  1. What about one of the oldest, historical sims, say: Natoma by the Ivory Tower, or on Da Boom? A lot of residents have little knowledge of the origins of SL. edited for typo, and to remove underline.
  2. Maisie, IM me in world, and I will give you samples of clothes made like this, and the textures to do it. DrFran Babcock
  3. I am sorry if this is somewhere else in the forums, but I couldn't find it. Does anyone have a list of the the old mainlaind sims that allow terraforming up or down to 40 meters? Thanks so much forum readers. :-)
  4. Hello, Try asking Panacea Luminous. She has many NY Themed sims, and has a coffee-shop that might just fit the bill. She is very open to machinima, etc.
  5. That's a good sounding tip, that I will surely try. Thanks so much.
  6. Sorry, if this has been asked before, I searched and did't find anything. I make educational machinima that I use at work to train employees. The staff love these videos, but I find that folks get distracted, at times, by the herky jerky movement of the avatars. This is not about frame rate, but abot the talk animations in SL. Does anyone know of a tool or something to improve this? I am willing to spend Lindens to improve this distraction. Thanks in advance. drfran
  7. I would blame it on dyslexia, but I don't have it. :matte-motes-agape:
  8. Hello all. I am working on a build for SL6B. I have been to the Second LIfe History Museum (wonderful), a few web sites, the Wikia, etc, and have these places as early places that still exist. The Man on Natoma The Moth Temple Ryan Linden's Statue Luskwood The Magellan Crash site If anyone has any other anthropological artifacts of which they are aware, I would love to hear about them. I have created a photo booth that rezzes out scenes in which you can pose. This will allow folks to quickly see what's out there. I also provide Landmarks and information. Thanks for reading this. DrFran
  9. D'oh yes, I am on OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
  10. Hello all. I will try to give you as much information as possible, so that maybe someone can figure out what is going on. Thanks. MY PROBLEM: I was having no problem with shadows, and was able to take some great pics, etc. http://drfranbabcock.wordpress.com/2011/07/30/judy-judy-judy/ For the last few weeks, maybe since the last viewer update, I am unable to invoke shadows. I can change all the settings in preferences, and shadows is checked, but I don't see any shadows any more. Any ideas? 11. OK. I am trying to figure this out: I own two MacBook Pros, the specs below are for the newer one, a generation old (not a long time in Apple standards :-)), since the last two Beta updates I am unable to log in on the new MBP no matter what I do. It gets about 90% through the process, then hangs and crashes. Over and over and over. I can log in on my older machine, but the graphics card doesn't support shadows and is not as pretty. I mean, I got a better computer for a better SL. I have tried various things: Cleared cache, lowered ALL settings, logged in on a sim I know is empty, updated all software on the Mac, etc. My alts can log in, so I thought it was something with my avatar, but my avatar can log in on my other MBP, the older one, and even with 1.23 on my ancient iMac. Thanks for any help or suggestions you can give me. I am getting to that point that many of the people on my friends list have gotten to, and I love SL. Specs for the computer upon which I cannot log in: Model Name:MacBook Pro Model Identifier:MacBookPro6,2 Processor Name:Intel Core i7 Processor Speed:2.66 GHz Number Of Processors:1 Total Number Of Cores:2 L2 Cache (per core):256 KB L3 Cache:4 MBn Memory:4 GB Processor Interconnect Speed:4.8 GT/s Boot ROM Version:MBP61.0057.B0C SMC Version (system):1.58f15 Serial Number (system):W8015494GD6 Hardware UUID:DB5D79EE-D538-56B5-BECA-AC72F96B3B92 With these grapics: Chipset Model:Intel HD Graphics Type:GPU Bus:Built-In VRAM (Total):288 MB Vendor:Intel (0x8086) Device ID:0x0046 Revision ID:0x0012gMux Version:1.9.21
  12. Thanks so much for your informed answer. Most of the time what I want is just the validation that the problem I am experiencing is a known problem. I love the new UI, but I get used to change quickly--a thing one must do to reside in Second Life. Here's hoping the crash on TP gets fixed soon. It is tiring.
  13. I concur and validate. I am crashtastic, and cannot tp or use SL as I like. This needs fixing quickly thanks.
  14. Hello all. I am not a great scripter, but I made a little rowboat, and I am using the Sea Turtle Boat script in it. I modded the script so that I can hold oars I made and I can row with a rowing animation I bought. The problem I am having is that the camera faces behind me, rather than the direction in whic hI am rowing (I sit backwards on the boat, as in a real rowboat) thus making it impossible to see where I am going. I need the camera to face me, sitting backwards, but pointed towards the bow of the boat. I have played with the parameters for the camera, to no avail. Can anyone help? Thanks so much.
  15. I am on a MacBook Pro with this card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: SInce the last two updates, I wait and wait, and the second the viewer loads it crashes, no message, no nothing. The strangest thing is that my older MacBook Pro has no trouble logging in. Any ideas? I need this laptop to work, because I use it for my machinima. I, too have cleared cache, lowered graphics settings, tried logging in different sims, etc. Thanks.
  16. Well, there seem to be less of them of late, but they are still there. I found a taxi trying to climb the hill next to Lakeville (on Drawbridge) for some time without success. It must have made it finally, as it is not there. I ARed it. My sim is an old-time south of France canal in the Languedoc. Taxis and ice cream trucks can stay on the road, but really! This Sunday, the great RacerX Gullwing will sponsor a Relay for Life Giant Snail Race on Sansara. Last time, on the Atoll Continent, there were many snail/vehicle collisions. I do NOT want to be cleaning up slime this week. :smileywink:
  17. I am loving this thread. I have spent time trying to figure out the timeline for the continent myself, and I am pleased that there are folks doing this. I love the antiquity of Lakeville, and the surrounding areas. There is some abandoned land nearby that's might just be available if anyone wants a nice neighbor with a bucolic sim. Keep up the good work.
  18. Quick, search for Cyclone in world and take your sweetie on a hair-raising ride on the old wooden monster of Coney Island on the SOHO New York sim. Did this the other night and the thrills were realistic and fun. A bit more humorous than romantic, but that's what I like. Riding the Cyclone
  19. This is the Lakeville sim on Sansara. It contains an eight lock canal modeled after the Canal du Midi in the south of France. There is a small village, a winery where you can stomp or pick grapes, a huge castle, lockhouses, and omg, the canal. The area is a recreation of the canal around Béziers, France. Come visit. There are no tip jars, no stores, nothing but peace and quiet, with two canal boats operating around the clock. A great place to ride and chat.
  20. OK, I am going to AR the vehicles every time they encroach on my land. I agree with many people. When I first saw them I was entranced, but that quickly changed to annoyance. Folks who stay in SL are willing to put up with many irritations. There are times when I have to log in three times before things work, but this is something about which I can do something. I will.
  21. Am I alone in disliking those cars that seem to be on the road all the time on Sansara, along with other continents with roads? I am on a sim along a road, and every few minutes an unmanned car, garbage truck, ice cream truck, van, Buick, etc,. etc. goes by and often heads off sideways onto the sim I rent. I have a bucolic, south of France setting, and this is disturbing to the effect we are trying to create. Surely, there are other people in SL who would appreciate seeing them banned. Allow only vehicles with residents driving them. I wonder how this was allowed to happen? Thanks for reading.
  22. Thanks so much. Just the thing for which I was looking.
  23. First, thanks for making this forum available. The answer to this question, for me, has to do with maturing in SL, and history. When I was a noob, I loved the idea of having my own island away from it all. As I have spent much more time and effort in this world, without ever losing my enthusiasm for and wonder at this virtual space, I have come to respect the scope and grandeur of the efforts to create a continent as the original Old World. While I scoffed at the lag and crowding of Sansara, I am now living here proudly. Much of the ick of the adfarms is gone (except for one just across from the sim I co-rent :-( ), and I find that lag is not an issue. I guess living here feels like being at the source. I explore a lot, and find new wonders every day. The sim I have co-created is lovely, bucolic, and without an expensive Air France ticket, allows me to get the feeling of living in the South of France. Come visit!
  24. I apologize if this has been asked. I was unable to find it by searching. I am on a Mac using Spapz ProX to film, and all of that works well. I would like to be able to remove/turn off the overhead green indication that I am speaking in voice. Is there a way to do that, without stopping the lip moving and animation that is a plus of using voice? Thanks for any help with this.
