  1. I would like a collar or some other type of RLV system that allows me to select items/functions that are visible to anyone with public access, hide others, and (ideally) let me customize some of the menu text. I'm not talking about access restrictions so much as just visibility and presentation. Currently I'm using Wendy Starfall's Peanut Playset (free full version that I got grandfathered into I think) and I've played around a little bit with OpenCollar.

The problem I'm trying to solve is one where a lot of useful functions (like force sit) are down in the RLV menu instead of at the top, restricted items still have buttons that respond with a confusing access denied message, and it's not clear to the uninitiated what a lot of things even do. For partners used to playing with RLV and each other, that's not much of a problem. I play with strangers in dangerous places, and a huge portion of them, probably the overwhelming majority, are idiots to begin with and certainly don't have a lot of experience clicking through every kind of collar menu. It puts a bit of a damper on the fun to have to explain all this stuff to my captor.

The ideal case would be one where I could create a simple menu for dummies with just a few buttons like "Force Sit", "Strip", and "Grab Leash" that would bring up the correct menu/function, and leave off all the other stuff completely.

Are any of the budding INM rivals less misogynistic? I tried INM and was honestly horrified at the misogyny. Not every woman wants to be referred to as a (insert slur here) just because they are using that type of product.

There was some discussion of those systems in this thread. Unfortunately my current body barely even has INM support so I haven't explored them very well yet, but I will say that if you're not stuck on 3.5 like I am, the current version of INM lets you change all the messages to whatever you want via the configuration menu.

Fizz started out making shoes and clothes so she is capable of dress ing Prima. The fix for the Erika crotch is in the 4.1.

I've been in this Tonic body long enough to know that Fizz is a very talented and capable creator who can make a lot of very nice things but very few people are going to buy a body to wear only the creator's clothes and maybe a few others. Look at Eve, Star Body, and UltraVixen. Also, have you been to the Tonic store? I'm sure my mother would approve of nearly everything they sell there.

I don't want to hijack the Erika thread to gripe about Prima/Tonic but the trouble Erika is having in spite of a decent effort on behalf of the creator to get some hype and 3rd party support going should be a pretty good indicator of how important having some release hype is.

I don't think that list is current with what's in the store.. I shot over there to see what they had, because Reborn being so popular, wasn't on the spreadsheet.

I just wanted to see if it was in the store and a Reborn version is in their store..  I didn't look around too much.. just did a quick area search and camed in and then got out of there.. hehehehe

I didn't even think to check but you're right, they do have Reborn in the store (don't worry, they keep the place mopped). Now I almost wish I hadn't left that group so I could snark back about their bad info (which didn't come from an actual INM rep anyway, I should have known better!).

Prima was on the list but fell off it.. I think it's pretty much over for Prima..

Yeah, I don't know what Fizz was thinking. A body with no clothes for it but also lacks essentials for lewds is going to go nowhere.

  6. Just FYI, it appears that GenX is not on the current list of planned releases (Google Doc) for It's Not Mine. For a body with an animated cooter, that's not great. Hope that changes, or one of the budding INM rivals comes out with something first (honestly preferable, at this point).

Also, be advised, if you go and ask about this in the in-world INM support chat, people will get rather testy with you.

  7. To answer my own question, I got this link in the Something Different support chat when someone else asked about GenX support: INM/INAM Update Schedule (Google Doc)

It looks like there's currently no planned support for Erika, GenX, or Prima. So I guess I will be holding on to my Tonic Curvy a bit longer with INM 3.5 which still seems to work with most things.

Also, I want to go on record as saying the INM support chat is the most hostile support chat I've ever encountered, not from any official INM people, just obnoxious randos who feel the need to get snarky.

In my opinion you should use the same head and body so you can match both of the colors perfectly and not have neck problems along the way. I have done that before where i would have Catwa head or Lelutka head and Slink body, it didn't end well. I would always get issues with the colors to match them perfectly as they are 2 completely different brands. But I don't know that's just my opinion, you will save yourself a lot of trouble along the way.

This is very old information and a problem that has not existed for years, unless you're using really poor quality products. Modern bodies and heads have a neck join that prevents physical gaps and keeping the same skins for the head and body resolve any skin mismatch. In fact, you can even get away with some degree of mismatch with a good neck fix.

  9. So, amusing digressions aside, I wonder if anyone can tell me about the prospects for INM support and the weird crotch skin issue I asked about. 🙂

So are things looking up for this body now? I was really underwhelmed by the Prima launch, which I had thought would be the logical replacement for my (much loved) Tonic Curvy now that it's pretty much EOL, and while the body itself is fantastic, I've already done enough suffering as the owner of a body that no one makes things for. So I'm wondering if Erika might be a better choice with all those great features it has. I'm not a clothes horse; I just need a few different things. Roleplay and costume stuff would be great though.

Anyway, uhhh, I am not above saying I'm looking for a "sex body" (I will be fine if no one rigs a polonaise for Erika) and I noticed the apparent lack of It's Not Mine support for it. Is that forthcoming, or does another body work for it? Definitely a deal breaker if it's not available.

I did get the 4.1 demo and can see a lot of improvements over the last time I tried it (3.2) but one thing I noticed is that the HD Bajayjay's clitoral hood winds up with my BoM skin's exterior skin color. I tried one of the Kalhene skins included with the Leah head but got the same result. Is there a tattoo that deals with this included in the purchase?

Edit: I can't believe the forums censor the medical term for a cooter. That's just stupid.

  10. Yeah, I use the VAW unrigged one with just the inner lips, partly because I have a body nobody supports so I can't get anything rigged down there, and partly because I like the way the Tonic body is shaped down there just fine and just need something that I can open when it seems suitable to do so. This lets me move and resize it to where I don't feel like it's completely ridiculous. I don't think VAW is updating the unrigged one anymore though.

It looks like the trend in new bodies is away from Barbie so maybe one day these won't seem so obligatory.

Apparently, we're all children here and need to use euphemisms when discussing the ***** and ***** ( P&V since I know it got censored)

Maybe they just want us to use the more technically correct term "vulva" for the exterior.

Yeah the value could be huge for those makers that support lesser used bodies still, I've always liked seeing one of my favorite creators (Dolly Daydream) still supporting Tonic Fine even though I don't use it.

It's not like they're under false impressions either, having some hard numbers to support their continued commitment to more niche bodies might help them keep supporting it.

They might also find out some other interesting things, like if people with Kupra bodies buy more booty shorts and people with Belleza bodies buy more skater skirts, or something similar. Body choice is at least partly driven by fashion or aesthetics of some kind so maybe we will see some interesting diversification rather than everything for everyone.

  14. As someone with a body that's basically lost all support now, and having watched the support dwindle steadily since I got the dang thing, I honestly would have liked this to come along sooner.

    • I want the seller to know I'm buying this for my specific body. See, that extra rigging you did wasn't a total waste!
    • Rigging for less supported bodies is often half-ass and nobody seems to care. Maybe if that item is sold separately for that body, a little more care will be put into it.
    • I think things would be better in the long run if it weren't so easy to jump ship on less common bodies. Yeah I know I'm advocating people having less choice and that's probably bad but I said what I said.

I saw this a few years ago (3 or 4 maybe) but it didn’t catch on back then, and I didn’t buy from them, to me it looked like a money grab because a lot of people use many different bodies.

Original mesh creators have to rig separately for all those bodies, so as the owner of one body I'm having to cover the cost of the same work that someone with three bodies benefits from and I don't. If you have three bodies and want the same item for all those bodies, why should that cost get spread to you and me equally?

Anyhow, ahem. Except in the case of needing super posed and detailed photos of a couple during their horizontal tango for posting on some Flickr page, or erotic selfies, I'm not sure I see the need for detail.

It's pixel play ... as a lover I'm more concerned with the flow, the seduction, the words, the emotional action, and the general look of the scene and the softer focus on the bodies than I am with zooming in and inspecting whether or not the interaction between one's lady bits and the gentleman's Little Man look perfectly real.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm usually abducted by strangers. All the other ladies I see waiting around to definitely not get abducted and (*gasp*) compromised have lady parts so if I don't, I'm worried I'll get ignored by horny monsters have an unfair advantage instead of sharing the burden in sisterly solidarity.

I'll admit they don't do a whole lot for me, personally, and I think my body and skin give an impression of the area that's suitably attractive and realistic on its own.

  16. For what it's worth, I think the main driver behind openings that open so widely is so that, in theory, penetration poses will look like actual penetration for those who like to get the camera in situ while in flagrante (and spend a lot of time adjusting poses). That said, the cruel reality is that the aesthetic need for diameter can't keep up with the psychological need for girth, and thus we are doomed to a perpetual mismatch.

No, it's not. Every game that I know has the option "Frame limiter" and "V-Sync". This is nothing unique to SL, at all. These options are also very much essential.

Having the option and knowing what they do are two different things. Normal people don't think about this stuff. But whatever, nerd.

excuse me for saying so - this is one of the very core problems of SL. only the most techie of techie understand all these options, yet these options are left to novices to figure out how to make for a good experience in SL. and even at that, there is disagreement on what different options do what and how it affects performance

    Yeah ... No.

I'm not that sort of Tech person and even I coulda told ya that VSync is a mixed bag. It's been around a long time in other applications, with the same mixed bag results.

Yes you are that sort of Tech person because I didn't even know what vsync is until I read this thread, and the only reason I even bothered to look at the thread or these godawful forums at all was because the right click in world problem is really bad for me and I wondered if other people have it too (apparently it's worse for me than most, may have to roll back to the last version until it's fixed because it's a real nuisance). Anyway Jackson's point definitely stands, but now at least I can play with a setting I didn't understand before so that's cool I guess.

My main hope for these NUX bodies is to raise standards for third party bodies, which I think are dreadfully disappointing at least among the high volume models, all due to stupid decisions by the creators (or perhaps their half-witted marketing advisors). But I've already griped about that in this thread; I'd just add that the NUX bodies must achieve some level of success, and be retained by users for some interval, in order to apply that much-needed pressure.

And, of course, they must not make the same unforgivably stupid mistakes: At a minimum, they must be modifiable and provide all dev kit materials to anybody who asks. That is, they must be in the spiritual tradition of the original system bodies in terms of creative openness—which is to say, the polar opposite of mainstream mesh body makers who imagine every eyelash a proprietary triumph to be protected at all cost.

Raising the standards of 3rd party bodies would be a nice secondary effect but I don't think that's the point and I don't think that's how NUX's success should be measured. A couple of days ago, I spent 10 minutes helping a 3 week old account I found standing alone at a sex club switch from a newbie avatar to one of the free Altamura bodies you can get at places like Helping Haven, and this person was absolutely overjoyed. "Thank you for making me pretty!!" Even an avatar with skin you can't change and you can hardly find clothes for was such a massive improvement for them. That's how you measure success for NUX and the bar is extremely low.

As for dev/makers kits, I can't imagine LL is going to gatekeep this, but I will also point out that the mesh makers kit for Tonic bodies has been available to anyone for L$100 and that has done jack all to help more items get produced for those bodies (I am a long suffering owner of the lovely but neglected Tonic Curvy; the struggle is real) or help with their popularity. Maitreya gets lots of love because it's ubiquitous, other bodies get love if the creator is able to create enough hype to get a big clothes maker on board. NUX will be ubiquitous and only needs to be good enough that people are willing to spend a little to hang some clothes on its back.

A commercial-grade perfect body is literally the LAST thing they should be doing. It would kill avatar commerce in SL stone-dead, and without avatar commerce, there is no SL.

The starter body should be exactly what it is - a decent (but not perfect) avatar that's good enough to achieve user-retention in the first few months, and a stepping stone to a full-featured commercial body without the horrendous learning curve that new users currently have to fight through.

With the NUX body they can get used to what a mesh body and head are, so there's less of a technology leap when they finally decide to get something better.  And this way they can go a few months so they can learn properly, rather than shreiking in horror at the classic avatars and wondering why they can't look like the avatars in all the pictures without spending L$10,000 or more. It's no wonder so many new users give up and quit within a month.

I feel that this really makes the point well but I want to call out the thing that I feel at least some people in this discussion know but are avoiding, and others may be missing entirely. A large portion of the SL population, both established and incoming, is made of people here for lewd purposes, either entirely or at least to some extent. I am not ashamed to count myself among this group. Well, maybe a little ashamed, since I did make this alt specifically for it. But anyway, when people like me are being "meshist" as I've seen one blogger call it, it's not because we think someone's flipper feet or telltale linden mouth shape invalidate their opinion of Proust or whatever.

Even for people who aren't here for that, I think the possibility of it is still tantalizing. It's appealing enough that they want to feel like it's accessible to them, even if they choose not to engage with it. It's exciting to be hot, or to at least think you are.

This, to me, is something that really sets SL apart from Meta and other sexless dystopian nightmare simulators. In those things, the body is minimized, largely abstract and symbolic, a place to which you can affix brand identifications or maybe some kind of identity symbols, and otherwise serves only as an embodiment of your buying power in a techbro consumer hellscape. But SL, largely in spite of LL rather than because of it, celebrates the body, not just sexually but in all kinds of physicality. People want to be part of that. People want to look cool, look hot, look sexy, look awesome. They want to engage in a virtual social presentation of self that mirrors the physical world's social presentation of self, extended by being freed of all the limitations the physical world imposes.

Dragging their feet on upgrading the basic avatar has always felt like a kind of denial on LL's part, like they don't want to admit that SL can be (and often is) sexy, and I'm not even talking about the adult content here. This announcement seems like a certain degree of acceptance that people really do want to have a body here, and all that implies, not just a costume, not just a collection of brands and logos and identity symbols. I'm not saying we're all gonna wanna jump its bento bones but it will definitely create a better experience for the new user going to the nude beach and not looking like something that washed up on it when they stand next to someone decked out in all the latest.

The NUX avatar doesn't have to look as good as the person who dropped L$10K+, it just has to not look like someone should be calling security or an ambulance when standing next to that L$10K avatar.
