  1. I kind of figured those steps, but I also want to turn off the advertising, and take some steps to drop the listing in any other place it is listed. I know I had to jump through some hoops to get started but can't remember how to find how to turn off the advertising.
  2. My Saloon doesn't pay the rent, let alone pay the performers. I've been offered a fair price for the land. This would be a good chance to close. How do I close the business properly to avoid confusion for former customers and the new owner's customers?
  3. How do I boot, evict, or what ever you call people who won't pay their room rent?
  4. Already done, and auto return is set to 0 (off). Working now except for the one pose that requires the owner to sit first. That pose is no longer in use at the saloon. LOL Come on by and I'll show you the place. The auto saloon bartender makes a good simple drink. (Whiskey, rum, brandy, or wine by the glass, beer or ale by the mug, sarsaparilla for those who took Carrie Nation's pledge, as well as coffee, tea or hot chocolate by the cup for chilly mornings. By the way, get another kudo because it worked. LOL
  5. OK. That's part of the problem. I haven't set the parcel to the group yet. I'll try to do it myself, but be ready to bail me out if I screw up. I've printed this to make sure I follow instructions. You've earned one kudo off the bat for using language I understand.
  6. On an owned parcel, I own a saloon. My employees complain that they can't use the beds and poses which is part of their job description as saloon girls. How do I allow them to use the items I furnish so they can do their jobs? Keep the answer straight forward and in plain English, please. I am just computer literate enough to turn the machine on and off.
  7. The answer given to my previous question suggested the classified ad for my saloon should be places/hangouts rather than shopping. How do I change that? I just canceled the first ad and can't find a choice for places/hangouts in the drop down list. Is that because the L$50 / week price still shows, because it's in an adult area, or is it lag in the computer records? While I'm at it, how do I nominate my saloon as a destination/bars&grills? Or is it a special attraction because I have live performances only one day a week (at least so far)?
  8. Based on my answer to the question asking for a definition, which is "a place frequented by some person or group" a hangout is just that. If you have a large number of opera fanswho like to listen to and discuss opera, a place where you gather to enjoy the discussion qualifies, though I doubt opera fans would fail to find some fancy word in Italian, German, French, or Latin to call the place. For cowboys and cowgirls, a country western bar with background country music would apply hangout quite appropriately. For teens in my time as one, a diner, malt shop, or drive-in, with a juke box playing do-wop music qualified.
  9. The dictionary defines hangout as "a place frequented by some person or group". That is an objective statement. For the changing connotation that colors the definition, depends how far back in time you want to go. In the Old West, it was a pace where rustlers, robbers, and others on the wrong side of the law hid from the law. It might have been a sleepy town the other side of the border between countries, states, counties (parishes for you folks in Louisiana), or it could be an isolated cabin in rough country unlikely to be searched by a sheriff's posse. During prohibition, it was a back room in an urban area where criminals hid while they planned their next job, or hid from the law afterward. In current parlance, it's a place to hang out with friends to chat, dance, and, if adults are involved, drink while they watch Monday Night Football. Seems from my short time in S L that the dictionary or current parlance are valid choices here too, except in Old West or Prohibition role play areas. .
  10. I guess half an answer is better than no answer. Thanks for the information on what I need. Still need to know the nomination procedure and where to get the form.. I spent too long pushing paper in my R L jobs to let a little application scare me. Hmmm. On further thought, my whole working life has been pushing papers, sometimes interspersed with stretches of manual labor. My first job was as an outside salesman for a livestock feed company. That started my love-hate affair with paper work but you didn't want to mess up an order for 25 tons of chicken feed concentrate. My last job 35 years later was as a real estate appraiser for the federal government. Again, didn't want to pay more than market value, but neither did you want to underpay.
  11. Just opened a new Saloon. Closest category for classified ads was "shopping" but a saloon isn't shopping for goods, it's shopping for a good time. Closest category to that is Bars & Grills in the destinations listing. I've already paid for the classified ad, so I'll live with that for the week. Still, How do I get my saloon listed as a bar & grill. This is a full service, 19th century saloon, by the way. (wink)
  12. holy cow! I'm sorry. The lady singer didn't show as a member when I started to panic. But I set the land to the group anyway. Now the duet reports successfully loading some of their "stuff". Looks like we're good to go. (I say 'looks like" in case this is a false positive.) But, you miss out on a free trip to the moon. ROFLMAO
  13. Better hope this works, big fella, or like Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason) of the Honeymooners said often to Alice Kramden (Audrey Meadows),, "One of these days, Alice, to the moon." In response, Alice would maintain her deadpan expression, and answered, "Yeah, sure, Ralph." then went back to cooking supper or washing dishes. ROFL I just realized where I got my poisonality. ROFLMAO
  14. OK. I surrendered and set up a closed group for employees and performers at my saloon. One of the performers came by after joining the group. We tested her ability to rez her instruments, speakers, tip boards, and other stuff. Big time fail. She can't get her stuff on the group land. I gave Performers the ability to build on the land, gave access to group members, and allowed group members to bring stuff onto my land or to build from their inventory. what gives?
  15. That's half the question answered. Thanks for that. I just want to know a bit more. How do I let visiting musicians move in the instruments, speakers and other "stuff onto my land without opening it to every stray Tom, Dick, and Harry to litter my property? If I have to start a group, so be it, What settings does the land need to have to keep some control over the free loaders too busy or dumb to find a sandbox? I'd prefer to do it without a group though. Had some losses from a Real Life group that folded and I could no longer get to the property to get my stuff.
  16. I've just opened a saloon on owned ground, and don't want a group set up. What settings do I need to specify for visiting musicians to set up and play their music without allowing every stray Tom, Dick, or Harry to abuse that permission ?
  17. Another step missed, but this was putting the photo in inventory. Thanks again.
  18. Knew it was simple, just a forgotten step. Thanks.
  19. Once I get the place ready for business, I'd ike to have a photo instead of the question mark that presently shows. How do I do that? While on the topic, how do I change the former photo for a present use photo?
  20. I saw and read something which answered this question, but can't remember the instruction. Just need help finding it.
  21. Where do I find the maturity rating on a piece of ground before I buy it? How do I check if that rating is consitent with the township in which it is located? I'm not tech oriented. I am happy that I can turn my machine on and off, and click to erect firewalls and load a security program. I'm also less than two months in Second Life, so don't really know where to start looking.
  22. When I started, I chose a "People" avatar I liked and started to play. On loading, it was stuck at the left hip to the landing point. I solved that problem by changing to a "Classic" avatar. Figured it was just something in my computer that stretched my avatar grotesquely when I moved. (Head, arms, upper torso, right leg moved, left leg and hip stayed in the originall spot.) I bought one of the aftermarket avatars because I never could get the "classic" avatatar to the look I wanted. Haven't had any problems since then, and the people I met looked normal, too. This past Sunday, finally met up with a friend who only visits occasionally. Her avatar acted the same way mine did before I switched to the Classic. It was the same avatar I chose at first. That was the spur to ask, or maybe just report in case you are unaware of the problem.
  23. OK. In English, not Geek, does that mean if I play my Pandora station while at S L locations, others can hear it? I just went looking on Internet Explorer using Bing, and found Pandora. They had the magic price, free, (LOL) so I picked a few radio stations, and signed up. I get music in my locations in S L just fine if I minimize the page that shows the Pandora connection, but it's all a new deal for me. I don't know that many people in S L yet, so haven't been able to ask anyone else if they can hear it. I figured I'd need to tell them the connection if needed, but no sense telling them if it doesn't work.
  24. I went looking for a source of music for the bar I plan to open. Found Pandora would make one of my favorite singers and time period. Now, how do I pipe in the music to my bar?
  25. The ban lines are up while I build. When I finally open the business, they will come down. I like to do things legally whether R L or in cyber. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse to break them. But it's nice to know I wasn't as half baked as I felt after the earlier responses. I thought I was in the right maturity zone to handle a few beers after work I'm getting lots of practice putting up buildings and moving furniture, though. LOL
