  1. Linden Lab gave us the freedom, we provided the creativity.

maybe some are here for the creativity, to create or admire the creations of others, maybe some are here for the freedom, to create anything and do anything they want.

lets see if another platfom provides with more freedom to express our creativity.

  2. your comparison of what people prefer instead of SL as a form of competition is very wide, for every form of entertainment there are infinite other forms of entertainment that people would prefer, if we narrow it down to a category, lets say, videogames, we could see some form of competition between players that like tetris to players that like battlefield, the users of one style of game will not change to the other because one cant offer what the other can, competition would be if one has the posibility to attract the same type of people from one type of game to the other.

Second Life users are still here after 10 years, why if it has problems? because there is no other platform in existence capable of attracting SL users by offering a better form of doing what they found in SL attractive.

after working for a while implementing ideas and implementing experience of what made SL as it is, and working with new technology to express those ideas, the new virtual world must be very advanced by now, they are working in a new virtual world, they may not want another SL with its problems, reputation, that would be like carrying the old problems with them, they want to make a fresh start with everything that made SL as beloved as it is despite its problems.

  3. if headsets come to the market in a good way as replacements for tablets and phones, they will not interrupt the phisycal world suroundings, it will enchance it.

the problem today with screen and devices that we carry in our hands is that it make us stop paying attention to our surroundings and make us get distracted by looking at a little screen for all the informartion we need (maps, information, communication), headsets cant function the same way as phones would, they cant be blocking our eyes blinding us to the physical world, they have to somehow bring what we want to see as part of the physical world, maybe the next virtual world will blend with the physical, using virtual reality headsets to create 3D objects in thin air with certain benefits, Microsoft Hololens does that, the next "Second Life" would have to be something similar.

  4. the development of the next virtual world is very advanced by now, they will probably release it next year, during the development time and ideas, they must be developing a way for it to be accesible with phones and tablets, knowing that the popularity of those devices is on the rise, and is still going more popular.

LL seems to be creating this new virtual world because the one we have right now it has too many problems that cant be solved with the old technology that has at its core, in order to make a good product, they have to clean up and make it from scratch, eventually they will get rid of "Second Life" and replace it with something very similar, maybe with a new name, they have to completely reinvent and rethink themselves to leave all the bad reputation behind.

something that they can do to widen the audience of their new platform is to promote it in game streaming services like Sony Playstation Now and Nvidia GRID, that way they can have it accesible in Smart TVs, they could still offer it to PC users, during the time PCs are still popular.

before that happens, they are gonna keep improving SL as much as they can while they complete their new virtual world, SL users are not going away to competitors because nobody offers what SL does, SL is the best of what it does, nobody is even close to offer such flexibility, such freedom, so much potential as SL does, World of Warcraft is limited of what you can do, IMVU has movement restrictions, Sony wanted to make a virtual world and failed in a few months, Second Life is still here after 10 years, and thats because there is nothing better at what it does than SL.

  5. many things to consider.

some people would expect minimum advertisement in their experience, and would be bothered by an addition of one that at first glance, they can not escape, they would argue that this new feature is being forced upon them, it will diminish the enjoyment of their experience.

now, we recieve advertisement in the login screen, and personally, i don't find it that bothersome, as long as is only text, like google ads, i think it will be ok.

what kind of advertisement should we get and when? it would be good if it would be something related to the place we are teleporting to, Linden Lab could get a reference of the type of sim we are going to, by seeing the place that matches more closely in search to it.

would business owners would like the idea to have their potential client persuaded to go to another place besides their own, before it arrives to the place? or maybe the advertisement would be about the place that you are going to arrive to, for example "DJ Canoro Philipp is now playing your favorite songs, please make yourself comfortable and enjoy the show, don't forget to visit our shops where you can find the highest qualty in clubwear".

if the advertisement would be about the place we will be visiting, it would be an addition to the place experience, i dont see many sim owners complaining about enchancing the experience of their sim, the could even add the rules of the place so the visitors would be aware of them before they arrive.

now, would that generate enough money for Linden Lab to invest in support? probably it will increase their income, but i think they have other expenses in they would like to invest first.

  6. many merchants don't receive a negative review as they should. your review was clearly about the cons of the product and still, Linden Lab preferred to play along with the merchant, althought the review was legal.

the same as the merchant the OP was talking about, in exchange of a bad review, in which an inconvinience was mentioned, Linden Lab removed the review, and the customer deserved a ban.

mauybe thats why merchants dont receive the review system as they should, because Linden Lab play along with them.

  7. the customer shared a drawback she found about the item, that by not having that security feature, she have the problem that is having now, if that feature would have been added, in her perspective the value of the product would be justified, the fact that the product is exposed to this kind of problems, its a drawback of the item, and therefore, her review is compatible with the purpose of the review system.

The purpose of reviews is twofold:

    • first, to inform other buyers or potential buyers about the merits, drawbacks, and uses of the item; and
    • second, to provide feedback on the seller's customer service.

if the purpose of deleting the review is because the creator dont agree about the value with the reviewer, than deleting the review was wrong from Linden Lab, it should delete only comments that are not compatible with the purpose of the review system.

it is also wrong to ban someone for writing a negative perspective that is compatible with the purpose of the review system, only because the creator disagree about the price. im sure many who visit the store may disagree about prices, the OP got banned because she dare to express it in a way that Linden Lab finds acceptable.

  8. as a guy, I would appreciate some clothing style that i could use in some event, if your friend is a creator, he may appreciate some addition to his tools, like some scripting package or prims that he could use. guys love to have a good arsenal of tools to work with their projects.

  9. it seems that the customer admired the quality of the products, and brought them frequently, it seems it found fault on the characteristics of that product alone, thats the hardship, the customer will not have access to the quality s/he admires.

the loss of benefits to the merchant, is that it will lose a frequent customer that probably invest a good amount of lindens, if the price of the products were high due to the quality, and was probably thinking in investing much more.

  10. i dont have access to "the whole story", i have access to what i read in this thread, and i am taking conclusions on this information.

i now know that the review was against what Linden Lab would consider a fair review, it was out of bounds, probably the informaion in the review didnt specifically helped other potential customers to make a deicision about the product.

Linden Lab knows better the reason why they decided to take action against the reviewer.

altought its a risk that every marketplace merchant would have, that some time a customer that is not pleased with the product would express it in the review system, if its done properly, the review may not be considered "revenge" against the merchant for selling a product that did not fit the taste of the customer, if the customer used the review system inappropriately, beyond what it is allowed, than yes, depending on the content, it may be considered revenge, and a merchant has the right to not do business with someone who is against what Linden Lab considers acceptable.

if the illegality of the customer actions is the reason why the merchant do not want to make any business with that person, than i guess is their right, nobody wants to do business with people that illegaly affect negatively the company.

  11. if Linden Lab agreed that it was a misuse of the review system, than i think its favorable to not make business with customers that may do something illegal against the company.

i dont know what the review was, it seems in this thread that the customer was pleased with the rest of the products, it may have expressed in the review a desire to not continue buying the products, if thats so, then i guess the banning was convenient to both.

  12. i agree that a merchant reserves the right to serve a certain type of customers. if the customer attacked in an illegal way the store, by copybotting, by distributing libellous information about the store, by being threatening to other customers or employees, or other illegal way, i agree that no merchant need that type of customers, and they would be better outside of the store.

what doesnt fit to me, is that for using a legal way to express their unconformity of the product, that the merchant accepted it can happen, the customer had negative consequences.

as i read the OP, the customer was very pleased with the products, so much that was a frequent customer, attracted by the constant quality, it only found fault in that specific product, if the merchant wouldn't have banned him/her, it may have kept a loyal customer.

  13. as the results of the information i gathered, the merchant, when it noticed that a customer wrote a bad review, took revenge against the unpleased customer by banning it from their store. that doesn't sound ethic.

when a merchant sell its products in the marketplace, it has to accept the fact that many people may find the products unfavorable, and as a result, they are going to use the review system to express it, that is a fact that may be unavoidable. the merchant has to accept that the risk is there. Linden Lab grants the customer the right to express its inconformity, by doing business in the marketplace, the merchant should accept the risks.

if the customer was banned for another reason that it was not because of the review, than i think i dont have that part of the information to have a more clear judgement of the situation.

  14. it seems the creator made the item no-copy for the purpose that if one would have a place that would need 2 tables looking exactly the same, the customer would have to pay double the price, i don't see other reason really why would a creator make an item no-copy.

you wrote a bad review making use of your right that Linden Lab grants you, and that the creator grants you at the moment of selling their products on the marketplace, the review system exist for the purpose of customer awareness, it is good that if you were not pleased with the product in any way, you let other potential customers know about the inconvenience, and then they decide if they don't mind and buy the product even with the problem, you did your civil duty, and i thank you for that.

now, it seems that many merchants in SL feel free to have low ethics, or no business ethics at all. by deciding to sell its products in the marketplace, it accepted the fact that some customer would probably would not be pleased and may express what it found uncomfortable about it, if the creator didn't agree to the idea, and as form of justice look for revenge, the creator shouldn't sell the products in a place that that could happen, because it seems the conditions to sell there are unfair, according to the creator.

it is definitly a very immature and unethic position of the creator to look for some kind of revenge, if the creator don't agree with the terms of the marketplace, it shouldn't be doing business there.

maybe you can still enjoy the products buying them "for a friend", using an alternative account.

it's pathetic how "responsable" business owners decide to attack their customers, forgetting about their business ethics, when they see themselves in a place that have little regulations. i wonder if they would be like that doing business in real life.

  15. i understand the love for these forums, all the memories, the people, the friendships, the surprising situations.

I had a scare like that some time ago, they closed the forums for 3 days, archived our conversations, and general discussions dissapeared.

many of us were confused and asked for our home, general discusions, to be available again.

luckly, Linden Lab realize how important this place of reunion is to us, and we have it back.

  16. there must be a difference in what could be considered public information and private information, public information is probable to be of public interest, lets say, an invitation to an ecological institution, and private information would be something that most people have no interest in knowing, and that information is aimed to a specific people in your life, like your doctor, your spuose, your parents.

when people write in their profile private information, information that is aimed at their partners and nobody in the world besides them would care of knowing, for example what you do in your intimacy, how much you love each other, probably it should not be in a public place, people can't do anytthing about it, is not an invitation to participate in the statement, and is not every body else business, no sane people would be interested in how you and your partner intimacy is doing, it can make people uncomfortable that you say those things to them.

if some information is private, aimed only at certain people in your life, it shouldnt be in your profile, maybe what you do with your partner and how you feel about it may be great for you, but people mostly are not interested in that information.

i think i'ts bad education to provide to the public information that is of interest of only you and your spouse.

  17. both statements that you wrote i understood, i had the ability to understand your phrases, with didnt get to me was your intention.

now, a phrase that say "it is very common for all types of birds to fly, but there are some who don't have that abiliti." there is a typo there.

did you understood the information that phrase was trying to deliver to the reader? maybe based on the context? or the way that all the other words, that are gramatically correct, are arranged?

if you couldn't understood the phrase, just because one letter was exchanged for another, then you have a problem with reading comprehension, and that problem is limiting your capacity of understanding, hampering your ability to enhance yourself with knowledge.
