Idk if you meant for it to or not but your comments came off as quite snarky and I really don't understand why. I wasn't attacking you, I wasn't offering a fix all, I was just adding to a conversation as that's what forums are for.

I wasn't stating that I've found skins that work to brag, I was stating that I've found skins to express that it is possible to find some you just have to dig sometimes.

I still have almost everything I ever bought, and multiple copies of the copy items, every time I try to take my boat out it sinks and gets returned to me, adding one more copy to the growing collection, same thing with my airplane, ect, ect. i went mesh around Christmas but I still have hundreds of outfits in the old system layers, even though i do not use layers for anything other then tattoos anymore. And of course when I buy something now it comes with a Maitreya version I use, plus Slink, TMP, the 5 standard sizes, and all that I never bother to get rid of the ones i don't actually use. Of course this last practice did lead to me finding some things in my old inventory I could use with my new avi.

And that's a good thing! I think it's gone to a somewhat unhealthy obsession for me to try to get my inventory down as far as I can while maintaining all the things I want to keep. I think about 5,000 could be unwanted gacha items too.

I tend to be like that as well, especially for brands. I can almost always recall where I bought something and that is often enough to narrow down to what I need.

I can remember certain things but if possible I also try to add a keyword to the end of my item folder like "Christmas" so that if I go looking through search it can easily be found.

LOL. Well  thanks but having to use a particular Windlight setting (note my moniker tag) really doesn't fix the issue and pretty much negates creative efforts. We need skins that look good and MATCH in any Windlight :D.    That might be helpful for some folks who don't care how others see them and just want a nice profile picture though!

As a photographer lighting is everything for me! I have noticed various skins have this issue but it still stands that shadows can create unwanted effects. This is why so many people still wear face lights even though keeping your wind light at a certain setting can be beneficial and negate the need for one.

I think at this time I have about 10 good skins from various stores that do not require a specific wind light setting.

it's not that difficult, make a good working folder structure for yourself

for example ( guys inventory!) headfolder Clothes/ subfolders: jeans-jackets-shirts-t shirts-long sleeved shirts-swimwear-underwear-nightwear- ..and so on...

I have a system for sure but I got lazy a few months back and now have a nightmare on my hands. Why I do this to myself, I'll never know.

Before I took my long break from SL, I was running at just under 100k -- I absolutely loved shopping and hunts. [...]

I'm now down to around 45k, but I know there is still tons that will get trashed soon, never to even have been worn a single time.

WOW -- congrats on getting it down so far! That's really impressive. I need to continue going through my "sort" folder and getting rid of things that I haven't worn in forever or never worn at all.

When i got to over 15,000 it became so obnoxious to find anything so i spent hours organizing it by making folders such as clothing, furniture, artwork, outdoor stuff, etc.,and then went through and put everything in it's appropriate folder and now as i buy things after i unpack them i for the most part try to put them in the correct folder right away. Sometimes i slack but after a few days of shopping will eventually catch up and i must say it makes finding what i need so much faster.

My best friend does this with her inventory as well. She goes on a lot more hunts than I do but we have around the same number. She's got a better management system than I do for sure.

I tend to hover in the 30-40K range. I use the CTS Wardrobe tool and as a result am fairly constantly organizing things. I do shop a lot but keep it well processed and cleaned out. Over the past year or so I have removed first all of my old system clothing and then more recently been removing anything that is not fitted mesh. The result has been a fairly static inventory count even though I still shop quite often.

:o what is this tool you speak of?! I feel like I need this in my life!

Haha! Can I employ you to help me with my inventory? The goal is to get it down to 35K possibly tonight. Wish me luck!

It's sometimes hard for me to part with stuff because I sit there staring at it like, "Yeah but I spent REAL money on this." This is why my inventory is a mess at the moment. That and the gifts from events and whatnot. Send help. xD

  11. I was looking at another topic and it made me think. How many items does everyone have in their inventory? Do you try to keep it cleaned up or do you just let it go?

I personally have 37,000+ items at the moment but I try to keep it clear of notecards, landmarks, textures, scripts, and unpacking poses I don't need or use. I went through and deleted all of my system layers and skins (nothing against those that use them!) because I went all mesh. I also have a system of organizing that I tend to stick to and try to regularly sort items.

I just thought it'd be interesting to see how others manage their inventory and how many times they have .:)

No, it's still alive.  It is marked as Unresolved in the JIRA.  Take a look. It's an annoyingly random bug, and very difficult to get around, once you bump into it.  The best way I know of is to get someone to eject you from the group, and then log in.  If you own the group, that can be almost impossible without appealing to LL with a support case.

Firestorm is not immune.   See http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/login_fail

Wow! Yeah I have never seen this bug. I've been playing for a little over 7 years and have had various special characters in group tags (owned or not) that have never given me fits. I guess I'm lucky!

    Thanks for the insight Rolig!

I've upset folks before by using legacy names.  I was informed that they had set a display name for a reason - for it to be used.  Since I don't use display names, I wasn't sure how to react or if that was the norm or not.  Since then though, I always try to use the display name if it is set.

Really? That's so crazy to me! I suppose people can get offended for less.

See this JIRA >>>>  Group created possibly involves "invalid character" preventing Login.

It's a long-standing problem, well recognized by experienced SL residents.

Ah! Thank you for providing the link. It doesn't appear that there have been reports of this bug for several years, so that's good. I'm unsure of the dedicated secondlife viewer version (I exclusively use Firestorm) but perhaps this has been fixed?

In my personal experience.. my annoyances with it comes from hosting and trying to greet a few people arriving at once and deciphering their names as fast as I can before they leave as "nobody greeted"    (Mostly caused by my slowness due to new meds for a past brain infection)

That makes sense. I see a lot of people greet using legacy names though. I have a less than everyone friendly display name and people tend to use my legacy name over that. Sorry about your condition though ):

Skin appliers typically don't match the "underneath" body texture and so you get a line even when using the "same" skin made by the same creator. I am guessing that this is because the meshes (the legacy avatar IS mesh too in a 3D sense) take the texture differently. So unless you want to wear a choker all the time covering that line, you need a mesh head :D.

If you're on firestorm use a windlight setting such as *Canimod. Sometimes it's your windlight setting creating weird shadows.

I'd ask you to reconsider your decision.  Display Names that use special characters are hugely annoying to those around you, especially if they want to communicate with you.  They can't call you by name, unless they happen to have the same special characters handy and are willing to take the time to use them.  They can't pronounce your name in their heads, making it harder to remember you.  And if you use those characters in certain situations (for example, as a group tag) it can block you from logging in.

Your attitude that "I don't care what others think" is commendable in one sense; it's good that you have the strength of character to be willing to go your own way.  But in another sense, it demonstrates a lack of consideration for your fellow residents that may make it difficult for you to make friends.  Think about it.

I don't think I have ever had an issue with logging in due to a group tag having special characters in it. That does not make sense to me. If you have proof to back that up I will concede but I just don't think that's true as I have created multiple group tags with special characters.

As for how display names with special characters are "hugely annoying to those around you", who is annoyed? I'm certainly not. Maybe if you only have display names showing that could be mildly frustrating but that's not the other person's problem really. Seems like that would only effect the person getting "hugely annoyed". I've never had an issue with display names not allowing me to communicate with someone either as it's their legacy name that matters in search anyway.

I guess I'm a little confused on your experiences. -shrugs-
