  1. good grief youre not asking for much are you??? All I want are a few new prim shapes and ways of cutting 'em....Why do I have a feeling your requests will lag SL to a degree where the warp engines of the USS Enterprise wont even get you moving......
  2. Everyone is arguing from a dealers point of view.. Well I dont sell anything in sl I pay to play...I pay to have fun and working at complex software out of world is simply not my idea of fun... What would be fun would be being able to do more with the inworld buildings system not to be told to go away and make some mathematical idea of what I want to build and then pay more on top of my tier to import my build hoping the end product looks like I want it to....
  3. Just like before and there in lies the crux of the problem ...no indication of any improvements in the existing in world system or expanding its scope... not even a mention of megaprims as standard....
  4. I'll put it very simply why I worry about meshes... because if they replace the inworld building system with mesh software and there are no linden reassurances that they wont... what do those of us who dont want to learn the complexities of a new building system do ??
  5. All I want are some reassurances from lindens that the 'dinosaurs' among us who actually like our building with 'primitives' and sticking our 'lego bricks' together in world aren't going to suddenly find our selves without two rocks to fit together when meshes are introduced what worries me is that Lindens - despite having seen that people are concerned they might be left without the materials to do 'the job' still - despite 'reassurances' from some who seem to think they are privvy to the great Linden masterplan - havent given any indication at all whats going to happen to inworld building.... they probably think all the technophiles are going to block the voices of the concerned and dissenting with all their talk of vertices and all that other high falutin' stuff...... surely Im not the only one wondering WHY lindens have yet to say what's going to be the future of the 'inworld' building system...
  6. By the way despite the all embracing air ' of its creator theres always been a class structure in SL ...I found it depended on how much money you have to spend..and its an observation borne out time and again looking through these pages and by talking to some denizens of sl... Its clear that meshes are encouraging a technocratic elite too...those who regard the rest as 'peasants' and reckon theres no place for 'the old' in sl. Not my imagination...read this forum.
  7. Got to love someone who revels in a major change that a minority will know how to use while bemoaning the fact that another major change sucks - as in fact have most major changes to sl in the past 12 months..... I wish I had that optimistic air which let me say some impending new change would be great while having seen how much how many people dislike another impending change to the system.. My definition of an optimist.. 'someone who jumps off a very high building and half way down is still shouting 'I'm not dead yet'
  8. I see Lindens -worryingly - still havent given any commitment to the inworld building system let alone innovating and improving a system EVERYONE knows how to use to build... I wish I could get away with selling highly price baseboards from lego sets and adding a note... 'please go and find your own equipment to vacuform some lego bricks...' because thats what I think LL are going to be doing ultimately... Those drooling over meshes simply havent got it.. you'll be paying a tier ( assuming you pay a tier ) to get a base to do your building on while Lindens quietly shift the onus to finding the building tools to you. Making SL more 'accessible' I dont think so... ..and while people may love the desktop 'einsteinian mathematics' of mesh creation and revel over vertices and lord knows what else - it's certainly not the same as building inworld where you can see if your build works in world , where you can move inside it instanteously and you dont have to pay any extra charges...I know that I consider the thought of kitting myself out to build under the sea on land or in 'space' is certainly more fun than my brief head scratching encounter with scultpies - and Ive always hated the fact that text such as signs has to be created outside sl.... I think we'll soon hear the howls though once people realise how much theyre going to have to pay on top of their tier....
  9. All very easy and im my spare time Im going to learn some quantum physics, a spot of brain surgery and how to become a concert pianist... Seriously though still nothing simple for those of us who like fixing our sl prim lego bricks together I see... and how I've read this it looks like a lot of inventory items are going to become outmoded to.... Meanwhile Im still crashing at regional boundaries. Keep banging the rocks together everyone.....
  10. every time Ive posted Ive argued your right to use mesh - you need to try reading my posts instead of attacking willy nilly .... I still believe theyre being intoduced at the detriment of those who use the inworld building system.... so far not a word from any linden on what the future of the inworld building system is.....
  11. Oh and dont patronise me.... I may not be the computer whizz you are but I still have a brain in my head...
  12. Funny I keep getting the feeling the mesh mob know whats best for us 'peasants' as we were described by one of your ilk earlier - and yes if people starting talking down to me as you are they'll get an equally short and snappy response...
  13. Great give me those features on the EXISTING building menu I WANT THEM I WANT THEM !!!! And why because I can play with those features theyre on menus I can understand I can see the results on prims in world as I use them and best of all I dont have to learn how to build outside sl and I can hold touch and see the results of these new building features immediately.../ oh and I dont have to pay any more to lindens to import the results....
  14. Youre wrong someone a few posts back was proclaiming the inworld building system to be a waste of resources... and what I want to see is innovation to the building system we have ...yes I want to build and yes I want to use the existing system - but I want to see that system is innovated upon and increased...we havent heard one word about any changes or improvements to a system everyone in sl can use... we cant even get megaprims introduced. Ive continually said I have no objection to your using your meshes but NOT at the expense of the in world building system.....and not at the expense of those among us who want to build using a system we know and that we can use in world.
  15. There's a difference between learning to use new features added to a building system I already understand and having to learn a completely new method of 'content creation' which i cant even do in world - a fact which the mesh-mob seem to keep forgetting. Lordy me I love the idea of having polygonal hardwood prims and triangles and the relevant displays to measure and shape them... What the techies among us are suggesting is akin to learning the whole history of electronics to get up and turn your tv on.....
  16. Unfortunately your idea of 'easier' doesnt tally with mine...However I agree that Lindens should be focussing their efforts on getting things running as smoothly as the system you describe and not importing new building systems on the say so of a few raised voices... And while the technocratic elite may not exist in sl I get the impression from an attitude of snotty, snobbish, look down your nose at the other peasants attitude rife in this forum I get the feeling that certain individuals would like to think it does.... Me I just want bigger and better lego bricks to glue together please and if someone can let me put text on them in world (rather than using even more software to import lettering) I may even manage to arrange them into a complete alphabet....
  17. Thanks for the explanation..of the three pics at the beginning the tyrannosaur was the only one that trully impressed me... Unfortunately it sounds that the techniques you describe require a great deal of mastery..far more so than simply banging a couple of prims together in world..I can see from others more expert than me are finding cracks in the system already. I suspect before lindens starts to run it needs to get on its feet and shift from crawling position..we havent even got megaprims as norm yet and I cna see the excuses from lindens for this are as vague as ever....
  18. Get it through your head..some of us want to build inworld...we want to STAND inside our builds as we make them...we want the tools to do that... and yes to put it bluntly I want to build without having to learn a mass of new software is it getting through to your brain yet ?? I dont want to stop your new mathematical concept of building you go away and spend all day plotting and mapping your meshes... me I want to go inworld and slot a few lego bricks together...as I suspect do umpteen more sl users... and I dont want you telling us what lindens should be using the resources that basically ordinary sl customers pay for... GOT IT !!!
  19. And if thats rude or blunt lets be grateful that the 'techno-heads ' havent got the same monopoly on those that some of them seem to want over sl resources, building techniques etc.
  20. Everyone said the Titanic was unsinkable...someone didnt tell the Iceberg unfortunately...and I think if Lindens put all their eggs in one basket theyre going to be sunk too.. I dont hate this mesh idea but I think Lindens should not just be catering for a technocratic elite who regard the rest of us as 'lazy peasants' because we want to enjoy our building in sl rather than it becoming a complex mathematical process divorced from inworld activity. 800 people using blender ... what about the thousands of us who use the inworld building system and who want to see that expanded on ? I have the feeling theres a fantatical group of people who want sl to become a 'technocratic paradise' and lets face it no one likes to 'lord it' over other people more than people with computer technical skills...you only need to read this forum to see this...
  21. Interesting someone with clear technical knowledge saying the plan's not going to work... Come on Lindens lets see some work on the inworld building system please
  22. Philip Linden was talking accessible - and yet to build you have the choice between sl's stagnating building system... or going and puzzling which one of the umpteen third party software packages - not all of them free and certainly not cheap - to use..why should lindens care as long as people keep paying the hefty tiers.... Screw those who want to see Lindens actually do something to give us an innovative building stystem you can use by virtue of the fact you know how to build in world....
  23. I dont want to learn 'computer science' to take part in what some people are describing as a game...
  24. ..and for all the self proclaimed 'experts' voicing their knowledge not one has been able to answer what I thought were a few 'simple' questions about the tyrannosaurus skeleton pictured at the beginning of the thread.....
  25. It seems to me that these 'meshes' are simply lindens bowing out of having to use technical people to work on any sort of inworld building Im increasingly getting the feeling its 'take the money and run time' and all those drooling over a seemingly endless range of third party softwares are simply encouraging Lindens to abandon responsibility for any sort of building system at all... certainly not one thats being progressed or innovated...
