  1. I'm already a premium member and have no interest in the new 1024 homes released. But I really hope they plan to finish that island up and perhaps add more islands before they increase the prices or that will just be another jab in the heart to all the people wanting and waiting on a new Linden home. Plus seeing another half finished continent is very bleh.

There are many great and reasonable a la carte suggestions out here (and quite a few we considered internally).  The truth is, we would be neck deep in bugs for the next 5 years, and while we're still open to implementing _some small number_ of the premium features a la carte, we have to pass on the "build your own membership" as a full blown offering.

Yeah i kinda figured that would cause more issues than its worth, not to mention the increase in support tickets and live chat.

Most companies and people don't seem to really care one way or the other. We've become a disposable society as well as a "me me me it's all about me" society. Definitely not the world we were lead to believe would exist at this point in time. Those of us who are not in the "1%" are considered expendable, less than human. We have become "the Other".

Nah, the 1% wouldn't exist without the 99% paying them.

  4. I'm totally against micro transaction type platforms, but it may just work on a platform like SL, but I wouldn't call it a micro tranaction if people were able to pick their premium wants.

Set price for group increase, set price if you want the 1024 or not.

Basically a build your own membership. Check the boxes for all the features you want, then check out.

I'm sure this isn't something that could easily be done and may end up causing more issues in the end then it would be worth dealing with between technical issues and customer support.

  5. Seems as most of the big content creators don't mind about the price hikes, and of course the land barons don't mind. I think the group limitations on the basic members seems to be the issue most have.

Easy fix. Let basic members keep their 42 groups, but still lower their offline IMs. Problem solved. This would eliminate probably a good 50% of the unhappy people posting all over the internet.

What I posted on the other thread "$99 Problems" I still believe to be true.

But overall I can live with these changes. I'm still gonna pay my premium (Specially since I get to up it another year for same price woot!) and I'm still going to be here tomorrow. Everyone is just in shock right now as usual and will get over it and accept it. SL is like heroin and we are all junkies, no way out except rehab and even then you will probably be back :P

So I think just allow the basic members to retain their 42 groups and lets go do what we do on SL!

Here is another problem with the decrease on the free account groups: People will leave a lot of creators groups and they no longer will be well informed of new releases, updates and offers.

This means a decrease on product sales and a lower power for store owners to keep their consumers up to date, or simply keep a close relationship with them.

That plus a probable increase in product costs due to  merchants earning less with the process credit fee increase, plus the mandatory premium account cost to be able to manage the business properly. The saving on land that some might get is not enough. Is all more expenses and less earnings our way.

Join their Facebook group instead 🤣

Well, this isn't good news at all for me. I'd been adding alts to premium to offset the price increase in buying $L. So, I'll likely renew the ones already premium in one batch, then cancel the premium memberships. During that time, I'll join as many groups as i can and keep that benefit when I cancel (I just won't be willing to leave any of them like I do now). Forget any groups that have a membership fee. Sorry stores, this will also chill people from paying for any group joining fee, as people will need to be more fluid.

I'll go back to buying $L, but will do so only once or twice a year, and not buy any extra like I've been doing. That will budget me to have much less $L to spend on any other things but land that I also rent. I was also considering buying more mainland, but with just 2 premium accounts I have just enough land to make what I have now cost free. Of course, paying for 1024 extra is far less than the $99 per year, so the second one may also be canceled.

That figures out to a net loss in income for LL by my estimations. Loss of extra premiums, loss of revenue from buying $L to buy stuff. Less chance of non premiums buying $L to pay for store groups.

But an increase in private regions by land barons who will in turn rent parcels out to all the people that dropped premium and no longer "own" land. Own 3 sims and rent them out = Premium for a year covered just off the profits from 1 single month. Rich get richer poor get poorer? :) Corporate America! Risk vs Reward. Should be pretty easy to get all your parcels rented out once this goes in to full effect. Should also be a lot of newly abandoned land. Mainland will be a post apocalyptic desert.

I'm just kidding, I have no clue what I'm talking about.

But that's not a bug but a feature. It's normal commerce to incentivize consumers to hang out at your store or join your group with discounts. Plus people see the group's name in profiles and as I often do then check out the group and then the store on MP to see what they have. Much of the time I find new and awesome stores this way. Also, many groups have very active chats - like Teegle, Tonic, and Maitreya. Those groups are always aflutter with activity. And then you have Truth which offers its regular freebie to its group. This is normal, healthy commerce and name-branding.

While I agree, that it is an issue that store owners somewhat force/cohort users into joining their groups, its not as big as an issue as in General. I am a basic account. I was also an Estate Manager for a role-play sim. That can average between 8-10 groups just for that 1 place. Then you have to add on the places I want to frequent, that require specific group for land/rez rights. I am also a mod in 2 social groups. There are also beneficial groups for role play that I am a part of. All of that said, the current 42 group cap is filled up pretty fast. And I am only a member of 1, maybe 2 store groups.

    Agree agree.

A lot of merchants are forcing people to join groups for free items so they do have some value to people. There's also groups for regular gifts, which are the ones people do not want to leave at any cost. Group notices aren't the greatest, but Caspervend's equivalent cannot be used for purely information/marketing so they serve a purpose. Customers asking questions in support groups and getting answers is sorta rare, as problems are - or should be - sorta rare, but I think it has a lot of value, if only to avoid potentially confused and upset customers.

So what you are saying is THE REAL ISSUE is not the decrease in groups but group owners forcing people to join their group for benefits.... seems like group owners need to change their plan.

Tell Linden Labs that.... Doubt they will listen though. It pretty apparent that they don't give a damn about the bigger picture of it all, and care little to nothing about the Second Life commerce other then lining their own pockets, and hurting all the common people in the process.

I think they do care. They do tons of testing on stuff and I'll willing to bet testing shows that you and I will be here tomorrow, and you and I are still gonna pay our premium, and you and I are both going to suck it up and continue playing SL even with the increased premium and linden purchase/sell fees.

    See you tomorrow :)

  12. Seems the only ones benefiting from this are private region owners. (The 1%ers)

I could give 2 poops about extra groups myself. Can give me 10 groups and I'll live. Offline IM's can be sent to email so don't care about that either.

To me it seems like the wrong audience is targeted in this. The majority of SL people are not private region owners (right? or am I wrong?) and even the $20 off the price its still way out of reach for the majority of the population to even fathom the possibility of owning one.

I think a price reduction in tier in general would have been a better thing than private regions.

I am glad they will be allowing you to re-up your premium at current prices if you do it before June 24th. So they at least have me for another year.

A HUGE portion of SL players are disabled too. So I expect there will be a few premium drop offs from them.

I think the end result of this will be a lot less premium members and maybe the people that already own sims might get a couple more.

So if you rent land out... get ready because all the people that stop paying for premium will need a place to rent soon and you can get a region to rent to them $20 cheaper!

  13. You should probably clear the landing point and allow people to fly. Lot of people like to see the ground level and when you put walls up and disable flying in a skybox it makes it difficult to get down to the ground lol or put something at the landing point allowing people to TP down.

Very nice job! Love the tree and you hardly notice your dippy jerk neighbor anymore and I bet it really pissed them off that your deco is far superior than theirs even after their attempts to ruin your land :) Good job!!!

real adult land is mostly only needed for businesses, for 95% of the private use Moderate rating is more than suitable.

Furthermore.. the OP asked for opinions, replying to my opinion is kinda irrelevant.

    ok

as you ask for opinions ...
why would i pay 100k for a 4096 parcel, where i can do exacyly the same as on any 4096 m parcel on the grid, but for 1L per sqm?

Of course this is a very simple comparision... but i'm pretty serious about it, i can sail on the blake sea with a simple tp, i can as non business do exactly the same on any moderate /adult parcel at any location on the grid.

Show me ANY adult land for 1L per sqm and I will buy it all :)
