Well, Sassy; if I was exhibiting pictures of adult form (I have some, which I did make with a conscent) I would have deleted them at instant. Simply because I can imagine if one has a business it could be potentially harmful. This doesn't make it any more logical that they are in a public club rather than a private "premium" club, but would allow me to have more understanding. The girls that are complaining in particular, have been displayed in upmost decency. Pictures that could be shown to children essentially. I don't see the big issue, unless they are hiding something from their partners or any monkey business in such category.. I have tried explaining this and communicating in civil ways. Should this be a case of "some people just are a little off"? I'm worried I may be the bad wolve in this, and I myself like to keep a clean reputation myself.

It's the availability as compared to women's fashion that should ideally expand, but of course that takes us right back to many creator's counterargument that they don't bother because men are a much smaller clientele. I happen to think it's a bit of a vicious-circle argument, because even if it's true to some extent, it's also true that a much narrower offer makes it more difficult for many men to find exactly what they want. As a whole, though, I think the market balances itself naturally. I agree with the fact the market for female avatar has more conversion juice. It's merely out of business perspective there is hardly any stores that offer male clothing on subjects of normal fashion, instead of leather and so forth extreme topics. It's business, but unfair.
  3. Tamara Artis wrote: Contact the owner of the club and ask what is their opinion about you posting photos taken in their club? Be smart and point to the fact that your photos could be a promotion to their venue (even if you did not bother to submit them to any groups or got any significant number of views/comments/favorites). I would consider using more polite words in the description - mentioning a manager's a$$ is not really polite. I didn't look further than first few photos but there is one question that bothers me, did they really got offended just because you posted these photos or you did something else? It looks like there is another side of the story that needs to be listened too. In general, you need to check in "About land" section to see do they forbid snapshots on a certain parcel, if not you can freely take snapshots and post them. But, as someone already said, it is wise not to get yourself involved in drama and if a person is asking you to take down something, do it. Its not like you can't go to some other place and take more photos, right? Dear Tamara, I agree with your point on politeness. I have thusfar stayed professional and controlled in my answers despite their aggro. I have spoken with one of the managers previously when I was taking pictures (timelapsed over various days). She said it was fine. The rules and land don't prohibit it either. It appears to be coming from individuals out of personal morale. On notes of "something else", I can assure you the posting of the pictures has been the only part of the conflict. An e-mail I received (offline IM): "You are violating my privacy outside of sl. You are rude. I will warn everyone about you. You are disrespecting me, my sl and my rl. I did not ask you to take them. I will pursue this with Flickr and LL who does suggest you ask permission. You did not. You do not even know me. You are an ugly rude little man. Its my image, my avatar, not your property. Rude, rude, rude, rude, rude. You did not spend any time. You snapped them in the club. Liar, liar, liar."

Or you could just tell them that they are "talking out of their arse" Pick one of the above, both work. For maximum effect, Stefanosje could tell them he's going to photograph them talking out of their arse. That'll show 'em! ON POINT! Hahahahaha. Chuckled. On a serious note though. I do respect their point of view, just their approach is wrong and if they are so paranoïd about appearing in pictures, they need to consider finding a more secluded/private club. It's like taking a **bleep** in the park and complaining that people are looking at your naked butthole.
  5. Hi Karoline, I'm not interested in your styling, but I will be sure to follow you on Flickr when I get home. Your pictures are amazing, it's almost like a SL Tumblr. Hah! Oh by the way, it may be interesting for you to connect with merchants and see if they could commission you for direct sales. 1.000L$ is quite a number for a single outfit, when you have to spend another 5.000L$ actually buying the item. You might be able to broaden your audience by taking commission money rather than fee, simply because the money comes from the sale and not the customer. But that's just the marketeer talking. I'm a fan already! Stef
  6. Alyxen wrote: Long story short. I have what people say is a great store with great items. Problem: Business parnter leaving due to health issues. No one comes in to the store unless I have rediculous 50L sales. I create full perm HQ Mesh and Textures, have great items, and currently advertise in like 5 groups. I currently get like 2-3 people a day if I am lucky (and it isnt a crazy sale). Am I missing something huge or something? Thanks for any help or suggestions. Dear Alyxen, Depending on your market, SL is a saturated market. There is nothing ridicilous about 50L sales. In fact the most popular SL fashion stores sell their products around 200- max 500L$. I can't judge your product unless you post a link, which would be convenient. However you have to realise, bringing avatars to your in-world store is really tough. Most people shop using marketplace, and when they do visit a store it is mainly to preview items they couldn't see properly or sufficiently on pictures (ex: houses). My advice to you would be to focus on Marketplace. It doesn't cost anything other than commission but sales are practically guaranteed. Also, are you displaying your items properly? Good pictures with prices and perms on it? Are the objects placed in a tactical position within the store? Stef.
  7. Monti Messmer wrote: Yes that´s true but! offended people (or only if they feel so) can do alot harm to you or just cause major pain/troubles. You cannot name avatars on the official forums but outside you can do whatever you feel. We had some big drama going on even stick to that rules 100%. My rule is never use names no matter where and if someone asks to remove the picture i just blurr their faces. Works perfect in RL so should do for SL. This way you can keep the pictures online without destroy them. After all the years on SL (avoiding other social media platforms like the pest) i learned to only have the good drama ;-) Monti Hi Monti, Sensible advice! It's within my decency to remove pictures based on the desire of not having their avatar on a page they have no control of. However A part of my picture library consist of pictures from one specific area. Meaning I would lose 1/3rd of all my photographs. I strongly feel an arrangement should come from the club's management, which in the end of the day is responsible for the protection and boundaries of their workers. At this point I have already upped to one of the dancers, I won't mind taking them down if they consider doing a little contribution to the loss of content I would have, including some upload costs made when some of the subjects in my pictures wanted the images for in-world use such as profiles. Which is something I feel is more than appropriate of me, to be flexible with their policy and have understanding for the moral objections. At least now I know it is 90% sure, I was in my legal right to take these pictures. Which sets me free from the "I WILL HAVE YOU ARRESTED IRL!"-aggro thrown at me. I will contact their manager and see if there is a civil way out of this. Else, as you mentioned, I may make some parody from this and give them a criminal "eyebar" sensor and reupload them as such. I can appreciate a little humor. Thank you for your care and reading. Stef.
  8. Dear Charessa, Tamara has given you a good kick-off on behalfs on the basics. Personally, I think it is all about strategy. You need to take your marketing as serious as your content creation. You don't have to be a professional, but you can be self-aware about your campaigns. You should keep close eye on your statistics and desires of customers. Most sensible to me seems holding the boat with vendors and in-game shops. They are often pricey and (often) at disappointing rates. It's great for branding and physical presence, but not a core requirement for your store. I would start off with a marketplace shop. You don't need anything for it other than your products. Have a logo drawn up or make one yourself, a banner and you're done. As long as you post your products with care, well written descriptions and use of keywords it will sell itself. Once you've gained a daily rate of sales, you should consider putting out some vendors or a store. As long as you stick to one rule: It's extra, not make or break. When you invest your own money in opening a store in-world, it automatically puts you in a red number. Your money and will run out at some point. Make it self-proficient. Even if that means not having a fancy jewelry store in-game for a good while in the beginning. It took around 1,5 weeks for my store to get running. I played with priced. Started at 1L$ and threw it up to around 199L$ with the popular items at 299 and 399L$. I noticed I reached the top value I could ask for my products. Higher than that resulted in immediate downs on sales, aside the normal expected sales drop (less people buy expensive things; logical). If you feel you don't have time to put extensive time in: creating pictures for the store and editing them, copywriting long descriptions and coming up with keywords, brand promotion etc. then it might be worth hiring a marketeer. Please be careful though. Don't let them take commissions without performing. Take someone you know is qualified and can show clear proof of the work they've done and the result is has lead to. That should get you started, if you need any future advice do IM me. Feel free.
  9. StriveDesigns wrote: I have had an issue with my store's reports since the end of April. At first I thought it was just a glitch in the system and that it would straighten itself out in a few days, but none of the items I have listed since April 28th appear in the "Top Searched" reports, it simply shows a "0" (zero) for every single item from that date on. And yet it shows on the "Top Selling" report as how many times it's been viewed and purchased. I know that when you search certain items they DO appear because I've seen some of my own things show up when I have searched things for my own shopping spree. Is anyone else having this problem? Or is that now defunct option? Or does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your help! -Strive Hiya Strive, As with a lot of features in Marketplace, it is safe to conclude the reporting system lacks. Thus why I strongly recommend switching to ANS (channeling your sales data to your own system/website). I, personally developped a dashboard for my own store that draws charts for me and shows me sales stats in an extend Marketplace would never. It also works on tablet and phone, so I can check it in the train. I have a big list of bugs on my name for MP, but I doubt it is there first priority. If you ask me, LL should put a seperate team that focusses solely on MP now that stores become more rare in-world. Stef.
  10. Monti Messmer wrote: According to the second part, i wouldn´t say you can use their names and the part of "recognizable", even without the nametag showing, is a tricky one. RL photographers know about this funny law, it´s exact same there just no one has a nametag or walks around as a giant furry ;-) If the main part of your picture shows a crowd of people in a public venue, without focussing on single avatars, that should be safe. Monti Hi Monti, I'm partially aware of the real laws to photography and the requirement of handling the people present in the picture. However I am going to stick with the Linden Lab rules, as this is the environment the picture was taken in, and Flickr only serves as a displaying utility. The way I read the ToS is that LL has made a clear distinction between Machinima (video) and snapshots (pictures). They seem to free-ward all rights on snapshots, which pretty much leaves no boundaries other than following sim/land covenants. What is your call on this? As with many LL regulations it creates a lot of controversy and room for different "interpretations". Stef
  11. Dear Elizabeth10, It's nice to see you aspire to become a photographer. It is a great art which allows you to put a lot of personality and unique palettes of your own talents in your work. I am a hobbyist photographer myself. I only do it for matters of fun and recording fun moments in SL. I don't mind spending some time training you for as far as the techniques I know. I'm not as specialized as Theda Wytchwood (awesome tutorial by the way, miss), but I do have the time and passion on my hands to help you get started a bit. My main strength is the use of appropriate angles of taking pictures. That is the base you're working on. Making the camera love an avatar really does half the picture for you. I apply some filters and blur when the background's not favorable, but other than that there's not much editing involved. The reason I prefer my method to Theda's (with all respect and loves to her), is because I am not staging models. I go out to random sims and just take pictures. I'm going to run through Theda's advice myself, and see if I can combine the two. But if you'd like to learn some freestyle photographing, I don't mind showing you the ropes. Some examples of my pictures are on this Flickr page. Feel free to take a look. I won't be offended if I am not on a level of learning you desire to pull up to. The picture I made for my own avatar, is probably my favorite. ^ Note to moderator: I hope my link to my Flickr isn't interpreted as advertising. I am trying to help this resident thus I hope it'll be read in such context. Drop me an IM if you'd like to gather up sometime. Stef.
  12. Hello Mylie, I would strongly recommend explaining or showing the products you sell. The first thing you want to consider finding store rentals is whether the place suits your products. Chances are not too great you're going to achieve selling barbies in a star wars sim. Could you be more elaborate about your quest of finding a store?
  13. Dear Suicide, "Male fashion" is a big understand. However there is one big call on this subject: male fashion is one of the least exploited areas of SL marketplace. Most clothing for male residents apply to themes, mainly biker/grunge and so forth. Only a rare few fashion boutiques try to pioneer in the fashionate world of male avatars. Male fashion is a very disappointing factor of SL, at least for me, and it has tempted me to create a female avatar just for the fun of customizing my character in-world. Mesh is great, but only if it's done properly. In the past I have bought products that came in 8 different sizes ranging from XXXS to XXXL, all great. But they designed the mesh in a way it would never fit my avatar. I had to purchase some weird body piece to cover up from pants to navel. Simply because it was created with a female bodyshape in mind. This particular boutique existed of 99% female clothes, and this was probably an experiment to them. An experiment costing me L$2.999. The details were great but just poorly suited. I've published a blog about the lack of male fashion a while ago. Anyways, I think I like to pay around 200-600L$ max. Those are purchases I make with ease. Purchases from above 600L$ would go under a microscope and only be bought if they are something I really want badly. That may just be me being a cheapskate. But I know from my fellow Dutchmen they feel the same. It is all about your targets, product features and quality. Stef.
  14. Sassy Romano wrote: Read the ToS section on machinima. It's explained there. Dear Sassy, You're always present to come at help for those in need aren't you?! smiles. I've looked into the ToS once more (Linden wiki) and found the following: (a) Land Owner Consent for Snapshots and Machinima If you wish to take a snapshot or capture machinima of content on another Resident’s land, then: For Snapshots, check whether the covenant for the land prohibits snapshots. If it does, then you need special permission from the land owner to take the snapshot. If it allows snapshots or doesn’t address them, then you do not need special permission from the land owner as long as you comply with any terms that may be in the covenant. For Machinima, check whether the covenant for the land allows machinima. If it does not or doesn’t address machinima, then you need special permission from the land owner to capture machinima. If it allows machinima, then you do not need special permission from the land owner as long as you comply with any terms that may be in the covenant. For Mainland or Linden Homes parcels where Linden Lab is the estate owner, you do not need land owner consent to take snapshots, but you do need special permission from the land owner to capture machinima. The “land owner” is not the estate owner, but the Resident identified as the land owner in the “General” tab under “About Land.” For private islands where Residents are estate owners, you must check the covenant for the private island as provided above. (b) Avatar Consent for Machinima For machinima, you must have the consent of all Residents whose avatars or Second Life names are featured or recognizable in the machinima. This includes avatars who are featured in a shot, avatars whose names are legible, and avatars whose appearance is sufficiently distinctive that they are recognizable by members of the Second Life community. Consent is not required if an avatar is not recognizable and is merely part of a crowd scene or shown in a fleeting background. Consent is not required for any snapshots. If I have read this correctly (English is not my native language, let alone LL law-talk), I am in my right to create snapshots of avatars using snapshots without consent, as long as I stick to the land/venues rules and convenant? Thus is exactly what I have done. According to this ToS, I would even be allowed to mention their names, which I have not done out of sincere privacy respects. Can I conclude these people are pushing it too far, and are not aware of the rules their own club has set in concerns to protecting their members to their privacy?
  15. Dear friends, In the past I have been photographing, which I have recently picked up again using Flickr. I enjoy taking time out to take photographs of avatars. In particular random non-posed shots. Recently a friend invited me to a moderate club she works at. This club had a lot of avatars with pretty skins. They have to earn money so they put effort and lindens into refining their avatar characteristics, unlike a lot of recreational avatars. The club has no rules on parts of photography and appears to be keep a public regiment. Pictures taken there, are within decency. They show no nudity at all. They are mainly pictures of faces, some showing their clothes too. Again: no nudity. Most pictures are within bounds of general content, as they are not taken from a sexually tainted perspective nor do they reflect this. Most of the people that have visited my Flickr agree with this on me. Anyways to get to my question: lately I have been receiving multiple threats and warrants, with the demand I take their avatars pictures down. The threats include destroying my business, IRL lawsuits and what not. I do not take them serious as-in the degree they say they will, considering they are only dancers and I doubt will sue me over 4-5 pictures on Flickr. Either way, I profit not from anything I post on Flickr and post them only out of hobbyism. What are my rights in extend of keeping and displaying the pictures? What is the context of "privacy" which was thrown at me in one of the accusations? I've told them off by letting them know it is not me but them, whom signed up to work in a public, photography allowing club. If I have been unjust by this determination, I would like to find out and correct myself to my unintentionally inflicted "victims". I take a lot of time in taking and processing these shots, taking them down would mean I would have to empty my Flickr (I have around 70 pictures of random avatars across the grid). On a side note: none of the avatars on the pictures are mentioned or tagged with their name in SL. The pictures show nothing that could identify the club and allow people to trace them down. They are merely faded-background shots with avatar appearances. Thank you in advance for anyone reading this. I hope someone has an answer to this matter.
  16. SL has been my home for quite a while. 2.759 days to be exact. I count them, not because I hate SL, but because I love it. I've been developing as a programmer for most of my time. And a while ago, I was introduced by a friend to Gaia Clary's awesome tutorials on rigging mesh. I started practicing 3D modelling more and more. We aim to create quality products, that are of high standard and put a smile to a residents face when they have been twitching to buy that -slightly out of budget- product they so eagerly found. We sell various post-apocalypt decorations and complete mesh avatars. This is a growing collection if items I hope to continue to offer to residents, rich and poor. Our vacancy is open to a store manager. You are a talented marketeer with a sharp eye for business and innovation. You know your ways around SL and the opportunities it carries for advertisement and conversion. You strive to use modern marketing techniques such as conversion-attribution and sale strategy. Our team has recently employed an experienced e-mail marketeer and we hope to implement this with customers purchasing our products. Plenty to do in the near future. Primarily we need standard customer binding done such as via SL groups and so forth. 17. Hi Sassy, They are working but influctuently. I will continue to test this and may step to JIRA, although I don't think it'd make a difference. Thank you for your consistent support though.
  18. For a few days I've been using ANS now and have come to the conclusion it doesn't register purchases of multiple items under the same transaction ID. Why is this?
  19. Depending on the detail of the model, any half-decent 3D artist's prices are 30.000 linden and up. The average hourly wage of a prof. With a touch of luck you'll find someone whom shares your visions or is a hobbyist and would help you for less.
  20. Thanks. But that means data such as amount of sales per customer have to be custom made rather then pull out of the ststem? I'm dissapointed in the limited reports views.
  21. Hi everyone, I am wondering if there is an API for Marketplace that can be used to bridge conversion and view data to my CRM. I am working on taking my shop to a next level by applying conv. attribution to my customers. It would save me a lot of time and money if I don't need an application nor server to hack into my account using cookie framing and JS hacks to log onto my account and download the csv for synchronization.   Stefan.
  22. We've yet found someone qualified and suiting for our position as store manager. Do apply if you feel you have the ability and knowledge to become a supreme leader to a blossoming shop filled with mesh itemry.
