  1. No IRB info, I suppose, as your uni is in the Netherlands?  IRB is crucial to me, before participating in anyone's 'research'.  And, I DO contact them for confirmation.  This kind of thing, feels like one of those spam emails asking for my info that I just delete without opening.   If you DO indeed have IRB info to provide, please do so.

Clicking the dot at the left of a thread's Title in the topics list pages causes the thread to load at the first unread post. The dot is replaced by a star when you have posted in the thread.

I like that one.  Hi Phil!

But I want to be able to block people from seeing it

I just went to look, Avery, and there's nothing to see on your profile, it's all blank, except for your prior posts on various of the forums.  Nothing personal about you, at all, no profile information at all, so just don't 'Enable' it and no one will see anything.

If you don't 'Enable' it, then there's nothing for anyone to see.  You can't see who visited your profile and neither can anyone else, unless you 'Enable' it.

9_9 Kinda late but kinda here :) and falling in love with emoticons if not in love with like button yet. Feel this style of forum might have knocked ten years off my (mental) age. ;)

I'm mad there's no heart!  Did I overlook a heart?  I'm excited to be back though, forgot how much I like y'all. :D

That is notifications and I cant see anything in it that stops people sending you private messages like the old forum used to

Well actually if you go to Messages (the envelope icon) and 'Inbox' and scroll to the bottom you can see 'Disable Messenger'.  I would guess that would stop people from sending you messages?

  7. Ooh, haha, stalker = who looks at your profile.  That's one of the 'notification alert' possibilities.  That's funny, I don't actually care.  Why do people care who's looking at their profile?  (yes, serious question......)  you don't actually have to put anything on your profile if you don't want anyone to see anything.

    You cant do very much

You cant change coluors or the order of the forums or posts

You cant chagne the size of things

You cant say that you dont want messages

I cant rememebr the other stuff that you could chose but there was lots

Click that little bell looking icon, at the very top of the page near your name.   that is 'Alerts'.  That's where you say you do or don't want messages, emails, alerts, whatever, or how you want them.

Smiling. On my very first look on the very first day the new SL Forum comes online who do I see kicking the doors open but you. I cannot tell you what a pleasure that was. It was nice to see right here in these two pages so many other names: Maureen, Pamela, Treasure, Perrie, Luga(I can't attempt the rest) and the ones I missed because I was in a rush. I like that the forum software grabbed a representative fragment of one of my old saved images to do my avatar badge.

I know I've been absent from the SL Forum, from inworld, and from the Feed (no excuse for that) but I will improve (I'm like wine in that regard I hope).

It's almost over but I'll wish you a lovely Pi Day anyway. It was absolutely lovely to see you, just as it always is.

Me, too.  What you said.  Going to do better, been absent for a bit, but still here.  Good to see everyone.

  10. Also have a join date of 2007, and this Forum date shows 2009......  not tripping tho, it's cool.  So looks like you can reply to the 'topic' but not to the person individually, I don't see a reply button on each post......  (yeah, I'm bright like that)  Ok!

  11. Hello; I got an IM from you in IM to email, a few days ago, just saying hello; I forgot about it and didn't respond.  Is that why you were saying hi, because I often share that I am black in RL?  *shrug*  Well I am, but it doesn't mean anything in SL, lol  There used to be a sim, looong time ago, that was owned and hosted by a group of black folks, black owned businesses and clubs and such but that's the only one I've ever known, and I think it's gone, no idea, and can't even remember the name.   I'll look through my inventory, and see if I can find anything from that sim, in the past and let you know if I do.  Cheers, enjoy your SL!   People often IM me when they learn I am deaf, less often because I am black, lol.

  12. Marybeth, yes, in communities of the 'truly disabled', that is, disabled in RL, 'devotees' are often a problem; people who want to either pretend to have a RL disability, or want to be around people who really DO have a RL disability, it can be either a psychological or sexual attraction, who knows why people want what they want.  I am deaf in RL, and i hear with the technology of cochlear implants, however, when I take off my external processors, I am completely deaf.  I once ran across a Yahoo group called 'Deaf Wannabees', consisting of hearing people, who either pretended to have a hearing loss, by wearing hearing aids or other assistive equipment, or actually trying to physically damage their hearing, so they WOULD require equipment.  To me, that's crazy time, but I realize these types of conditions exist, had to learn not to be judgmental.......... I'll avoid it like crazy if I know about it though.

As for verifying credentials, as you know, SL Bar Association will  indeed verify credentials if the attorney would like to do so, to be verified in SL.  Then they can be referred to someone who needs help, in that person's RL jurisdiction.  As for doctors and other RL professionals, seems impossible and also improbable to verify..........

  13. Visit Virtual Ability's Health Info Island; and our 'Path of Support' for a myriad of SL based support groups, for just about anything.  Although many SL residents are professionals in RL, in their various fields,  the fact is that most of us aren't licensed to practice whatever it is we do, everywhere in the world, and thats a valid concern when it comes to plying one's RL trade in SL.  Unless you're licensed to practice 'everywhere' you might want to rethink that, as most people you meet in SL are from somewhere else.   Jurisdictional issues abound......

Peer support is fine but unless you're ready to provide verifiable RL credentials, probably best not to hang out that shingle in SL......

  14. A bunch of the Linden Moles made the avatar.  I agree it does look very good.   Dr. Phil was in SL to discuss a young man with a gaming addiction.  The guy wasn't a SL resident, but SL was used as a platform, and of course, it was pointed out how SL can be helpful to those with disabilities, there's so much social interaction we can have here, that may be denied to us in the real world.  It may have been valuable, in the moment, never any way to know who's been moved, helped, touched..  Outside of some media exposure, that isn't negative exposure, who knows if there will be lasting effects of Dr. Phil's appearance.  I hope he had fun in SL.
