Actually, I'll laugh at you if you do use a mesh head :)

My plan is to be the last avatar in SL with a system head, because until I can manipulate the head sliders to make a mesh head an exact copy of my system head, I'm totally not interested.

    /me laughs at you relentlessly.

    Hi all,

I wonder if someone can help me. I have finally got my mesh body to look like an actual body rather than a splodgy mess, but I don't know how to put things like my tattoos back on. Also, can you wear normal classic avi clothes with a mesh body. I apologise if this sounds a bit dumb but it's taken me a long time to get the body to go right and after that I have no clue. Another query - how come all the skins I had for my new posh bod don't cover the face and I can't find one on MP (though that may be because I'm not looking in the right place).

Thank you for your help in advance.

Why in the hell would you want classic clothes on a mesh body??? Just get fitted mesh clothes lol

I know we all do this from time to time -- drag things onto ourselves by accident. But the last week it has been beyond bad with this and today several times I rezzed something 10 to 30 meters away from my avatar and ended up wearing it (one was a house - not handy; glad I am not new).

So my question is -- is this happening to other people too? My other though would be that my mouse is dying and that is certainly a possibility as it is old and used HARD :D.

    Thanks.

Yes. Happens to me randomly. I'll rez something far away and end up wearing it. Its not your mouse, its probably a glitch in SL that will never be fixed.

    Good Morning!

You can see our first post in this new section

As it says in the post "We’re starting a new Second Life Web section on the forums where we can post release notes from our deploys, go over what’s been fixed and what we continue to work on."

Meanwhile, your stats for private parcels are still wrong months after the changes went into effect. https://land.secondlife.com/en-US/land-detail.php?region_id=7cc35356-2d00-4cd1-a34a-df9a795b31b8

But hey,  I'm glad there's a new section in the forum. /me rolls eyes so hard they fall out of their sockets.

25 alts parked in a box at 3000 M count for traffic too. When i go to a "high traffic" club lately,  first thing I do is check the radar to see where all the people are.

If they are in said box, I leave and usually don't return.

    :)

A LOT of places have been doing this. Gives off the false impression that a lot of places have "high traffic" and these types of practices should not be allowed.

Perhaps people feel like they should be able  to fly over land because that's the way it it in Real Life. I paid for the land I live on, but aircraft fly over it every day, as is their right, and they affect me a lot more than I'd affect a SL landowner because they shake my house and they are LOUD. Why should it be different in SL? In addition, anyone who does something that makes someone else's life worse that doesn't make their life better just because they can is indeed A JERK.

I used to have fun with people like you. I wouldn't have ban lines. I would set up gun turrets that, if youre hit, would teleport you back to your home. The rage was glorious.

    Hi everyone!

I'm really enjoying my experiences in second life so far. I've met some wonderful people, and even started making mesh tattoos for my own avi, with an aim to one day maybe even start my own store! I've become really involved in the wonderful queer community around SL, and feel very welcomed!

However, one thing that has been a huge source of frustration for me, is being told I must wait 30 days to do things.

Now, before you mention about trolls and griefers, I get it, I really really do. Trolls suck, and protecting the community is important, especially in safe queer spaces. However, I have been turned down for 10 jobs as a DJ, hostess or dancer now. Not because I'm unqualified, my RL experience more than qualifies me.

Nope, it's because I've not been here long enough.

Another argument could be that I simply don't know my way around, or how to operate the software well enough. Though I can see lots of people might need time to make that adjustment, some do not. This has knock on effects, as of course without employment, as in real life, being social and taking part in fun activities can be hampered.

This isn't a request, or me being angry at any one person in particular. It's me sharing my experiences, hoping some people will choose to judge people based on merit, as opposed to arbitrary time limits, and encourage discussion of this topic.

    Thanks! Hugs n kisses!

I hired a DJ at my club once. He had been around a long time in SL and had quite an impressive DJ management background. I made him a GM. He then tried to take over the whole club and was promptly fired. My point is, it doesn't matter how old your avi is. The 30 day rule is irrelevant when a 8 year old avi can have a 2 week old alt.

If this person can prove how good he/she is live, I would hire him/her regardless of avi age.

Another thing is everyone is on their little smart phones.  I showed my daughter the game and first thing she asked "can I play it on my phone?"  Sadly the game is losing people.  I just had to move a club due to the owner quitting after a decade and closing his sim.  And some probably think Sansar might take players too.

Its waay too sophisticated to bring to mobile devices. The only option for mobile is the heavily skimmed 3D version...Lumiya. But thats just basic functioning. And DONT play it on data...it will eat all your data in 5 mins lol

The fact that LL doesn't actually listen to residents about what we want in the destination guide isn't really an indicator that sl itself is dying, that's always been that way. It's merely more evidence that LL doesn't listen well (which, for all intents and purposes, was LL's motto for a very long time by some accounts-including my own). I give LL props and kudos when deserved, but listening and communicating has never been a strong suit of theirs. Though they *could (hint, hint) change that at any point in time. That is actually one of their biggest downfalls, and I believe also the biggest contributing factor to the vast majority of issues-the fact that a lot of LL employees seemingly have very little knowledge of the world..sl, itself, let alone experience in it/with it.  The destination guide has been a bit of a bust in and of itself for a very long time now. I actually never recommend it to anyone, though I can, and do recommend places that might be in the guide. It's too hodge podgey for my liking, and thrown together..rather than being indicative of *actual hot spots, desired locations, and in many cases..locations that still exist. It's not updated very frequently, nor is there anyone that goes around to ensure places listed still exist. I don't think there ever has been anyone at LL that did/does that, well, I've not seen evidence that there has..I may be entirely wrong on that point (but I doubt it).

If something not being up to par was indicative of it dying, then, well, frankly, the earth itself is dying a very slow and terrible death, so...why are we worried about our virtual world doing so when we can just enjoy what we've got til it's gone, like we do everything else in life?  Then again, I've never really liked the chicken little approach, so...take that bit with a grain of salt (and some bacon, because bacon sounds delicious right about now)

Its more toward bringing in newer people than keeping the ones already in SL. The first thing they are told to do is to check the destination guide. They go to a few places and most are just not impressed. One college student gave a youtube review of Second Life for a school project and described SL as poor graphics and outdated, mostly dead with a heavy learning curve. Although she did make a few friends but it wasn't enough to impress her. Thats the crowd Second Life NEEDS to bring in and its really sad that not alot of people understand that. Something like this cannot be old school forever.

Yeah, well, DEAD places in the destination guide, that's not because "SL is so last Decade" it's because the destination guide follows the official corporate line that "computers are for art and education and intellectual high-brow-ism, not FUN" and insists on filling the guide with conceptual art spaces, quirky photo opportunities, and learning experiences.

I can't remember for sure, but the official sim for the IRS , back when they maintained one in SL, might have once been in the destination guide.

The guide  is filled with 'dead' places because LL have no idea, and appear to have never had any idea, what kind of places SecondLifers actually want to visit. This complete failure to comprehend their customers, is why they created Project Stupid, and why that is such a damn bust, even before it gets out of it's misnamed "open beta" alpha release...

The fact that people can recommend places for the destination guide and none of those places actually make it in (or ever rarely do) is one reason why I say SL is dying and why the only thing holding up the grid are shopping events that are heavily promoted outside of SL for this very reason.

How long have you been in sl? Honest curiosity here, not being snarky..you seem to come across very inexperienced with what second life used to be, used to look like, used to include. It may well project out into what you think of sl today versus what you think it should be-especially compared to other things...so, really, honest curiosity. It's hard to try and see another's perspective when it may well be skewed by some small details..(and I try to see perspectives, whether or not I agree with them..yes, I'm weird, we established that ages ago, lol)

Windlight's intended purpose had nothing to do with photography, btw :) I was here when it was first introduced..but Solar describes it much better than I(and has likely been here far longer than I, and pays far more attention to such things than I once did too, lol). Oh, and it's not a firestorm only thing, never was, never will be. :D  (and I don't like the LL viewer either, most folks don't, even LL will tell you that, lol)

Not as long as most as I came in around 3-4 years ago. But when someone mentions windlight, its ALWAYS the photo tools so I just became accustomed with that.

  12. 1 hour ago, Solar Legion said:

Windlight is the name for the upgrades to the lighting and shader engine within the main SL code made sometime around 2009. It is not to be confused with the later Advanced Lighting Model which added shadows, projectors and laid the ground work for Materials. While it is quite handy for photography that is far from its intended or even primary use.

The Firestorm feature you are thinking of is the quick access floater for a large number of graphics related settings called Photo Tools.

Its also a term related directly to those photo tools.

  13. Just now, Tari Landar said:

Windlight isn't an external program used for enhancing/fixing photos, though. In fact, it's primary use has nothing at all to do with photography itself. I'm not sure it matters here. You were, after all, complaining that people use external programs for photography.

Um, no. Nowhere on this forum have I ever complained about people using external programs for photography. Klytyna however, has been raging against them like a crazy lady. Windlight is an internal function in firestorm primarily used for photography. I don't use the official viewer. Who even uses that?

The only editing I ever do with my SL pics is sometimes cropping them - I don't even touch up the SL pics as I would many RL pictures.  I don't use the SL Profile Feed, nor do I upload the pictures into SL.  All of my pics are either put to Flickr or posted here in the forums.

    But do you use windlight?

Ah, so there was a fashion event yesterday? Funny, it wasn't listed on the Destination Guide.. Also, please show me one other virtual world with the capabilities SL has that has 40K online at any given moment. I'll be sipping my coffee while I wait.

The destination guide is a corporate supported piece of BS where you can only get on it if you are suggested and are approved by Linden Lab itself.

Thats because events are not promoted by Linden Labs since they are are not technically "destinations" since their destinations are only open during a certain time frame. Ive been to quite a few places in that destination guide and most are DEAD.

Since you chose to defend your original piece of tech illiterate nonsense with an edit, I'll quote and reply to the edit in a separate post so it doesn't get lost...

    1. When you upload an image INTO the Secondlife world, on the ingame asset servers, it converts to jpeg2000, and reduces image size to max 1024x1024. This is for IN WORLD ASSETS ONLY. Repeat

THIS IS FOR IN WORLD TEXTURE ASSETS ONLY - NOT THE WEB FEED

    2. When you post an image to your web feed, it's uploaded to a completely different server system, in PNG format, at whatever image resolution you posted it in when you took the snapshot which can be LARGER than your actual SL screen resolution if you so choose..

If you are unaware of these differences and too damn lazy to check (or simply crippled by the smartphone experience), I would suggest you refrain from making comments that are technically and factually WRONG.

    3. Farcebook promotes... Farcebook. "Click mah link visit mah Farcebook page, like meh!"

    4. I AM sitting down, I use a computer not a phone to surf the web and log in to SL.

What the hell is your freaking problem, lady? People can log into SL on mobile if they want. Who the bloody hell are you to dictate how people can log into the grid? I log in from mobile when I'm on the road or at work because it's convenient. You insisting that people stop doing that...well...good luck.

You are correct that the images on your profile feeds are in quality PNG. The issue is that, again, it's NOT suitable for photography because it's a profile feed.

Stop being a control freak and dissing everything you refuse to understand.

I'm not sure SL was either designed to be an all-in-one "3d-Photoshop-Illustrator-Maya-Blender-Instagram-FB" virtual platform?

So while you're correct, I still fail to see the point?

Not everyone logs in for photography either. I think you even mentioned it yourself here : "the only thing holding up SL are fashion events. Take those out and the grid would be pretty much dead."

No, but I'd say a good chunk of sl people have a Flickr. But we all know nothing beats a fashion and shoes event lol
