[Getty Museum Challenge]

Last week Soft Linden suggested I bring this brilliant challenge from the Getty Museum into Second Life for one of my SecondLifeChallenges. Since then I have been searching their collection for an image that I can recreate using items only in my Second Life inventory. I quickly learned that I could not accomplish this task with my Linden avatar, she just doesn’t have much in her inventory...yet (give me time!) 

So after randomly searching for days, punching in all kinds of keywords to try to find something I could recreate, I found this image: A Toda Man by A.T.W. Penn. I kind of fell in love with him, he has so much depth in his eyes. I logged into my male alt and tried to see what I could do with only items in my inventory. Close enough? Maybe? It was fun!

Here’s how you can participate in the #GettyMuseumChallenge:

1. Search their online collection (or their Flickr pool, which I feel might be easier) for a work of art that you can recreate using items only in your Second Life inventory. Since I realized this may be difficult for some Residents with smaller inventories (like my Linden avatar), let’s also allow anything you can purchase from the Second Life marketplace. That way you’re still not leaving your home to get the things you need for the challenge.
2. Try not to use Photoshop too much. Mine is a completely raw shot! The point of the challenge is to show how we can do this challenge in Second Life, without the assistance of Photoshop.
3. Be fun and creative with it! Some of my favorites were when people used deli items or clothing to recreate the images, so funny!
4. Share your images in the comments of this forum post. You don’t have to put your image beside the original, as I did above since I know some of you may not have photo editing software. Just share your image and then link to the one you were inspired by on the Getty website!
5. If you decide to do this challenge and post it on any social networks, don’t forget to use the hashtags #SecondLifeChallenge and #GettyMuseumChallenge. You can also add your images to the Second Life Challenge Flickr Group as well as the Official Second Life Group. 

I know this is a bigger challenge than usual, but I thought it would be so much fun to see people get really creative with it.

[This or That Challenge]

Last week's Favorites Challenge turned out to be quite the favorite, especially on Instagram stories and Flickr. I had many requests for more of these kinds of Instagram story templates, so I decided to do another one today as a challenge. I may do more of this style just on Instagram for stories, so follow us there if you want to do more of these kinds of challenges. I am working on a big (and very different) challenge for next week, so this is something to keep you busy until then!

[Pet Challenge]

Not only is March 23rd National Puppy Day but it's also Cuddly Kitten Day, obviously the perfect day to introduce the Second Life Pet Challenge! 

To participate in this challenge, take a picture with your animal/pet in Second Life and share it with us! The first picture is of my ALTs, that I took last year, going on a roller skating adventure with their puppy. The Second picture is of course of all my kittens rolling around in the Lab Gab studio.

[Friendship Challenge]

The world is in a really fragile state right now and although we are all social distancing in the physical world, we can still reach out to our friends and be there for each other in the virtual world. 

To participate in this challenge, take a picture with someone on your Second Life friends list, and share it with us! Reach out, and spend some time with friends inworld. 

I took a picture with Wendi Linden; she was one of the first people to send me a friend request when I became a Linden last April. It’s been almost a year for me and I’m so thankful and appreciative of the friends I’ve made at Linden Lab. It is an incredible company to work for and it’s wonderful to see all the passion and love the employees have for Second Life.

This week we released the first episode of our Love Made in SL docu-series for 2020. Going through the YouTube playlist, it’s heartwarming to see so many love stories that were born in this virtual world. 

With Valentine’s day tomorrow, I want to start the LoveMadeinSL challenge. Let’s spread love over the next few days by sharing our images and stories about Love made in SL.

[Decade Challenge]

As the new year begins, I thought I’d bring in the recent Decade Challenge to Second Life as a #SecondLifeChallenge. Here is an image of my original avatar from 2010, and then one from today. 

With the introduction of shadows, mesh heads, and even more realistic textures, it’s incredible to see the technical advances. I love the way both my avatars look though, no matter how dated.
