder to convince yourself of that, I think, and that could be where your feeling of guilt comes from. It's like if you don't have something solid to show for your money, you have wasted it... even if the "solid" things often wind up expired and in the trash.

    Nicely put, that's so true

2017 was quite a year for acquiring stuff, there's over a thousand items in that folder, and I've already put away hundreds of things. 2018 is another 2,000 plus items.

Inventory management is like dirty dishes.  There's always going to be more to do.  But right now my sink is clean and it feels good.

I LOVE "plunder" folders ❤️  Kindred spirit.  Cleaning the sink, as it were, right now meself.  Happy Sunday.

. In world, there's a cloud of dust and a construction fence if it's a building, a dressmaker's dummy covered with tan muslin if you're doing clothing, or a car chassis up on stands if you're doing a vehicle. That's what others see, work in progress. When you're done building locally, you save and upload, what you've done appears in world, and others see it. This makes creation a social activity.

This is so great :))))))))  "That's what others see, work in progress"

Hi, I have a good SL friend that has allowed me access to her Linden home and property.  She created a group and I became a member of that group, and I activate it so that I do not get ejected.

My problem is that she has a wonderful photo studio 3001m above her main home that is on land.  I would love to be able to use it for my Flickr pics and I have it landmarked.  But everytime I try and TP to it it sends me to her home on the ground and not to the platform studio 3001m in the air.

Am I doing something wrong, or does anyone know a fix for this?

Thank you in advance for your time in responding.

A likely cause of this is the friend has a landing point and teleport routing option selected in the options tab of the "about land" dialog box.  So in order to get to the place thousands of meters into the air, a possible fix is you'd have to fly there deliberately, and perhaps set your "home" position there so that you can get there whenever you like by just going "home."  You can get to ground level easily, it seems like, the way the land is set up.

Edit: it is possible that the friend considers everything that high up "private" and perhaps wishes you to stay at ground level (?) so it would require a conversation with the friend in that case.

I spend about 44 US on land and the same amount on shopping. If I didn't have land, I would spend only half on SL. I do not need land to live in SL.

Do you ever think about this? I know some people spend many hundreds, so I am not comparing myself to them.

Did you sometimes stop having land and use only a sandbox? Or rent some small skybox for 100 L a week? Could you enjoy SL as much after that?

I think I would miss the land.

My economy in RL is not in danger. I pay all my bills. I have saved up over 10 K in the bank, just in case something happens. I tell myself that when I don't waste money in RL, I can give myself this SL treat. An example: If I am out and get thirsty, I do not buy a latte or a bottle of water. If I did not bring water with me, I go thirsty until I am home and can drink tap water.

I feel stupid when I worry about the play money I spend on SL. I think I am in a depressive period and look for things I can blame myself for.

Depressive periods, in my experience, come and they go; and when they come, they do a lot of damage, and when they go they leave a lot of damage behind.  For what it's worth, if you can convince yourself not to make any major decisions while in a depressive period but just talk about them instead, it would lessen the damage. And also for what it's worth, I personally am EXTREMELY glad you are in SL with some land.  Your mesh tutorial changed my love of SL completely; and your photographs make me very happy ❤️  I have no idea who you are in the world but I am very happy about this little intersection where we've both been for an hour here and there throughout our lives.
