If we were to update the Dale Carnegie classic for SL, what would we write? Here are some thoughts:

1) Do be friendly and treat everyone with respect, no matter what their avatar looks like.

2) Don’t block people just because they are annoying- try to understand them, get to know them!

3) Don’t be a griefer.

4) If you are new to SL, avoid begging for money (L$, “munnies”) or asking random strangers for SL sex.

5) Respect other’s privacy and property. Don’t wander into someone’s home and play with their sex bed.

6) Talk with other avatars (in open chat or IM) before offering friendship. Almost no one likes random friend invites!

7) Don’t voice if no one else is voicing. It just makes people want to turn off voice.

What do you think, agree? Disagree? Any ideas? Obvious suggestions are needed!

It may help to collect RL lingerie, to  help bring an authentic experience of lingerie to SL:

- Touch real lingerie, experience the softness, silkiness, rub it against your cheek, touch your lips to it..

- Smell real lingerie, new, used, clean and dirty - how does that smell make you feel? Does it inspire you, disgust you, *r**s* you?

- Try on real lingerie yourself - get in touch with your feminine side - does it make you feel s*x*? Dirty? Vulnerable?

- While you are experiencing real lingerie, think about what happens to lingerie that is worn, used loved - tear it! Soil it! Trample it under your feet in the dirt!

- Take all of the experiences you have with real lingerie, and use that when designing lingerie for SL - your customers will see the difference! Especially if you sell something unusual like dirty, soiled, torn lingerie that is otherwise beautiful and seems like it would be silky smooth, diaphanous to the touch..

I find lately that I enjoy the social aspects of the Forums more than SL itself!

So..it occurred to me that maybe some analogies would help show how different aspects of the Forum are um..analogous to different aspects of SL! 

Here are some examples, you may have different ideas:

1) Individual threads may be analogous to Sims, Regions, or SL Experiences - you have to “opt in” to participate in a thread!

2) Some Forums may be analogous  to different SL Maturity Ratings: 

- General Discussion Forum <=> General Rating

- Any forum with slightly “racy” posts <=> Moderate Rating

- Adult Forum <=> Adult Rating 

3) Posts with a lot of video content, for example music videos - analogous to clubs where DJ’s play themed playlists.

4) Posts by, um..people with issues or attitude, especially by obvious trolls - are analogous to griefers.

5) “Vanity” threads (pictures of your beautiful av’s) are like SL “fashion shows”.

6) “Wanted” forums and threads are like Marketplace searches or in-world searching for your Precious..

7) Forums about Mesh, LSL Scripting, etc. are like..hypothetical places in SL where you could learn these things. In the days of Prims, it would be the Ivory Tower of Prim but now I suppose mostly “groups” in-world.

8) Personal/Group Forum messages are like SL IM’s and group chats.

10) When people like each other’s Forum posts enough, it’s like being Friends in SL.

11) Sadly, when you block / Report someone on Forums, it is like blocking or muting them on SL.

12) When you refer to RL/FL things in the Forums, it is like doing the same in SL.

..you get the idea by now. Agree? Disagree? How are the Forums “like” or “unlike” SL itself? Tell me in replies how you feel about the Forums vs. SL - and how they seem  similar or different to you!
