That's right up in my alley. One of my favourite subreddits is r/artisanVideos, and pottery's one of my favourite crafts. I also sketch/paint IRL, sing, play the piano and sometimes compose too. As for museums, I'm the type who'd prefer a stroll in a museum as opposed to a stroll in a park! Such an art/history nerd. I'd love to meet you in-world!

Hi! @MelodicRain  I would to meet you in world as well! And I'm glad we have a lot in common too:)

I'm new, everytime I come on I find it so hard to make friends so I get bored and leave.

Things I like: videogames, books, nerdy things, animals, ocean life, anime.

I still don't really know what I'm doing in game, but ill figure out eventually.

Hi! I too have been having a hard time making friends even to the point where I ended up leaving SL numerous times. And I love videosgames, books, anime, and all things nerdy too! :D

    what kinds of arts? :D

All kinds of art. I like everything! From painting to pottery. Writing is also an art too, so that should count. I wouldn't say I'm the best artist out there, but I most enjoy looking at works other people create. I used to go to Museums a lot in RL to go to special exhibits & art galleries.

Hey all! I'm looking to make some new friends in SL! I've been in and out of Second Life many times before, but one thing I have yet to do here is establish connections as in the past, it felt like people either had their own thing going on, didn't want talk, etc.

    My Interest Include

Anime, watching Wrestling, Video games, art(I don't draw sorry), astronomy and astrology, and also writing (I definitely need some motivation to get me up and writing more). If any any of these things interest you or if you have a similar interest, feel free to reach out via IM or here!

And I forgot to mention this, but don't be afraid, I don't bite! In RL I'm not much of good talker, but I think I'm starting to get better little by little thanks to my current time here in SL :D

Nice! Do design clothes in SL? And is it okay for me to IM later? I'd love to talk more

    Astrology! what's your sign?

I'm said to be a Gemini. But after hearing some news from NASA about the constellations recently, I'm not too sure. But I always have gone by being a Gemini.

    Art, I love art.

Lol! Do you have any specific kind of art you like? I'm into all kinds of art whether that's a fan made piece someone drew or just painting. I used to go to museums a lot and I'd love exploring some art galleries for hours

Along with Owar's answer --- many mesh bodies that have been updated for BOM or are NEW versions will take the tattoos (as icons without applier system) the same as the regular original Linden body (the one you always wear under the mesh body but don't see).   This is VERY handy as you can always tell what skins and tattoos and clothing  (system layer clothing) you are wearing.  I love that part.

What do you mean as icons with out appliers?

37 minutes ago, Chic Aeon said:

MAITREYA chose to make the onion skin layers separate so that you only wear those (three layers available and you can wear none or all three) when NEEDED.   So this adds more steps and a more complex mode of getting your outfit together than on the regular BOM bodies.  And of course adds to the confusion.

When you say the skin layers in Maitreya are separate, does that mean there's a way to separate the original body from the maitreya or whatever mesh body you would be using?

Unless Owar has a Lara body or an alt, he most likely didn't know that. :D

LOL! Who know's maybe? Maybe he knows someone with that mesh body. Or maybe he is talking from experience without having used Lara body (in reference to my pretty silly question about the difference between "Bom tattoos and mesh body tattoos"?  )

  11. 3 hours ago, Orwar said:

BOM use system layers, the 'mesh body tattoos' you refer to are appliers

Thanks for the clarification on this!

    3 hours ago, Orwar said:

With the introduction of BOM (Bakes on mesh), it was made possible to use the system layers on mesh bodies again. This allows for multiple textures to be put on any given surface of the body, and layered on top of each other - in essence removing the need for multiple meshes for the bodies (reducing their poly count and texture area) and removed some of the issues of alpha glitching (i.e. when two textures with alphas are rendered on top of each other, the front layer will cut through the one behind it).

Okay. got thanks so much! @Orwar

You need to WEAR one of the extra layers so that the tattoo has something to apply to --- this on the Maitreya body.

Okay, thank you! I was able to apply the tattoo. I just have one more question. Hope you can help with me out with this one. What's the difference between Bom tattoos and mesh body tattoos?

  13. I've been having this problem for a while now, even back through my previous times on here. You see, I'm trying to apply a tattoo for my maitreya body. I started out by clicking the swiggly red blob that says BOM (insert tattoo name) brighter or darker than I click on the box that says Maitreya applier. However, when the applier appeared and I clicked on it said "No layer found for this applier. Please add a layer and retry"

I also checked the HUD and it didn't show any layers in  select layer section. And now at I'm at my wits end with trying to figure out how to put tattoos on the body. Anyone know how to go about doing so?

Very simple. You make a NEW default shape (see screenshot) by hitting the tiny plus key at the bottom of the inventory.

Then you WEAR that shape and Edit the shape using the appearance adjusters. Then save the shape and give it a new name.

Thanks, @Chic Aeon. Now is this just for creating a new shape from scratch or is it for editing a shape you already have?

I made shapes coming out of the pod and have had a few shape shops over the years that did well. Even with mesh heads -- not so hard.

Wow. How was the process of making shapes and heads? Did it involve any drawing or the use of blender?

LOL shapes block! 😄 Good one

    There's Builders Brewery.

Making clothes and shapes is the high end of difficulty in Second Life creation. Buildings are easy, vehicles are harder than buildings, clothes are harder than vehicles, shapes are harder than clothes. Although there are generic clothes you can just re-texture. Making custom T-shirts, for example, is easy.

Okay, I'll check that place out then. Why do you say shapes are harder to make than clothes than clothes? Just curious

  17. Hey all! I'm a 25 year old female from New York.  I am somewhat fairly new to SL. I've been on and off SL with many different avatars, but I never stayed on long enough to gather a full experience of all that SL is possibly due to lack of creativity, boredom, and no one to really talk to. I hope during this run on SL I can be able to meet some new people whom I can possibly have a meaningful conversation with as it felt during my previous attempts on here, people really didn't talk much or didn't want to meet up with me on here all that often.

My SL hobbies are very far few in between, as I know there's so much out there, but I just haven't explored it yet. But some of the things I do like are shopping, and trying on demos to try out looks I'd put on my avi in the future.

Something I hope to do in SL which I've heard about from other around here is roleplay (in sci fi, maybe even an anime based world [feel free to give suggest of cool RP in world) and run my own sim (with a club or something of the like)

My RL interest include: Watching Anime, Wrestling (mainly All Elite Wrestling at the moment), video games, and writing (although my creativity seems to be lacking in this quite often. I don't know whether it's writer's block, burnout with dealing with my mental health over a long time period, or just something completely different) I've been trying to find my passion or something I'm good at. And coincidentally, something I use to be good at was creating characters on other virtual world sites. But alas, that creativity has come and gone.  However, with my umpteenth time here on SL, I hope I can make an impact and not only do something creative here, but also to make some fun connections on here! So feel free to hit hit me up! Even if I'm a bit socially awkward in RL... lol

*Also would love to make friends w/ people in the LGBTQ+ community as I'm exploring my sexuality and would love to connect and maybe build a community with people.

  18. Hi. I'm somewhat fairly new to SL and I'm interested in learning how to create stuff, mainly things like clothes and shapes. Now the only problem here is that I don't have any experience with this whatsoever. I find myself (or at least, I use to be a creative person who has a lot of ideas, and I still think I do, but it's been hard putting those things together and making something come into fruition, specifically when it comes to RL and having a hobby, find my passion, etc).

Are there any places or resources for someone interested in learning to create clothes, shapes, and that kind of stuff? Any suggestions would be very helpful
