  1. Thanks to all the posters.  After reading this thread, I know infinitely more than I did about lashes, and I will be trying some out.

One thing to consider is that the number of tattoos that one can wear is quite limited, and it is easy to use up the capacity.

i know they get rated on search..which to me doesn't even make sense if they have to be general only LOL

Isn't it sick that our society thinks that there is something offensive about the appearance of the human body?

I presume that nudity in this context means showing genitals, anus, or female nipples.  Would a profile pic which was a frontal  view of me covering my nipples and genitalia with my hands be rated G?  If not why, not?  What if I got a skin with no nipples and no genitalia?  Would it be acceptable to use a frontal view of it without clothing as a profile pic?  If not, why not?  I would not be showing anything that is normally required to be covered.  Children are commonly allowed to play with nude dolls having the same lack of anatomic realism, and no one thinks anything about it.  What's the difference?

    Couldn't help asking!  /me grins

  3. Before I entered SL, I promised myself that I would never reveal my RL identity, or information that could reveal it.  I have escorted in SL.  It definitely would not be good for my RL career if that were known in RL.  I am sometimes tempted to violate my promise and reveal something to a trusted friend, but I don't.  Who knows, she just might be my RL boss.

Well, they could gradually add Premium perks and diminish the abilities of folks without payment info on file, but the hue and cry from the latter would be deafening.  I mean, if one had to have payment info on file in order to rez anything -- even an attachment -- a lot of folks would leave.  If the 6/6/6 free-account floodgate had never opened, almost all of those same people would have happily joined anyway, but now they're so steeped in entitlement that they'd sooner pay through the nose to play WoW than fork over a dime to Linden Lab.

I would not have joined SL if I had had to pay initially.  I had a free account for a year.  I just did not know enough about it to know if I would like it or not.  I think it is important to let people try it for free, and not limit them so much that they are unable to see the possibilities.  I do not think it would be wise to not let them rez anything, because if they couldn't rez anything, they really would not be able to experience SL properly.  However, limiting them to having some number, maybe a couple of dozen, objects rezzed simultaneously might work.  Also, limiting certain functionalities that are particularly useful for griefing for free avatars under a certain age might help a lot (I'm thinking of particles.).  Another possibility that occurs to me is to implement an algorithm that would inactivate new free accounts if they did not maintain a certain level of logon activity, making it harder for grievers to keep an inventory of accounts to use.  I'm sure that there are some other good ideas out there.  What is needed is to let new people try SL out for free and have a good enough experience to want to stay while making it harder for grievers.  Perhaps people could get a month or two free, with some limitations, and then either have more limitations imposed or have to start paying.  It would help if there were a cheaper paid account than there now is.  Perhaps there could be if it didn't get everything a premium account gets.  One real possibility would be to implement inventory limits.  If that's done, a timetable for a gradual reduction should be announced well ahead of time, something LL seems to have a hard time with.

Having said the above, I have known many wonderful people who were very creative and who contributed much to SL that were on free accounts that were years old.  LL should be very careful not to drive such people away.

This is exactly why a land owner should have the right to not only ban an avatar but all of its alts as well. Maybe some day this will be a feature that LL will figure out how to implement since they seem to love making it not only convenient but easy for ppl to create an alt in 5 minutes flat.

And how would you do that?  IP ban?  Then you would ban everyone at a hospital, or univrsity, or college, or condo because of the actions of one person that they could not identify.  And it would not be effective.  A careful griefer could logon from a different IP address.

  6. Irene, I don't see the connection.  I'm in the US, and used to pay with Paypal.  Then I changed to a credit card, and for at least a year was unable to change back to Paypal because, when I would try, I would get an error message.

Anyhow, I just wanted other people who had had the same problem to know that it might be resolved.

I agree.  However, I think that one thing that is wrong with clothes-buying in SL is that most of the time there is no opportunity to try things on before buying them.  I know there are exceptions like skins, shapes, and mesh items, which have demos.  It would be better if demos were customarily offered for clothing in general.

I've been thinking of trying to start a consumer movement to encourage venders to offer demos routinely by promoting ones who do to each other.  What do others think of the idea?

  8. I was unable to get Paypal to work as a payment method for a long time.  I tried every few months with the same result.  Today, I tried and it worked.  I know that some others had the same problem.  I'm posting this so others will know that it's fixed.

One might think LL would have made an announcement about this.

  9. I agree with you.  Resizer scrpts can be a convenience, but I will never buy another no-mod prim attachment again, for the reasons you state.

I'll also reiterate:  I wish creators would not make prims so small that it interferes with adjusting sizes.  It's never essential to make it 0,01 instead of 0.02 m.

No and why? When you buy your 6th Ford car should you get a reduced price for any more you purchase. Companies offer consumers choose. Rebates or reduction based on loyalty not going to happen.

Sometimes communities give tax breaks and other subsidies that are perceived as beneficial to the communities in ways that do not provide direct income to them, e.g., historic structures that the community considers it beneficial to preserve that cannot earn enough to do it without help.

Its LindenLabs own fault, that it is so easy for kids to lie about their age. As I joined, it was necessary to prove your age with a part of the passport, driving licence or anything equal to that to get age verified. Now you simply say yes and set some birthdate. This shows that LindenLab doesn't really care about it at all.

It was just a little harder for the kiddies to lie then.  First, I doubt there were many twelve-year-olds who couldn't surreptitiously access mom's or dad's info to age-verify.  Second, a lot of people used Elvis Presley's info, which was available on the Internet, to age-verify, and it worked fine.  The only way that I can think of that I can think of that LL  might actually effectively enforce age requirements is to require people to show their faces and an official photo id in a live video call.  That's not foolproof, as it would be easy for a child to get past if she could find an adult accomplice, which must be pretty easy judging by how easily they get alcohol.  It would be prohibitively expensive and would be offputting to a lot of legitamate adult customers.

you would think when dealing with international crowd let alone a a country where there is so much mixes of nations that there would be more than one language version..

For translating legal documents, you need high quality translation, which is quite expensive.  You also need to have it back-translated by a different translator, and then check to see if significant differences were introduced, which doubles the expense.  If they were, then you have to have it worked on some more, which is more expense.  To have a document like the TOS translated into a single language would cost thousands of US, not linden, dollars.  There is also less legal risk for LL if they don't provide translations.  There will always be some risk that the translated version does not mean exactly the same thing as the original English version.  If LL provides only an English version, the customer assumes all risk when signing it.  If LL provides a (mis)translated version, they are responsible for any legal consequences.

I had been interested in changing my default camera position to just on front of my face because I thought it might provide a more immersive experience.  Recently, a poster on these forums made me aware that I could make the default camera position whatever I like with the CameraOffsetRearView debug setting; I also found it necessary to adjust the CameraAngle setting.  I am still getting used to this, but I think I am going to like it.  It feels more like I am in the scene instead of watching it. If you aren't interested in working with the company, please just leave the thread. I can understand your concerns but at the end of the day, it looks like you're trying to slander us through our recruitment thread. Nothing else needs to be said on here, IM me if interested.

When you post in a public forum, anyone who wishes to can post to the thread.  He said nothing slanderous.

You sound like an arrogant jerk.  I certainly would not want to work for such a person, and I doubt that most desirable workers would.

  15. FWIW, when I replaced an 8800 GTX with a GTX 470, performance noticeably improved.

When I replaced a system that had a 3.2 GHz Core 2 Quad, 8GB of 800 MHz RAM, and a GTX 470 with one that had a second generation socket 2011 3.2 GHz Core i7, 32 GB of 2133 GHz RAM, and a GTX 580, SL performance dramatically improved.
