The whales who are really dropping money on clothes barely wear stuff from last month let alone years old content. Its a constant cycle of new and fresh. Compatibility with old items is great but moving away from that isn't going to hurt the brand. Releasing a separate body into the saturated market would have been a mistake. Of course time will tell, but in my opinion Maitreya is doing this in the best way possible for retention and new user uptake too.

Whales have not been Maitreya's target customers for years now. It was the "I'll buy one system that's future stable" folks. Whales come and go, they follow the tides. Maitreya is trying a gamble now - but I'm not sure they still have what it takes to survive in the market for fad bodies that will be forgotten about in a few years.

Seems weird if they make Petite its own body...

Is it really? For those few tech savvy of us who know the arcane art of saving outffits the included autoglitch scripts always left us with clipping chests...

  3. As many stuff the Lab did it started with good intentions, but then they got carried away and forgot why they even started it.

Convincing users to stay or even upgrade to premium requires trust - trust that won't be there when the new users realize the new outfit they just invested in is for a body not supported by the majority of content creators. Even if they won't buy anything because a well meaning resident warned them in time ... trust will be lost anyways. Many will interpret this as an attempt to take advantage of their ignorance. Many free to play browser games try that - how would new users consider LL to be different?

So now instead of the new user retention aid it was intended to be, NUX has developed into a machinery that erodes new users' trust into LindenLab,... I'm pretty sure it will not work as intended if LL continues down that path.

The LaraX F**kup-date destroys any Brand Loyalty I might have, forever

    It's brand suicide, I agree.

All your clothing is weighted the old way, the body is weighted the new way, so the clothing will no longer move the same way as your body, Entire wardrobe rendered broken and useless, wait 5 years to rebuy/redeliver (assuming it ever gets updated at all) everything, or decide to stop shopping in disgust.

Which basically is no difference than slowly migrating to another brand's body. No one knows how much Lara stuff there will eventually be or how many creators even will be allowed to have a devkit. It's never been easier for costumers to break away. "Huge selection of available content?" Poof! All smokes and mirrors.

It will also be a pain for creators who get the new devkit because guess what? If you don't continue Lara support you'll loose my future sales, and I doubt I'm alone on this one.

And of course the blogger infobubble is all "Happy, happy, joy, joy" ... companies would be wise not to listen to them however. They get their stuff for free. Those of us you depend upon for income however - we actually pay for our stuff, we might have a different opinion.

I feel like I should know the answer to this, but what is meant by "better weights" and "smoother weights"?

the body will react "better" and "smoother" to shape sliders and animations, ... whatever that means - as both terms are subjective it just translates to "Nanana, that's what you get for investing in our brand - we'll make you work to recreate your look" to my also very subjective mind LOL

  6. The ONLY way I see this working without users getting super angry for investing into NUX outfits is if creators include some some super complicated way to also acquire a copy rigged for a serious mesh body from some kind of exchange/update station later on.

I'm astonished at the inability of modern companies to see disgruntled and alienated customers that inevitably will result from certain business decisions... must be something part of the 2020s Zeitgeist.

The rest of the body looks basically the same, but maybe the sliders will be more forgiving on this new version?

Highlighted part equals the body looking different with other shapes...

We're only shown the default shape, I bet the differences will be less subtle for custom shapes...

There also seems to be some change to the shape of the groin area, it's getting a more defined topography.

A rare time where the English not having a word for 'ljumske' makes it hard to explain, but it appears to be deeper .. (the joint between the thigh and the underside of the pelvis).

Looked again and you seem to be right, so all the "body enhancements" won't fit anymore neither... 🙀

    • Show higher LODs than normal for objects with crap LODs. The viewer knows it's showing a crap LOD when it sees some huge drop in triangle count. It can boost the quality of such objects. This creates a bad incentive for creators, since it rewards them for crap LODs. So if viewers do this in a big way, there needs to be something to prevent, or at least reduce, future creation of crap LODs. I may play around with this in Sharpview. Boost a few large building-sized objects with crap lower LODs to see how it looks. Not many.

Rewarding bad designers? Soon everyone would create bad LODs for that precious LI decrease.

Except that creating a new account after being banned is a big NO-NO.  If LL is able to connect the new account to the old, the new account will be banned also.

I'm sure the Lab can be talked to about this, not bargained with, just talked to. They still might refuse to communicate back though. They won't tell her why the account got banned. What they however most likely will tell her is wether she as a user is banned - if she is not "her" previous account is not considered hers to begin with.

If she as a user is banned she can try to appeal. Chances are slim but if she does have her include as much relevant detail as possible so the Lab folks working on the appeal have some material to judge over.

She'll have to find out wether she as a user is banned or wether just the account she created with her ex got banned but is associated with him and not with her. My approach would be writing an E-mail with a concise summary what happened, asking for the info wether she as a user was banned too because she has no intend on breaking the ToS  by creating a new account and wants to err on the right side.

Don't scratch me mean kitty!  hehe

As crazy as it might sound here is my reasoning:

Old SL was coded with a lot of UDP  - if some information does not get to you, you'll never know

Now assume the online status message can get lost... (we de facto know it can get lost)

How do you force a second sending of everybody's online status? Relogs are a proven remedy in many of those cases, but they are annoying.

Is there something that might also force a renewal of that list while staying online?

I have the strong suspicion that changes in your contacts list (blocking status, friend status .. whatever) cause a "something did change" routine which includes a renewed sending of everybody's online status...

Just a script-kitty view on things, but I'm a kitty - no scientist, somebody has to field test the theory while I sniff catnip and purr.

it is possible to break the flippers

Why would they? Flippers guarantee the tier bill gets payed. Once the Flippers are broken LL would end up with the two adult continents as abandoned as M/G rated mainland. For now the flippers gladly pay the server bills knowing they can hand down the costs with interests to those purchasing parcels. That's plain old Capitalism at work. Adult pixel entertainment is a luxury commodity after all. That is the situation we are in now - while we both would prefer cheaper parcels there is nothing inherently bad with it though.

Otherwise, I don't see why this is needed: Nobody would have a reason to report you if they cannot see anything "reportable".

    One word: Pilots

On mainland your area access limitation is restricted to the first 30m above ground or so. Users can fly overs this limited space and will see what you do when looking down. If you want a naughty outdoor pool you must limit yourself to adult parcels - which affects their pricing.

the mods should close this thread, its long gone off topic 😁

How so? I think we all agree the fact private adult rated activities are allowed under certain circumstances on moderate land affects the desirability and thus the land pricing. We have focused on one singular aspect that affects pricing but hey, people also seem to have arrived at the conclusion that a lot of people really seem to value that particular aspect.

  19. You need a seperate UV Map on your 2 arms then use the Aux layer channels. You will also need the skin texture for your upper body. Here is a quick hack to get a second arm if your mesh body does not allow seperate arm UVs:

    1. create 2 copies of body
    2. put on body
    3. hide one arm with alpha HUD
    4. remove body
    5. put on other body
    6. hide all but arm
    7. create skin applier also applies Aux channel to upper body and use it
    8. update your skin to also have upper in Aux, alternatively use upper body skin as lowest tattoo level for Aux)
    9. create tattoo with two different upper channels, one in Aux one in upper body and use
    10. wear both bodies
    11. Optional: curse like a madman because you confused left and right side

Does "every reasonable effort" require all three of those measures, or are they each individually adequate reasonable effort?

My interpretation was as many of those as possible. So all three of them unless you are in a new LindenHome where the parcel access option was nuked by LL shortly after their release.

  21. Best make the physics prim really thick, stretching all the way into the floor. Sometimes HAVOC tunnels through thin boundaries. Most mesh physics have no volume, your dog however has a sphere or a cube prim linked to it - those have a volume. Volumes are not allowed to overlap. If your dog tunnels through a mesh physics floor it will drop through it, if your dog however tunnels into a prim it will be pushed out again.
