I put on a unicorn and went dancing in space. Have never been to a furry sim. The unicorn looks like one that my daughter owns, ergo "stuffed toy" as far as I am concerned. Granted, it has teeny tiny bumps on its chest, but certainly no genitalia of any kind. An unnamed long term resident asked me if I knew I was violating TOS by being nude. I explained that I didn't know, thanked for the heads up and changed immediately. The response was well I don't care if you do furry or not. I still have your pic and I'm calling security. REALLY? For a stuffed toy??? I thanked her for her diligence, acknowledged that ignorance is no excuse, pointed out that I had already changed and wished her good evening. And she still managed to come back snarky because she felt that I needed to take into account that rezzing can be slow and people can't be expected to know that I have changed. Oh joy. Anyway, the point is....REALLY?? For a stuffed toy?? lol. Just sayin'....

Last comment and this thread can close I think. I thought about it. I believe that LL has their own cache, and when I did the sterilization and clean install I forced them to rebuild my account rather than to rely on prefetched stuff. (Yes, I am quite sure I just mangled a few techie ears, sorry for that). Anyway, the point is, still their fault, but clean install might be a fix for many things.

Thanks for the tips. I ended up putting on my OR kit and doing a surgical scrub of my system for anything even vaguely related to SL. Then I reinstalled Firestorm and although I did meet a guy today with holes under his eye sockets, the overall issue has gone away. My problem with the fix though, is that I logged in on two completely unrelated computers and had the identical problem. So why did a clean install fix it on my computer? It shouldn't have. It's a mystery. I will add that I logged into the other computer using a fresh install of SLV3, as that laptop was never before used for SL. Makes no sense that it's fixed, but I am happy to accept that it is.....

Hi, and thanks for the link. The fact that it is mostly 2009 stuff depresses me, but I shall try not to think it even possible that my problem is related because 2 years of no fix would have me doing a runner in utter despair, lol. That said, I don't think it is. My issue doesn't look like any of the pics in the link that you sent, since my entire avi plus every other avi fails to render correctly and is transparent or inky black. Now, like a creeping contagion, my sky and grass too. As I said, basic shading fixes it but it isn't really a fix. It's an inadequate workaround. Still hoping for someone to read this that has lived through it before and fixed it.

New development, good but I need to understand the mechanics behind it so techies feel free to discuss. As long as I have been in SL I have not used basic shaders, because my vid card is drek. In researching this issue at SL support, I came across the suggestion to disable basic shaders. This worked for that particular case. I went into my preferences to see if my basic shaders were checked somehow. Nope. So...of course, I checked it to see what would happen. Fixed everything. So, two questions: 1) Why would the same problem be fixed by doing two actions in exact opposition to each other? 2) Can I assume that this will recalibrate something? Given my vid card I would really prefer not to have to run basic shaders and up until just under a week ago I did not have to. (Edit: I have determined that basic shaders must now remain checked or I go invisible and/or black again. This is not cool, as I run my SL on mostly low settings. Any workaround would be MUCH appreciated.)

Ok. No problem with Inworldz, this is an SL problem only. I have invested so much time and care into getting comfortable in SL. I am really hoping someone has heard of this issue before and has a suggested resolution.

Actually I do know that Nicholsong uses Firestorm, so as far as I am concerned this is categorically not a viewer issue. Good thought though.

Generally I use SLV3 Sometimes it gets slow and then I use Phoenix, but it is SLV3 more often than not.

Ok, so I downloaded Firestorm and shortly after that I started having problems with my SL. Naturally I assumed it was Firestorm. Failing that, I thought it might be the driver upgrade I had done. I spent DAYS trying to roll back whatever had happened.No dice. I am attaching pics of the problem. In case my pics don't load, I will tell you that I am suffering with being transparent, except for attachments and sometimes completely black. First it was just me. Then it was every avatar. Now it is sky and grass as well, black as ink. First it was just Firestorm and Phoenix, now it is happening in SLV3 as well. Obviously this makes SL unusable for me. I thought it was the viewer, it happens on every one that I have tried. (*just realised I am on laptop and pics are not. Will have to add them later) Here's the kicker...mentally exhausted from figuring things with no luck, I log in with my son's laptop since he was not using it. Never used it for SL before and did a clean install of SL3. He games on it nonstop with no problem. And guess what? Oh...SAME PROBLEM!! Sorry for shouting but I am just so ticked. So...what could possibly be wrong with how LL sees my account that they should render me and increasingly my whole universe in inky black or invisible? Please note: Already cleared cache, restored settings to default, rolled back nvidia driver, reinstalled Viewer more than once plus a few other things I can't remember. Also tried GBoost to see if it is a resources issue, even though I have been on for months with no problems. Nope. GBoost is awesome but I am still black or invisible. Help me please or I shall have to quit second life, and that would make me sad. I will file a JIRA, but tomorrow. I am too mad to wrestle with that tonight. JIRA is hard to navigate for me. I'm not even sure what category I would file this under. Thanks in advance. I truly love SL and you guys are always so helpful, so your input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I just switched to Firestorm. Working great, except now I have an itermittent display issue, 3 really. 1. If I zoom to far from myself it is like I drop into shadow. 2. Sometimes I as well as all other avis disappear entirely except for prims. 3. Sometimes every avi in the room turns into a black silhouette, which may or may not include myself. I don't use dual monitors, have textures and VBO disabled because I am running an older Nvidia card....and I have no clue how to get Firestorm to behave. Suggestions? I will try running it with textures in the meantime. Thanks to all who venture a response. I do have shadows and textures disabled, and this issue does not occur in SLV3. It seems limited to Firestorm, less so in Phoenix and it also happens in Dolphin, which I tested to see if I could get around the problem.

Zanara, my apologies. My intention was not to say that you personally are leaning on the cap issue. Rather, it seems to be a default position in inworld discussions because it is passed around as the 'go to' explanation. My point was that it's hard to build up a head of steam for a new possibility in the face of that. this thread seems to be a good boost though as some excellent points, yours included, are being discussed. Perhaps it will now get the attention it needs.

I did discuss the cap system with Nicholsong. I believe he had done his housekeeping prior to making the bulk order since he was newly aware of it. I believe that part of his ire is that this is not the first time that he has experienced loss of inventory, it is that effectively his trust was misplaced as he, like others, put it down to a more benign and explainable sort of delivery issue. In my own case, I have had multiple different scenarios including offline purchases that categorically did not hit the cap. What would be the cause then? I do worry that leaning on the cap issue is an easy way to be misled into ignoring or dismissing a different and legitimate problem.

Ok, I would just like to reiterate, as it appears that some may have overlooked one of my points, that these missed deliveries are NOT limited to marketplace purchases. I was at a store and bought multiple items, but did not receive them all even after clicking ok to accept from Magic Box. I personally do believe that this is a Magic Box issue, and so I am not surprised at the dismal lack of response from several vendors. I will say that I have also had shockingly fast response, which is great...but I hate bothering someone who is not responsible for my loss.

Hmmm....a bug about height? So then how would I determine if my skin is in fact perfectly proportioned or needs adjustment? Just refer to the detailed post that uses counting heads as measurement, or is there some other reference note I should also look at?

To answer what does surely sound like a bit of a wild pitch from Commerce Linden, I do not think that my objects folder is the culprit. My habit when opening boxes is to clean as I go. At most, assuming that something strange had happened or I had been called away from housekeeping by an friend's urgent request, I would have maybe ten or so objects in the folder. As has been mentioned by others, sometimes the only solution is to purchase again and when I do that it does drop into that same folder with no problem at all. Also, if I receive five items at one time and only the second and third items don't show, how would that be explained? It wouldn't. It has to be something else. Respectfully, Simerion

Thanks Kyliee, that's it in a nutshell. I have been reading more since I posted...is it possible that because I receive more group notices than I used to that the magic box system is tripping on a bug? I do tend to run around making multiple purchases, but the thing is that this particular non-drop into inventory issue happens whether you purchase instore or through the marketplace. The worst part is then having to rummage through my inventory to see if it really IS missing, which is more wasted time and just a reminder that I got burned for minimum $50 and usually more lindens, lately anyway. I am really concerned now because I am about to make dance purchases and you know how that adds up. If I don't receive those it may well just sour me on ever paying for anything again, which would be no good for anyone involved.

Hi, I am shopping away and spending quite a few lindens...but I'm not getting the products. The order goes through, the merchant sends, I click ok when the grey box pops up and asks if I accept....and then the item is NOT placed in my inventory. If it was free stuff I would just let it ride, but it isn't. Contacting several merchants has produced zero response because I imagine that having clicked OK they figure it is not their issue, and they are right. How can I get the items that are supposedly mine now and yet nowhere in my inventory. Note: I have gone through all of the recommended steps that you all were kind enough to give me when this problem started a week or so ago. It's still happening, and the steps still don't fix it. I am about ready to stop shopping, which would be a bummer.

on th subject of sliders...I always thought I was short, because my friends are taller than me and I don't look tall in comparison to furniture etc. I discovered yesterday that SL has me pegged at more than 6 feet tall. Is everyone in SL tall?

ok, so I stopped by the vista store and I noticed that what seems to be bugging me the most is the impossible angles of wrist and ankle joints. Is that a proportion thing, the vista animations, or something to do with my skin/shape? Specifically on a lot of their dances, but not all, I look great except for the utterly stupid way my hands are right angled out from my body at the end of my arms. I'm pretty sure the mocap chick wouldn't be caught dead dancing like that. I'm willing to put the ankles down to ill-fitting boots, maybe....but no excuse for the wrists comes to mind.

I will try to explain it better, lol. Sometimes when I am dancing or moving, my shoulders get into positions that are anatomically impossible. As well, my neck sometimes sits strangely. I agree that outfits can sometimes cause that, but I think that it is more likely that I am wearing skin or shape that has been superceded by several generations of better technology. I know that my hands, while small and not spread out, still look a bit barbie doll-ish, as do my feet. I see many avis that look much more realistic than I do in certain ways. My avi has a smoothness to it that is still a bit cartoony. I am very attached to the overall look though, and haven't found a skin that I would trade it for yet. Like a lot of people, I am interesting in looking smokin' hot, lol...but definitely not like a sketch from W magazine. Right now I look unlike any avi that I see, and I like that. I just don't want to look like a ten year old design, you know?

Hi, I have a shape that I like. I also like my skin, which was free but has served me well and makes me look good. That said, I have noticed that sometimes overall I get that old school fake shoulder/weird jointed look. I need to understand if this is a function of the animation, although the new mocap stuff doesn't see to fix it so I don't think so, or the shape, because it can't do what the new tech can do, or the skin...for the same reason. Where do I need to upgrade in order to have myself look the most realistic in poses and movements the majority of the time? Also, I picked up my set at the Gorean Welcome Center and I use the sensual body shape and the bronze skin. I like it not just because it is sexy, but also because it doesn't look like a 21 year old model with impossibly long and skinny legs. I prefer to look a bit older than that and I am not into the doe eyes and giant lips although I think artistically they are beautiful. Any recommendations for a skin upgrade that still keeps the 'real woman' look without being even slightly 'girl next door'? Thanks as always...this forum is such a big help to me.

Thanks for all of the tips. Relogging seems to have done it for me this time. I am looking into some of the script mods that keep a lid on it though. Quite an interesting subject....
