The Theme is "Prometheus' Gift" The inspiration for this theme came from the love of fire that is common to all of us Burners. The sight of a spark inspires us, a raging bonfire enthralls us. So many myths, so many stories. Fire stolen by gods, mankind or animals. It gives, and yes, it takes, life. Ancient Greek and Roman mythology, Etruscan, Egyptian, Chinese and Indian, Native Peoples. In some stories, fire was a gift; in others a stolen power; in still others a side effect of the actions of gods and goddesses. This free one-weekend event will officially open with a walk-on by the Lamplighters at 10:00am SLT on June 29th, with camp builds remaining available for exploration during the following week (07/02 through 07/08). The Theme is "H2O = Water but H2+O –> Fire" What does this mean? It is in two parts. The first we all know, that H2O represents WATER. But...the second part is not a chemical formula; rather it is an attempt to describe the process of combustion that results in FIRE. Both utilize hydrogen and oxygen, but manifest in different ways. It’s not about groundhogs — it’s about the Moles of the Linden Department of Public Works! Initially honored in 2010 by Residents of Bay City, Mole Day is set aside to show appreciation for The Moles and their many contributions to Bay City and the rest of the Second Life® Grid. Normally held on the same day as Groundhog Day, this year’s annual Mole Day will again take place at the Bay City Fairgrounds (SLurl) February 3rd commencing at 11:00 a.m. SLT. The event will feature DJ GoSpeed Racer of KONA stream followed by Stratus Mactavish performing live at 12:00 p.m. SLT. “Moles” are members of The Linden Department of Public Works (LDPW). The LDPW is a program focused on improvements related to the experience of living on or visiting the Linden Mainland. The LDPW organizes teams of Resident builders, artists, and scripters (the Moles!) to create new content on Linden Lab’s behalf and to the benefit of all. These Residents have the last name “Mole.” Moles essentially build all of the grid’s infrastructure: the public roads and railways, items in our coastal waterways and protected lands, and even larger scale projects like the Linden Homes regions, premium content, and experiences, and much more. Hot Bay City Nights 2017 Bay City’s mid-century theme — and it’s large network of roads — is celebrated annually during its “Hot Bay City Nights” event. This Second Life® based event features vehicle makers who create virtual automobiles from the Bay City “theme era,” from 1940 to 1965. The event is held in the the Bay City Fairgrounds, in the North Channel region, from the 19-27th of August to present the best in vintage and retro vehicles. Each designer is hand-picked, and presents great road vehicles for use in Second Life. Additional events will provide plenty for all to do, including the crowning of 2017s Miss Bay City on the 27th, and a series of virtual car washes in support of Child’s Play Charity, an organization that provides toys and games for children in hospitals around the world. Octoburn is quickly approaching and for one final large fundraiser for the purchase of extra sims for our week-long flagship event, we will be holding a non-stop music weekend that will run straight from midnight SLT Friday, July 21 through noon Sunday July 23. Following Conception's "Take a Look Inside" event, the playa will be cleared, an awesome stage will be set up and we'll kick off the party with music fireworks. Other activities will be available such as bowling, games, art cars, etc. Help us celebrate the Ten Principles with fun, community, and of course lots of FIRE!
