      Oh, I didn't know 2048 x 2048 textures had been re-implemented already. That's awesome. And horrifying.

       In that case, you'll want a stock photo that's at least 8,192 x 6,144, cutting it into cubemap components is easily done. There are several sites that offer free stock photos in various resolution options, with 'fair use' rules to them (always check the IP of textures you upload into SL with the purpose of selling - some of them will want you to put the source of the image within your product, i.e. a line in your note card stating 'backdrop texture curtsy of <website>').

       The easiest way to browse is either to find a stock photo site, like Shutterstock, and search there - or if you're lazy as I am, just Google 'Skyline' and in the search tools, set the image size to whatever you need.

    I can't find any city landscapes which are 360 panas

    can you?

       SL doesn't support textures over 1024 x 1024 at present, though there has been some talk of this being pushed to 2048 x 2048 again - and of course, existing textures of this size that were uploaded back when it was possible, retain that format. So, 1024 x 1024 is as high a resolution as you may get, for now.

       This, seeing as a cubemap is split in 4 on the horizontal and 3 on the vertical (usually), means that each face is going to get 256 x 256 - which is going to look very blurry if you put it on a face larger than, well - certainly anything large enough to encapsulate a skybox. At that point, if you want as much resolution as possible, you'd be better off facing each direction of the box separately and use 6 textures; although this would of course be adverse to every rule of texture optimization. You could also partition your faces, if they're mesh, and make several faces within each face, take a high resolution picture and partition that into as many quadrants, and puzzle them together - but that would be some proper evil genius shenanigans in SL terms.

       If you want windows in your skybox, with a backdrop of a skyline, I would suggest building a miniature box around each window, or simply put a plain face a short distance outside of each one - that way you'll use smaller textures and surfaces, i.e. less rendering, and pick as generic a skyline texture as you can find and use the same texture for at least every window on each side of the build, to save yourself some texture data.

    No!!! The textures are individual 2048x2048 pictures, she mesh box is split in to 7 texture faces. 6 on the inside and one for the outside.

    The idea is to find a cubemap which is huge so that I can split it up in to 6 individual textures

  3. Hello everyone,

    I'm looking to purchase some hi resolution cubemap textures for use with my skyboxes.

    I cannot find any on the marketplace and the only ones online were sky only.

    I'm looking for CITY LANDSCAPE SKYLINES but must be cubemaps.

    Any help would be massively appreciated.

    I like to think outside the box. A sphere might be harder to make the initial texture for, but it will look better inside. However, if your skybox only had windows so the person inside is always going to be looking through what is effectively a viewport, you can simplify things a bit by working out what is going to be occluded from the viewport. For example, they are not going to be able to see down beneath their feet or up over their head because of the floor and ceiling, so you ,might get away with a texture on the inside of a hollow cylinder.

    again, thats not what im asking. im only asking about a cube. square box.

    So are you asking how to put a large sphere prim all around a skybox and texture the inside of it with a panoramic view of a city so that inside the skybox whichever way you turn you see a part of the city, ground, or sky? (A box will be much easier to texture but harder to actually hide the seams where the sides meet).

    The easy part will be making the large hollow sphere, but the texturing is going to be complicated, because you are going to have to stitch together three separate panoramic views obtained as described by previous responders, ground, city, sky, and then get them onto the inside of a sphere.

    My suggestion is you get one of the many texture grids available and put it on the inside of a large hollow sphere, then work out from there the divisions into which you are going to paste the panoramas for the ground, city and sky. You will need an image processing program such as Gimp, paint,net or Photoshop that can handle layers. The base later is the grid you have put into the inside of the sphere, and on three separate layers you add the ground, city and sky, using whatever distort transformations your graphics program supplies to get each panoramic view aligned with the areas on the grid that correspond to the right places on the inside of the sphere. Some pf these programs do not allow you to distort an individual layer (paint.net for example, where I usually end up copying the layer to s separate image, distorting it, then copying it back into a fresh layer and turning off the original layer).

    nobody mentioned a sphere. always been a box lol

    It is showing the VR version - the "flat" version is what you want. But if you're looking for the cliche cityscape photograph that every other skybox creator uses your best bet is DiuckDuckGo or Google. Even Bing.

    i think you not understand my question. i want to make a box which shows the complete panoramic view, 360 everywhere, sky and ground. but i have never done it before.

    There are HUDs to do it (search market Place for "Panoramic" - BUT there also is a new Project viewer from Linden Lab that allows you to take 360 degree snapshots with one click. Here is one I did:

    And you can see it at Flickr in VR format.

    OMG I just noticed that SL Forums are auto-embedding and formatting 360 Pix HAHAHAHA

    thats not what im after. im looking for a real life city landscape panormic view that i can make a box with to put a skybox inside

    Hi Adam!

    I have absolutely no information regarding the capabilities of the Marketplace code system, so I am unable to say if targeted Enhanced items would even be possible.

    As for wasting money to advertise, again, only the merchant can really determine that.  Many users switch between avatars, a nice luxury of Second Life, with many different users having both male and female avatars, along with any other number of avatar types and styles.

    With the exception of the Marketplace homepage and the Zero L$ checkout page, most sellers who pick a Landing Page PLE are already targeting users who visit those categories.  In most landing page categories, either items already in those categories are featured, or related items are featured.

    For example, the Animals main category has Featured Items that are all related to Animals.

    The same with the Men's Clothing category.

    I would be very surprised to see a Feature Item on the Men's Clothing page for a listing for women's lingerie.

    Are there ever times when an item shows up in the Featured Items section that is unrelated to the category? Yes. But most times it is accidental, and the Merchant contacts support when they realize that they put the PLE Item into a category that is unrelated to the item they are selling.

    i never considered that. thanks for your reply.

    Typically the stores in the event malls are for the folks IN THOSE EVENTS only :D.    There may be some exceptions of course. I just don't know of any.

    The events run for a few months then restart so you can join when they restart a new theme. I got in to the last 6 Republic event and made a good amount from it

    Hi AdamZadig,

    1. Only you can truly decide if the Listing Enhancement on the main Homepage is worth it.

    2. Yes. When you add a PLE to an item, the Traffic Report will show you information about the click-thru's for the item.

    The traffic report is 24 hours out.  So if you just added the PLE today, the information will be available tomorrow on the Traffic Report.

    Dakota will LL ever make marketplace featured items targetted advertising? My buying history and avatar sex (male who buys mostly buildings, textures and men's clothing) would surely mean I should see more creation items and men's fashion there instead of women and clothing and female makeup kits. Seems like those designers are wasting their money advertising to me

    I would have considered setting up his own. Seems a lot of people post things here then never check back lol  ... or maybe they do quietly and unknowingly.

    Truth is I wasn't checking because I rented a store on a town style sim. But now the problem is that I want to display my buildings on a large plot of land instead of demo rezzers. So I'm back to square one. The real problem is that I'm the most indesisive person in the world!!

  12. HERES ANOTHER CHALLENGE|:

    the tc has an animation script and a color script......

    is is possible to put both codes in to the same script instead of having two?

    script 1)

    default
    {
        state_entry()
        {
    llSetTextureAnim( ANIM_ON | LOOP, 5, 5, 18, 0.0, 90.0, 15.0 );
        }
    }

    script 2)

    integer iON;

    default
    {
        touch_start(integer num)
        {
            llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast( LINK_THIS, [ PRIM_COLOR, 5, llList2Vector( [ <0,0,0>, <1,1,1> ], (iON = !iON)), 1.0 ]);
        }
    }

    Go ahead.... try it:

    integer iON;

    default
    {
        touch_start(integer num)
        {
            llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast( LINK_THIS, [ PRIM_COLOR, 0, llList2Vector( [ <0,0,0>, <1,1,1> ], (iON = !iON)), 1.0 ]);
        }
    }

    It will work every time.

    THANK YOU!!!!!!

  14. thanks for this. im getting name not defined errors. the object is 1 prim and the face is 5. how would i write that properly?

    8 minutes ago, Rolig Loon said:

    Certainly.  When you write your script, treat it like any other toggle switch.  Set a global integer variable to TRUE when the face is white and FALSE when it's black, so

    touch_start(integer num)
    {
        llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast( link_number, [ PRIM_COLOR, face_number, llList2Vector( [ <0,0,0>, <1,1,1> ], (iON = !iON)), 1.0 ]);
    }

    where link_number is the number of the link that you are affecting, face_number is the number of the face on that link that you are coloring, and iON is your global switch integer.

    thanks for this. im getting name not defined errors. the object is 1 prim and the face is 5. how would i write that properly?

  15. is there a script i can use to change a specifir prim face to black color on touch, and then to whte on second touch.

    i have an animated gif on a tv i made, and changing the face color to black on touch makes it look like an off switch. but need to be able to change the color to white on the next touch to turn it back on.

    To quote the script note in the Library:  "You could easily change that orientation by changing the order of X,Y,Z parameters in the vector <0.0, gDistance*gON, 0.0>."

    A,azing. thanks rolig. im learning slowly but getting there. now i have a closet with 2 doors and 3 draws and each has its own script to work individually,
