  1. This has been asked so many times and there are a couple threads with in-depth explanations as to where to start and how to ultimately get the kits. Short answer is, you will not get the kits unless you have something to show for, there has to be original mesh in your store, some brands expect you to have rigged clothes as well..

Another thing that is very important, MD meshes are far from finished product, those meshes are used as base shape and are supposed to be retopologized in Blender, Maya or 3ds Max where you also can add other details and rig your models. Apart from poor topology, MD UVs are barely usable as is, they need to be rearranged and at times stitched using above mentioned software to optimize texture usage and have a nice clean result in the end..

Blender 2.8+ is very different from earlier versions and yes 2.8 Avastar is not yet fully finished, nevertheless, you should definitely go with the latest software, by the time you learn the basics, Avastar will be ready...

All this and more has been covered in previous threads, you will surely benefit from looking into and reading through those...also, good luck!

  2. I find that incredibly tacky, unprofessional and cheap, so definitive NO. There is a cost to running a business, no matter what you do and you should look at it as initial investment.

I think you need to work on that skin some more tho and  I don`t mean to offend, but it does look unfinished...second and very important part is presentation, look into materials and lighting and play around with windlight settings...

Most skins on the market atm have been made by blending real life stock photos and hand painted parts, it adds a lot more realism...Please don`t take this the wrong way, but  I think you should spend some more time learning and practicing....not sure why you insist in putting this up for sale as is?

as an old saying goes:  "you will never have a second chance to make the first impression"

  3. With mesh heads and bodies it really comes down to 3rd party support, if creators offer enough content for some brand, that brand is likely to be more popular...unfortunately that does not always mean the best meshes are also the most supported. Personally I do not find Genus best, my current top choice is LeLutka Evolution line, the only true BoM mesh head/s on the market

Speaking of dev kits, not sure where you got the idea that some charge for dev kits? That is 100% incorrect. You can literally pick up dev kits for free in store or web site, depending on brand, I believe only Catwa has their dev kit with the purchase and you couldn`t get it separately, but that may have changed since I got mine years ago...Even mesh kits are not sold, you are supposed to apply for it and  anyone who has a store with enough original stuff on display is likely to get it...

Edit: LeLutka Evo heads got released before Genus released new heads and they took off instantly, so it is unfair to say the only reason for their popularity is Genus being off the market for a month. Evo line is as I said the only true BoM head, they also introduced HD lipstick and eyeshadow and listened to our suggestions we sent some time ago.  They also recognized materials are finally getting proper attention and understanding and you get about 8x2 different effects with the default HUD.. LeLutka set the standard when it comes to what a good HUD looks like and kept innovating with each next release. LeLutka Evo heads are the first to have a seamless Legacy fit. Oh and their appliers and dev kits are fantastic and easy to work with....it`s only fair to give credit where credit is due...

I don`t take many pics, but here is my bare face challenge photo: LeLutka Evolution Erin

  4. Number of materials and actual material names have to be the same for mesh and LOD models, btw by materials I mean a multi-sub material with just diffuse texture for each "face"....If  parts of mesh are removed for lower LODs and it resulted in one or more faces completely gone, leave a triangle somewhere representing that material...

For Max users, naming matters, material names should not have any special characters, weird letters (i.e. đ,ž,č) or spaces....

Physic doesn`t have to have material assigned to it.

Just merging meshes will not resolve the error in question if said mesh has more then one face.

  5. Judging by shoulder shape, yes, it is Maitreya body, when it comes to head  it is hard to tell as all  photos are frontal, no side view......If you are looking into replicating this look/style, it really comes down to skin and shape,  best to get a bunch of demos (skins and heads) and see what works best before buying anything.....

  6. I would suggest opening your files in Blender, pose it the way it suits you best for modeling (i.e. A or T pose) then export BODY ONLY, without the rig as .obj,  open MD and import your .obj as avatar and done!

If for some reason you want to import rigged body, please check Cathy Foil @Youtube, video 1 and 2 of her "Rigging series" explain how to set up the file so you can import avatar+rig to MD...btw this is not possible with older version of MD so make sure your version supports this option!

  7. Hair on the left is by "barberyumyum" , but you can find similar @ Monso, Navy & Cooper, Doux etc...second hair looks like "Tableau Vivant", "Truth" also has something similar , "Tram" offers tons of updo-s and shorter styles....Dress I am not 100% but looks like something you could find @ Pixicat,  Ison, Tres Blah or maybe F.D. (Fashionably Dead)...

Regarding hairbase, I would recommend "Tableau Vivant", they offer various styles of natural looking hand-drawn hairbases sold in classic color packs...btw, some stores  i.e. Magika, Navy & Cooper, Doux etc create so called "alpha hair" with very realistic looking hairline which makes hairbase obsolete, definitely worth demo-ing at least...

    Hope this helps:)

  8. Your web site has a lot of explanation and charts and not one single decent photo , once I enlarged those few tiny pics you do provide in HUD tutorial section, body and head look awfully lot like SL default avatar, wireframe is identical..care to explain?

  9. I have a couple of suits that correspond to the look in question,  my all time favorites are created by PixicatHotdogHotdog2 and COCO, COCO2.....Coco and Pixicat offer multiple sizes but Hotdog supports only Maitreya (unless something changed in the meantime), considering their model covers up entire body, you can just hide it with alpha HUD..

  10. I`m assuming you are using mesh hair on top of applier hairbase? If that`s the case, you have 2 options...Find a no-alpha hair or hairbase-friendly (some creators actually pay attention to detail and don`t use alpha textures for mesh edges to prevent alpha glitch) this might be a problem tho as most hair creators seem to be switching to alpha hair exclusively...so the other solution is to switch from appliers to BoM/bakes on mesh...I`m not sure if Catwa fully adapted her product to BoM like LeLutka did,  I do know there is a relay HUD that allows you to use BoM instead of appliers...This is definitely worth looking into as BoM allows you to wear 30+ textures on the same mesh face (you could easily stack hairbase, beard, eyebrows, tattoos etc with just adding a BoM layer, no fiddling with appliers and selecting/enabling/disabling destination layer/head part etc) and would resolve alpha glitch once and for all!

  11. Edit: I seem to have misunderstood...thought you`re asking in Max

I bought quite a few door scripts as I can`t do it my self and in the end the best thing I found was Kool Door script, it works without hinge and for any type of door, cupboard etc...in case you get frustrated trying to do it yourself

  12. Legacy is SLUV compatible, so you should be fine using default maps...You can download their templates from official web site, but as there are no maps, just bits and pieces and considering you are interested in creating tattoos, you should be fine with SLUVs alone...

btw, I`ve slowly been updating my products with BoM and have tested on Legacy, there were no issues and no adjustment needed, especially not for tattoos....texture seemed a bit scrunched at the waist section on the back, but again, it won`t create any problems for tattoos

Edit: Just seen your reply, for application, they offer dev kit with applier script (and instructions how to make one) in the body folder, not sure if it comes with a demo...I`d definitely include BoM layers which are easy to make (new clothing/new tattoo and select your texture/name and done!)..

  13. I have only a couple bad reviews and it`s always ppl not knowing how to use the product or not reading the description or wishing something else was included...for example, one bad review is: Product is great and works great, but there is no white color included - she knocked of 2 stars cause of that even tho there are pictures with all colors shown and obviously no white...another one says the applier is not working-gave me 1 star, I sent my self the same product from MP, tested it and it works, it was probably lag on their part..

What I do in such situations is leave a reply with proof of their claims being unfounded/false, for example, applier not working, I made a gyazo gif of using said applier and textures being applied successfully,...I don`t contact ppl in world, if they feel like review section was the best way to communicate I`ll assume it`s their preference and reply there...

and yes, removing false bad reviews should be an option, but I believe as long as you reply and prove the product is indeed as described and functional, in a respectful way ofc, it will not deter new customers...

  14. I tried it on and it is correct, the only thing different is breast shape, if there is any other difference on the body it is too subtle to notice, I actually took a pic of both bodies, same skin, same shape, same pose, superimposed those 2 and yep, identical sans breasts... Anyways, I don`t have a problem with them releasing "new" body, they did it already with pregnancy.. What I do have a problem with is the fact they released 2 more bodies INSTEAD of addressing issues of the first one and I`m talking about terrible neck seam...I tried every single mesh head on the market, I tested it with skins made by some of the best, detail oriented skin makers (i.e. YSYS, Skinnery, Amara beauty, Session) and seam was there, just for the record every other body and head on the market, well at least major players, managed to achieve seamless connection and mentioned skin makers have made seamless skins no matter what your combination of meshes might be..They sent an update recently, but the seam is still there...I asked in official group how to fix the seam and they suggested turning Advanced Lighting OFF!

I do believe creators are entitled to ask any price they want or release any number of similar products.....that said, they definitely are responsible for providing promised updates and support cause many ppl buy products based on that promise of follow up fixes and on-going support. Most brands (especially big ones) in SL keep on updating their products within reasonable time frame and offering said updates fee of charge (bento, BoM), Legacy should do the same!

I applaud them on impeccable PR campaign, if only they put half the effort in fixing what needs to be fixed, we`d have a winner as the body is really beautiful

@Mollymews you keep defending their right to run business as they please and I agree, but at the same time, we/customers/potential customers have the right to disagree with their policy, question their motives, complain about price and so on...that`s how freedom works

    • Batch renaming of inventory items
    • Ability to add prefix or suffix on upload
    • Setting up permissions for multiple items at once
    • Orthographic view with a grid option

Uploader general overhaul  so the system rewards optimizing (which is not the case atm)..they should also correct upload prices, for example one texture of any size  and a mesh of cca 2k triangles cost 10L$ and those two do not affect viewer performance the same way...Textures should be cheaper, i.e. 1-2 L$ and mesh upload should be  based on file size, triangle count etc so a simple cube does not cost the same as 2k triangles mesh...and yes I know, dream on lol, but the question is what I`d like to see and this is it!

  15. Here are a few shows I enjoyed watching: The Expanse, Altered Carbon,  Origin, See, Picard, The Witcher, Pennyworth, Black Mirror, His Dark Materials, The Man in the High Castle...and a few shows that aren`t scifi/fantasy: Taboo, Peaky Blinders, Endeavour, Vikings...oh almost forgot, Love, Death & Robots, animated series

Barbarians Rising documentary series that really stood out to me, visually compelling and historically accurate

If you want to have a laugh check out FutureMan and The Tick

  16. If your goal is to create some software mesh body brands and supporting creators would benefit from, you can always contact brand owners/managers directly? Same goes for Avastar ppl, if you think you can contribute in some way, get in touch, introduce your self,  elaborate your plan, explain your intentions, show samples of your work etc... That`s how business is conducted, isn`t it?

  17. You can only export SL default body.....sadly there are ways to export your 3rd party mesh body but that`s illegal and just wrong...I`d stick with dev kits, you get all you need for creating mesh clothes..

IN order to get the kit, you are expected to already own a store and have something to show for, also clean track record (no previous DMCA complaints)...They are essentially giving away something they worked hard developing in good faith expecting ppl won`t abuse that trust which is why they have to be selective...that said, it`s much easier today then it`s been when mesh bodies first hit the grid...My advice would be, create a few items just for show and re-submit your request...Start with Slink, Belleza and then Maitreya and Legacy...I believe Tonic and Signature are the easiest to obtain...

  18. If you plan on creating skins, they have to be brand specific...sure BoM allows us to apply any texture to any head, but even tho they are SLUV compatible, how textures look once applied to each face differ and  A LOT....I would suggest regular dev kits which can be found either in demo boxes, stores or official web sites, you will get their UVs ( superimpose with LL UV for comparison if needed), plus creators  add other helpful bits...

You can do a rough sketch using SL basic head and use it to work over seams then fine tune using specific UVs and ofc you are definitely going to have to test a lot, especially first time, it takes a while to learn how UV stretches and what potential problem areas are for each brand...Some do offer 3D models, but for that you need to be established creator with good track record (i.e. no DMCA complaints), share your real life info and sign a legally binding document.

If on the other hand you are creating make up, then UVs are more then enough and unlike skins, you will be able to reuse same textures across brands (for the most part, lipstick won˙t work for example)...

anyways, I`m late to the party, but this might help someone else:)

  19. I couldn`t disagree more, there has never been so much variety and abundance...you should steer clear from top selling pages on MP cause of all the full perm recolors clutter (which definitely gives impression of SL fashion being dead and buried) while some of the best stores don`t even use MP or use it sparsely, i.e. for older items only....Browsing Seraphim SL top events and certain Flickr groups proved to be great source of info for me and a way to not just catch up with latest releases but also find hidden gems I`d most likely not have found otherwise!

Here are a few brands worth checking out: Ison, Pixicat, Coco, Toksik, Amitomo, Fashioably Dead/F.D., Tres Blah, Mimikri, RKKN, Native Urban, Kitja, Tetra, Hotdog etc

  20. I`m a Max user and I will admit that latest version of Blender is really great, you won`t go wrong with it, they evolved and adapted to industry standards and offer a variety of features, not to mention overwhelming support in terms of tutorials, plug-.ins etc...just to be clear, f you asked this question 2 years ago, I`d say go with Maya or Max, but  Blender 2.8+ definitely made all the right steps in the right direction, plus it`s free..

Speaking of how hard it is to learn, difficulty level is basically the same, no matter which one you pick...I suggest starting with the very basics, please don`t start in the middle as most do, you can thank me later!

  21. This is bad UV mapping and I`ve seen  A LOT of that with full perm mesh...there are so many new full perm stores and it is painfully obvious they are literally just learning...The approach 99.9% new creators have is: 1. create a mesh in Marvelous Designer, 2. rig in Avastar, 3. sell...Needless to say, they skipped at least 2. steps a professional would incorporate (optimize mesh/retopo and fix UV mapping)...Stretching can also be caused by sloppy rigging  (usually occurs between legs, under arm, shoulders, front and back mid section of longer skirts/dresses etc)

If your business is based on full perm mesh, I would suggest to buy only meshes that include a textured sample as well as UV map sample in the DEMO (for example, CBB and Underground demos include this), it will save you a lot of trouble down the road with texturing and also prevent you from wasting Linden on meshes you won`t end up selling in your store...

Edit: When it comes to just a tiny bit of stretching along one axis, you can compensate for that with your textures (make pattern more dense for affected areas)...

  22. My favorite HUD script is Material Changer by Bosch, it has literally no limits in what can be done and yes, what you asked about, that too...written instructions as well as working example are included in the package which makes figuring things out quite easy and fast..Last but not least,, creator is the most helpful store owner I`ve encountered in SL, not only did he answer my question but sent a modified script to fit my personal needs  in less then 24 hours..(I purchased two different scripts, he combined options I wanted to have in one script-no extra charge!!)
