Conspiracy Theorist would say that this marketplace search mess is coming at the perfect timing so every seller is focused on it and forget to protest against the Buy/Sell Fee Change that wil cut even more their future incomes.

But we arent Conspiracy Theorists, right?

I'm not sure people even know what's going on... The Sellers who are not Buyers themselves (like myself), probably have no idea anything is broken at all (like i didn't). I did notice that in the past several months i've been selling lots more older stuff than i used to, and was wondering what's up with that. Like, almost as much stuff for classic SL ava as for mesh bodies. I ended up with a theory that maybe there is some new mesh body out there that i am not aware of that fits into old classic SL rig, or something... I would never have thought that it's Marketplace Search to blame, as i don't shop on Marketplace for myself...

And how many people do read SL official blogs really? Probably not so many... I'm not sure people even heard of the fees increase...

They have really messed up being able to find anything in search. No one can find what they want, then no one buys anything. Then no one, LL or content creators, make any money. And people are extra mad about it because while they managed to break marketplace search and destroy almost everyone's income, they announced they'll take a larger cut of selling and buying L$, which will discourage people from buying L$ and make it more expensive to cash out.

wow! 😲😱 if anything, they should be feeling VERY sorry for that fee increase, all the more so because it was completely unannounced like a slap in the face, and they should be wanting to revert the fees, at least until they fix the Marketplace!!! Otherwise this look very bad.

"transfer your L$ to a USD balance"

    Β

the only way i know of to do that is to sell L$ on Lindex. But then again, i've always been on basic acount, and i have no idea if any other ways exist for Premiums... To sell L$ on Lindex to get US$ you will now pay 5% fee (old fee was 3.5% i believe). Then, if you cash out those US$ to Paypal, you will pay another 5% fee.

So sell your models on Etsy then (or CGTrader, Gumroad, or whoever). πŸ˜„

Though Etsy do have a listing fee of $0.20 per item sold which is recurring if you want to auto-renew the listing, then 6.5% sales fee, and then a payment processing fee that varies by country. So for every single one of a model you sell (which I guess would go as a multi-quantity listing), you have the $0.20 flat fee PLUS the percentage, PLUS the payment processing fee. Per item.

And that's just for models. Good luck putting something that uses custom code or other more active items onto Etsy.

Though I do gotta wonder how many of the people screaming about marketplace fees have any idea how much of a percentage other online shops charge, or how much of a percentage exchanges charge to convert one currency to another.

Let's see: 10% fee on Marketplace, 5% fee to exchange L$ to USD, 5% fee to cashout to Paypal, 5% (i suspect it's more nowdays) to cashout from Paypal to local bank account. If LL were willing to cut us some slack the least they could do is to offer us a possibility to cashout directly to bank account.

I also sell on Etsy and on Ravelry, and i'm pretty sure fees per sale are less than 10% there.

let alone you would be taxed on each purchase if you had a sales tax, plus now you are outside for all eyes to see on all your purchases and the seller seen for all their sales/income of each item sold. The seller is going to add in their expenses and the things will probably end up costing more than they would if they were bought with $L..

Just the record keeping alone would be like, worse than doing bitcoin taxes at tax time if you had a really busy store.. It wouldn't be a 1099misc that someone gave you..you would have to crunch the numbers that went on the form..hehehe

There are probably a ton of other reasons why it would not be such a good way to go, but it's too early in the day for me to have my brain working that hard.. I'm still on my first cup. hehehe

    Β

But SL Marketplace website was once not LL-owned but a user-made. What if some other smart User was to create another new Marketplace where people would also pay with tokens/credits and the goods would be delivered in SL through Magic Boxes like they used to with the old MP. Only those tokens would not be L$, but just website's native tokens/credits. And 1 credit/token would equal to 1L$. The Buyer would buy those credits in bunches for their own local currency at the rate that exists on Lindex paying with Paypal (or some other RL online monetary system), then pay for different SL goods on the Marketplace with those credits. The Seller would then cash out those credits to their Paypal in their local currency. Thus we would cut a lot on currency conversion fees (local to US$), L$ conversion fees, and LL cashout-to-Paypal draconian fees. Obviously, the Website would take a percentage cut off each sale, but obviously it should be less than what we are paying now in total.

I don't have much knowledge on the subject and am just musing, if such a thing could be possible at all...

  8. Arton & ChinRey, thank you guys! Wow, i didn't know that LL have been working on a new default mesh avatar, that's about time!! 😲 Great news (to me)! I hope that will make the situation a little bit better. I've had devkits from Maitreya, SLink and Belleza since forever, and all of those work in 3ds Max. Recently applied for Legacy and got a response within 3 hours (!!), that one seems to be working as well. So i will just stick with these then, for now. I've also bought countless full perm dae's over the years, but never had such problems that i couldn't fix and couldn't get something to work... It's just, people keep asking me can you rig for this-and-that body, and every time i poke this or that body it amazes me how many mesh body creators don't seem to care at all if any content can be made to support their particular body. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

  9. Istelathis, thank you for trying to help, i appreciate it! Yes i tried to click on it, but since i don't have a discord i can't see/read it. Really can't be bothered to sign up just for that. There are like a hundred mesh bodies out there these days, and many of them seem to have been based on this project. Their creators send you off to R&R github as the source of the devkit, and the files are missing there and the links are dead. You would think that the main source should be working and up to date, since so many bodies depend on it. I guess it was naive of me to expect that of a free project, when ever the most popular and expensive mesh body creators like Reborn don't seem to care to provide a devkit to support the creation of more content for their bodies. 😫 {end of rant}

  10. so, i managed to get skeleton+geometry working in my 3ds Max. But i needed a tiny made out of it, so i scaled down the skeleton and the geometry, and now it comes out all twisted in SL... So, i asked a friend who works with Blender to make a tiny for me, using the .blend file provided in RuthAndRoth's github. It turns out that the blender file doesn't even have any armature in it at all!! You are supposed to add standard SL armature to it yourself, and that sounds as too much trouble to bother my friend with... The ReadMe file in the project folder says: "A version with a custom armature is available as of 2022-05-10, using Blender 3.0.1:Β Ruth2v4DevWithArmature.blend." But this file is missing. It's just not there at all. Also, all links to info, tutorials, and notes on the blog are dead. Was it really so hard to have a normal working ready to use devkit, like SLink (for example) provided to their clothing designers? I guess there is only so much you can expect of a free opensource project... So i give up.

  11. Greetings,

I'd like to create some clothing for an avatar based on Ruthandroth's Ruth mesh. The avatar creator suggests to download the opensource files from Ruthandroth's github. I've done so. As the title of my post suggests, i work in 3DS MAX. I don't have Blender and i really don't want to even touch it... So i have to work with .dae files. I'm trying to import Ruth2v4 dae into 3DS MAX and this is what i'm getting:

    errors01.jpg.65d34ba6951cda9e8d9c90334f715137.jpgerrors02.thumb.jpg.8c65d84ae3bf8e477c98ed04970af0a9.jpg

Luckily, the bone weights are still there, so i'm able to at least save the weights to an .env file. But i am not able to get any geometry out of it that would look like a normal body.

Then, there is a file in there, contribution by "Duck Girl" that is called RuthRC3_BakesOnMesh_Slim2. When i import that one i get this:

    errors03.jpg.aa765f5bfb2e8ac0fc126406a7b55239.jpgerrors04.thumb.jpg.66dc77b475397713ef2d085764d3a688.jpg

Now, this does look like a proper body. However, you can see that the skeleton and the geometry are facing different directions, and so the rigging weights seems to have been lost. I thought i could use this geometry to load up V4 envelopes on it that i saved from the V4 file. Sadly, this geometry is not a single body, but is made up of several meshes:

    errors05.thumb.jpg.54d9dce6c7c928d24dba2ccb103ddf71.jpg

So that trick won't work either. Any suggestions what else can i try to get a working skeleton with the proper geometry? Also, as a clothing creator i don't care about bento, i would just be happy with a basic 52 (or how many was it again) bone skeleton.

I was looking at the list of 300 mesh bodies to see how many wearers are wearing the older bodies..

Freya has just over 7300 wearers

    Isis has just over 1300

    Venus is around 575

That's more combined than Reborn has built up over the past year..

    Hi there,

i've been creating clothes in SL since 2007, but have been out of the loop with SL for the past couple of years... Now I'm thinking to come back and create more but i see that new mesh bodies have been popping out like mushrooms after the rain, so now i'm kinda lost... Back in the day i was rigging for Maitreya, Slink and Belleza Freya. Now i'm kinda shocked to see that Slink has pretty much disappeared completely?? 😨 and instead there are a bunch of new names i never heard of.

My possibilities are very limited and i can rig for only about 3 bodies at max. My question is, what are the most popular bodies out there? Is there some kind of list of all mesh bodies somewhere with their active users numbers that i could take a look at? Or any suggestions for top 3 mesh bodies? Personally i absolutely hate exorbitant boobs and butts and i wouldn't rig for those even if they were really the uttermost popular ones, but ideally would be 2 natural sized mesh bodies and one bigger one (like Freya). Is Freya still worth rigging for, or is it better to switch to this new Gen X Curvy? πŸ€”

This should not be happening with new listings.Β  The current behavior is to copy the information from the English language tab only, and then if the Merchant does not enter any information in the other language localizations, the system will default to showing the information that is in the English language tab/localization.Β

    Β

my newest listings from last week Friday did still have this problem. I used Quick Fill from a faulty item which apparently had Other Languages tabs filled with rubbish from another listings, and all of that got copied to the fresh listing as well, in Other Languages tabs. Hopefully, the new items will not have this problem.

  14. Update: although my JIRA has been closed ( πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ), Shrike Linden left a valuable comment there that can shed some light on what is really going on. Apparently there is some text in the Other Languages tabs that triggers the maturity rating. Of course it is entirely different matter why that text is there at all and how it ended up there, because i sure didn't fill out any Other Languages tabs. Ever. Of what few items i have inspected, some of them have description in Other Languages tab that have absolutely nothing to do with the item in question. Like for example, description in arm vines listing has text and tags from gypsy shirts. It looks like i have countless hours, if not days, of tedious work ahead of me cleaning up Other Languages tabs of all 500+ affected listings. There are listings that have all 5 tabs filled with bs text, and as far as i know there is no magic button to clean all that up in just one click... πŸ˜–πŸ˜£πŸ˜«πŸ˜

Looks like i will have to look up another JIRA...

  15. First time I have noticed this was back in August... I was searching in my own store for particular items and they were not there. Turned out they were marked as Adult, so i couldn't see them because my Adult rating is turned off.

So i put all my items back to General rating and forgot about it.

Then some time in September it happened again, and only then did i realize that it must have been happening for a long time already, and that about half of my entire store has been marked as Adult or Mature for all this time!! ThenΒ  i came here to the Merchants forum to see if there was any talk about this. Nothing i could find. So i went ahead and created a JIRA. It was a week ago, and it hasn't even been looked at, at all! I am shocked to see that nobody seems to care. These are all lost sales, not only to us the merchants, but also lost commissions to LL!

I assume the problem is caused by some unknown words in the description and/or tags. But there are listings in my store that are absolutely identical, with the only difference of the colour, and one is being flagged as Adult while the other one isn't and remains General. So How am i supposed to fix this?? Half of my store is flagged Adult for no apparent reason.

If anybody cares, here is the JIRA >>Β  https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-231302

i saw a sign behind the counter of a jewellery store inworld a while ago now. The sign was offering 20,000L for the last piece the store owner wanted to complete the set they were collecting

offering 20000L to whom? Whoever visited their store and happened to have that piece?

See, that is one thing i hated so much about gachas: it's ok to pay that amount of money to whomever got lucky to grab it in the gacha, but not ok to pay that amount to the actual Creator of the item who worked hard for it and rightfully deserved it? It's sick and twisted. I really don't understand it. Glad gachas are gone.

  17. wow, 90 pages that i'm honestly not gonna read! I really tried my best and read about 10+ pages but it's too much...

So i am sorry if this has already been discussed in this thread, feel free to point me to the posts if so...

I think i'm mostly glad that gachas will be gone. However, i recognize the importance it had for many SL residents, and i'm afraid it will cause negative impact on SL in general and SL economy.

I also have participated in several gacha events myself in the past, and i still keep all those gacha machines in my store for people to play if they want a certain item.

I understand that i will have to remove all of them. I really really really don't want to retire those items!! What choice do i have as a creator? I got a lot of hate and harassment in the past for making rares and ultras available for a high price in my store as a limited pack. I had to remove them all, and that was the main reason i decided to put those gacha machines back out in my store.

Would it be ok to offer the same old gacha items as copy/mod/ no trans version for a normal price in the store? Or will i be harassed and badmouthed for doing that again?

  18. Hi all,

i've been away from this forum for a long time, i might have missed something important... I have just discovered (thanks to a customer inquiry!) that Automatic Redelivery seems to be disabled on Marketplace. Not sure if it's globally, but all items in my own store that are copy and should be (and WERE!!) redelivery enabled are now showing as disabled! Also, when i went to check my list of purchases there is no link for redelivery for any items i have bought recently (which is not much, and i only checked few pages back), so it looks like those merchants i bought from are also affected. On those few items i checked from the other merchants, each of those items' listing also showing disabled redelivery.

I am sorry if this has already been discussed, the quick search of forum threads didn't give me anything related to this, so if there is a thread somewhere where this incident is being discussed please point me there, thank you. I would really like to know what's going on and if i should touch anything in my listings and try to put it back to Redelivery Enabled, i don't wanna break things even more... 😱

  19. I do experience a significant drop in sales, as well as performance issues. As it coincided exactly with the time when the lockdowns across many countries have been lifted, AND beginning of summer holidays season, i have attributed the drop in sales to that, without much of a second thought. The drop was HUGE, but that only seems so probably because the previous 3 months sales have been unprecedented since 2016... Performance issues i personally have attributed to my poor internet connection, so can't really tell if it's me or the SL...
