We're talking about code here, not trains. There are a lot of ways to do the same thing in LSL. Although it might be impossible with the obvious methods, sometimes there are ways around this. Okay so, y'all are saying the only way to change the objects color on the asset server or w/e you were trying to tell me is by rezzing it?

Oh and to clear the confusion, yes I'm talking about an object in contents. Not a child prim

Would it be possible to set the description and then when it is rezzed or worn it could have a script that reads it's own description and sets the color?

Im currently making my profile picture on sl... what's the aspect ratio? I think it used to be 4:3 or something but i saw that its 1x1 on some viewers... what should I make it?

Is it possible for a script in a hud to interact with a script inside of an object which is contained in the hud? Example: Button on hud to change the color of certain prims in the object contained within. I click red and then take the object out of the hud (or have it sent to me or w/e)and the specified part's color is changed (not the whole object).

Oh thanks! I hadn't found those forums yet! Idk, I just think when theres a specific forum its more of a community rather than a Q & Answer board. I haven't been on these forums long but I've been a member of a lot of other forums and the 'non official' forums are always more friendly and the users have relationships since they see a lot of the same people in different discussions both on and off of topic. They get to know each other better.

Guess I just need to get used to in world support rather than external.. I'm used to forums / text communities. No lag. Can leave and come back. Everyone can see it at their own pace. Idk, it's just simpler

Is there currently an external forum dedicated to LSL? If not, do you think one could survive? I feel as though that would be more helpful as there could be divisions for each aspect of scripting: Weapons, AI, Gadgets, External DB, Security, Animation, etc. And then maybe a debug section, newbie section, scripting classes announced, so on and so forth. Thoughts?

Hey guys, I just recently (re)joined SL and so I've finally (i think) finished making my avatar to resemble who I am, so I figured now it's time to connect with people and start some relationships (nothing too personal). I first started looking for groups but figured maybe it'd be a better idea to just post a thread "All About Me" instead so people can just read through it and such... and perhaps contact me if they wanna meet up or show me other similar people. 1. I'm not looking to RP, I'm an 18 year old male in the US and I will be a freshman in college this coming Fall to major in Computer Science. My avatar matches myself IRL from my cross necklace to the body type. 2. I like to hang out and talk but one of the big reasons I'm here is scripting. I'll probably start using voice... so I think that'll help me enjoy the community aspect of SL more. 3. I like alternative/punk rock music along with christian music. 4. I love business ventures and plan on doing business in SL. 5. I hate tv and thus the reason I spend so much time on my computer (SL, FB, Youtube, Pandora). 6. I want to be a web developer when I graduate (as of now). 7. I live on the east coast, eastern time zone. 8. I'm not looking for romantic SL relationships. 9. I am looking for friends, a club/lounge, and or a nice group to talk to people around my age (16-20s). 10. Lastly, I'm looking for a scripting mentor.. I honestly don't know why someone would volunteer for this 'job' but if anyone is interested that would be more than awesome. I already know a good bit of scripting (I took 2 classes on java IRL and this seems very similar) and I've been having fun with a few little projects that interest me for the past few days.. so I've learned a lot already. Even if someone wants to just give me a few tasks every now and then for me to do or little code problems. I just wanna learn and know that there's someone that will keep it going, help me debug if I can't figure something out, and basically teach me how to fish in some deeper waters. Long post I know, hopefully I'll hear back from some people - or else I must just sound like an extremely boring person..!

Aww ^^ There's a group I think called Second Life Children which is really good to meet people. Also there are tons of events for child avatars.

No I'm american... I mean it was just a rough estimate I just think it'd be cool to hang out with upperclass high schoolers, college students, and recent grads. I'm thinking they'd be more similar and be going through more of the same things as I than say a 30-125 year old..........

How are we supposed to answer this if 1. We don't know what you speak and 2. You can't read what we're saying. I'm going to assume you know a good bit of english and suggest you just become active in a community and talk to other people that speak english. I think this would be the best way. I've run into a multitude of people that don't fluently know english... and yes, sometimes they have to ask me to rephrase or define a word but that isnt a big deal. I believe there are also translators in world. There may be some better ones out now as I havent looked in around a year. Or possibly a Whatever To English dictionary. I would like to complain about a couple things. Keep in mind this is a new account yet I have been in SL for years. 1. I am new to the forums and it is very hard to navigate and see recent posts on my threads or threads I have posted on. 2. The new viewer. I've finally got it set up and running smoothly but I still randomly get kicked off, stuff wont load, and I can't navigate my way around all of the complex new crap they've added (I've used a version from 2009 until now). 3. Although SL is rather large, there aren't the niches I want. Sure, if you want to find a club with 100 light pink and melon green kitten avatars, you'll find that. Or a cookie avatar club. But if I want to find say.. a club with people my age IN REAL LIFE - good luck! 4. I'm starting to get a headace (I've been feeling it coming on for a while) so I think I'll save the rest of my complaints for later. Especially since I've got a date tonight! Thanks for this haha. I'm not looking to RP, I just wanna find a group or club or lounge or something of other people that are 18-24 or so. The typical college age maybe. Because I'm 18 IRL and wanna meet other people my age. Edit: Just realized SL now lets people 16+ in. So I guess maybe a 16-24 group/club/lounge or something.

I just upgraded to V2 and now I'm having trouble loading my avatar. It shows him, yeah, but the skin and clothing etc is all blurry... none of it looks good! Except the prim attachments. I have avatar on high and objects on high. WHAT is the problem? :(

I had the same problem!! I found the fix for this though, I turned off the entire away option. But still having problems with other stuff - GAH!

Or could the item be blocked? I believe sims can block specific items, particularly breeding scripts.
