  1. For now[1], the current deploy strategy for a particular version seems to be:

    1. Deploy to BlueSteel only as it's the smallest (in number of regions) of the 3 main RC channels
      1. Obviously if there is a problem, fewer regions are affected by having to do a rollback
    2. If all goes well, the following week deploy to the other RC channels
    3. if 2) goes well, the following week deploy to Main SLS channel

[1] I suspect the deploy strategy for PBR when it arrives will be different

  2. My guess is that the non-BlueSteel channels will get a restart. BlueSteel will get a restart if they haven't got ready to deploy a fix to last week's RC server, otherwise BlueSteel will get the "fixed" server.

There are other scenarios, but based on recent deploys I think the above is most likely -- though I have been wrong in the past.

    We'll find out Soon™

  3. There was nothing new rolled to the RCs last week, hence Main Channel just getting a restart yesterday.

For today's (26th April) roll. only Bluesteel RC will be getting a new version; the other RCs will just get restarts. From Inara Pey's week 17 SUG meeting summary

    SERVER DEPLOYMENTS

    • On Tuesday, April 25th, the SLS Main channel servers were restarted without any deployment, leaving them on simulator release 579248.
    • On Wednesday, April 26th, simhosts on the Bluesteel RC channel will receive a bugfix maintenance release, highlights of which include:
      • “Fixes in the vicinity of” BUG-232037 “Avatar Online / Offline Status Not Correctly Updating” – although all causes of this issue may not be fully resolved with this update.
      • A fix an issue with avatars colliding with their vehicles on region crossings.
      • Removal of a spurious error message that would pop up on llSetKeyframedMotion.
      • Being able to add UUIDs to the ban list that don’t belong to an agent or group and then being unable to remove them.

In lieu of the missing deploy plan, RCs got 2023-03-24.579022 which seems to fix some LSL bugs in previous RC version

    • On Wednesday March 29th, all simhosts on the RC channels will be updated to run the same simulator release, comprising the new LSL Functions llList2ListSlice, llSortListStrided, and llListFindListStrided (per BUG-231545). It also has a fix for DATA_SIM_STATUS from llRequestSimulatorData(), and doubles the amount of memory available for Linkset Data (LSD) to 128k.

  6. Just to add to what LittleMe has said, the theme for the 2048 parcels has already been stated as "Ranch homes". Having googled images of those (had  no clue what that style is), they seem to be wide houses -- which kind of makes sense for a 2048 parcel, since you can't make a square parcel with 2048. The only real workable rectangular parcel size for 2048 is 64x32. Of course they could go for an "L" shaped parcel, or some other non-rectangular shape, but then they'd have to either tessellate the parcels close together or provide landscaping to stop people encroaching onto protected land to "square off" their parcel. I personally don't think packing close together or an "odd" shaped parcel would be a popular proposition, hence in my view the likeliest offering is going to be 64x32 with a wide house.

  7. I've seen these type of bot-clusters on a number of long-abandoned lands. There's nothing you can really do about them -- mainland has no covenant and camping on abandoned land is not against ToS (hence ARs will get ignored). Really all support can do is restart the region, again because the accounts are not violating ToS.

Other than playing the bots at their own game or buying up abandoned land, moving is really your only option.

  8. For at least the past couple of months I've had a (very) few occasions where objects (either rezzed or attached) give a folder of items on click (viewer outputs a message saying object foo gave you folder blah) but the folder is nowhere to be found. Clicking again does give the folder. This is with auto-accept enabled, so is NOT a case of accidentally declining nor is it a case of "missed" click (otherwise viewer wouldn't say the object gave you a folder).

Not seen any obvious reason why it should occur, due to infrequency, and fortunately has not occurred with no-copy items. I'm using Firestorm 6.6.3.67470, so would be interesting to know if others are seeing this with other viewers or not

  9. Not unexpected since there has been nothing new on the RCs for weeks.

As for Wednesday's RC roll, this info is from Inara Pey's blog post of the SUG #50 meeting

On Wednesday, December 14th, the simhosts on the RC channels should be updated with a new simulator release, marking it as the last planned simulator deployment for 2022.
    This update:

    • Includes the new llLinkPlaysound, llLinkStopSound llLinkAdjustSoundVolume and llLinkSoundRange functions which allow sounds in child prims of a linkset to be played without the need for a supporting script.
    • Fixes the simulator to allow uploads of sound clips up to about 30 seconds.
      • This had been pitched as a Premium benefit, but according the meeting will be available to all users.
      • You will only be able to upload / playback sounds longer than 9 seconds on the RC channels until this simulator update is deployed grid-wide in 2023.
    • A fix for BUG-229301 “Maximum Memory allowable by scripts not being reset until teleport or relog”.
    • Thanks 2

FETA: The release notes to 2022-11-11.576542, last week's RC channel code, are at long last available and it would seem that there has been effort put it to improve the dreadful voice issues...maybe it is coming to a Main Server region near you today.  It would've been nice to have "official" confirmation.

Not official confirmation, but Main Channel has indeed got 576542.

Given the thanksgiving holiday coming up, can probably assume nothing new for RCs this week.
