  1. Perhaps I could agree with you if things actually broke, but they won't, they will just cost different. Also plenty of lag is created by unrestrained use of unmetered resources, like scripts, or attachments with 256 prims each.
  2. Please LL, come up with new 2011 era accounting systems for ALL things that use resources. (scripts, attachments, normal prims, sculpts, meshes) Then toss out the old idea that one metric (prims) can mean anything useful. To impliment: a) Have all objects created prior to a certain date use the old accounting (copies of old objects count as new objects) b) Or toss out ALL old accounting and simple give people a few months to expand or shrik their resource usage based on new accounting. PROS: A TON LESS LAG!! CONS: My old prim house will cost BLAH now instead of 10 prims. Boohoo.
  3. So eloquently put Ishtara Rothschild, thank you haha. Also yes I do believe that eventually SL will run on a phone, but not any time soon. Even if it meets the CPU requirements there is still memory, -GPU-, and connection speed. Also SL is much harder on computers than other games because content is usually built by people who don't know a lick about optimization. So even if your watered down Java viewer manages to get past the log in screen, good luck going anywhere other than an empty sim. Is SL that can't be enjoyed as SL really SL? Or is it just a quick 2 second, "Oh that's kinda nifty. Ok, ttyl!"
  4. In response to the original poster, it's because of LOD like the other guy said. Other games do it too. You said it's either load or don't load but that's not true. Have you ever heard of "mip maps"? Look it up. This is a common practice in game design to display lower rez textures on long distance objects. Also in the past websites did something similar. Ever heard of interlaced images? Look that up too. You have much reading to do. Also you would see the same behavior on a website. Try loading an HTML page with 15,000+ 1024x1024 images and tell me how fast that happens. Oh yeah, then see if you can zoom way out so all those textures display at the same time. Oh yeah ... then try walking around on the web page, add in physics, IMs, and dozens of other people walking around as well. Your inability to grasp reality is no excuse. Next! ...I'm not saying though that everything is perfect. LL could do many things better, but I see that their trying. When I first came to SL in 2006 things were much worse. But lets complain about actual issues hmm? Instead of barking at the proverbial mail man.
  5. The reason is because the smaller a mesh is the more triangles an avatar can bump into causing physics work. Also the smaller a mesh is than the more triangles would see if that mesh were copied to sim capacity and distributed evenly at ground level.
  6. Well thank god your tech level is extreme. Whatever would we do if you were a mere mortal of tech. 0.o
  7. You're not going to beable to run SL on a 2011 era phone. Maby in like 10 years you'll beable to but not now. Only way you'll have a non text viewer on a phone is if the rendering is done server side and streamed (like a video) to the phone.
  8. I play SL a lot, and sometimes I get all focused and upset about something anoying and forget about all the things that I love and keep me coming back. So I thought it would be a good idea to try and think of more things I like about SL than dislike! :matte-motes-big-grin: When I logged on the first time ever (many, many moons ago :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:) I was thrilled just to jump around from rooftop to rooftop like super man. Somewhere along the line that 'newness' was lost ... On other forums I've seen simple games like, "one word stories" or whatever, so lets do that! haha List 3 things you love about SL and 1 thing you can't stand! :matte-motes-evil:: LOVE: Roleplay, Freedom of expression, Meter fighting CAN'T STAND!: Avatar skins never loading (aka people being greyed out)
  9. There is a spray paint can I want to use. It requires you to enter mouselook and draw by holding down your left mouse button and draging your view around. In viewer two the view does not move, instead an icon apears telling you your unable to move whatever prim your looking at. Or if you look at the sky the icon lets you know that's not moveable. -__- This of course renders the spray can unuseable. How can I fix this???
  10. This has been happening on every version of viewer two. I've been trying to switch over from Phoenix but this is kind of a game ender for me. After going down to just one tattoo the problem seems to go away. Is there a solution? If not then is there a jiira? 11. Viewer: 2.7.1 It's really annoying! When I'm getting dressed or creating new looks I like to add multiple tattoo layers or multiple other layers. But with viewer 2 these layers refuse to stay clear. They go clear for like two seconds then go blurry again and never load. Rebaking doesn't help. Editing appearance doesn't help. Removing then readding layers doesn't help. Clearing cache manually doesn't help. My drivers are up to date. Secondlife is up to date. What is going on?! Please help! Edit: I'm using cable. Edit 2: I was having this problem with the previous viewer too. Also it never does become clear. I know it's normal for it to go blurry but it never clears up again. It only seems to do this with tattoos.
  12. The trees look blurry, plants, the ground, and a lot but not all of the textures on my prim house. They just look super blurry. Please help! (Notice wall on picture is blurry, some other things arn't)
  13. Would be nice to know what things like texture atlas, or texture audit, or framebuffer objects do.
  14. Doesn't that make it kind of a useless feature? I can't even figure out how it's useful at all - ever.
  15. My find box, profile box, and help box always load VERY slowly and 80% of the time fail to load completely. It has made these things almost completely unsuable for me in second life and it is HIGHLY frustrating. Please help!
