Linden Lab destroys Second Life: Many of you have heard by now that Ebbe Linden (CEO @ LL) slipped news at Friday’s Third Party Viewer Meeting that LL is moving resources to developing a new platform, a next-generation platform built “in the spirit of Second Life.” I will provide links to related media and articles at the bottom of this post, and I highly encourage you to read them to form your own opinions. But for now, here are a few facts as we know them. The current plan is that the new platform will not be open source at least initially. (This means there will be no Third Party Viewer alternatives at least initially, and there will be a new viewer built by LL.) This could change over the course of time.LL intends to continue maintaining and developing Second Life while they develop the new platform and will operate them in parallel even after the new platform is launched. SL will remain as long as it is profitable for LL to continue operating it.The new platform will be built “in the spirit of Second Life” and will put focus on content creators as the primary customer. LL wants to make it so good SL users will want to migrate to it.Assets (inventory) from Second Life will “likely” not be transferable because they do not want to constrain what is possible by maintaing backwards compatibility. This wasn’t said with complete certainty, though, which suggests some content may be permitted.Second Life will continue to be improved, albeit on a smaller scale. Oz Linden is now Technical Director and in charge of a small team who will keep development in SL going.This new platform is still in very early stages, and it is unlikely even a beta will be seen before next year.

Hellespont is correct Linden Lab just lost track and people have to stop putting theire heads into the sand it is a fact LL is making a mess and we the residents as they like to call us with weird lastnames have to deal with the problems LL creates. I mean for the love of god just look at the problems v3 has in forums, now i dont say Firestorm is any better but hey those Phoenix/Firestorm people at least try to improve a viewer 1 interface styled viewer to make it work as we all like it to be just stable and enjoyable i cant say that from LL saddly. FIX THE MESH! i mean MESS!:smileyfrustrated:

@Esbee Linden: First of all a reply on what Esbee Linden is posting here in overview. A Cleaner User Experience and More Customization Options in Preferences A cleaner user experiance will be for a lot of people to see that sidebar go away compleetly, it is and stays unbelievable what a joke that "feature" is really. Support for External Text Editors when Working with LSL Seems to be ok in this post ill come back to this point when i tryed it myself, Promice i give it a fair chance. Graphics Improvements The only graphic improvement i see and notice is a 10MB cach instead of 1MB, For the rest there isnt much "improved" at all, This one can go to the land of fairytails. Performance Improvements Esbee you are posting we are close to the stablity if viewer 1.23.5, I wonder seems you and all the Second Life residents can see that viewer 1.23.5 beats all viewers avaidable to download on stability (Yes people that is right viewer 1.23.5 is more stable then your phoenix for example!), Then why destroy a good viewer in the first place. Please consider to update it and redevelop Snowglobe. An Auto-Updater Tool Simply sucks what is Second Life now becoming Java? Your update is right here download and instal ready "Instal me! Instal me! Instal me! Do you wish to update your viewer?" Auto Update Checks caus more slowness of your viewer and that is why its a very bad idea. So download Viewer 2.4 -- and keep that feedback coming! Yea right, I did that but am gladly to say that i whent back to viewer 1.23.5. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A quick reply then to viewer2 in general and to the ones that say: "Please stop all the negative comments about this viewer" Well pleople dont do negative comments they just dont like the look of viewer2 the interface the workway the building tools and displaynames. So befor judge me on my point of view we have to keep Linden Lab sharp and make note of our ideas and likes and dislikes where to do that better then theire own forum bloggs? Yes, i dont like viewer2 its buggy unstable and cant deal with the sidebar it looks black hurts my eyes cant find thing, The Lindens have to think about the older Residents aswell not only the newbie noobs! hoping your replying this one Esbee, And also hope you and the team redevelop Snowglobe.

Wacko viewer this is even worse then 2.3 im going back to 1.23.5 that seems to be the more stable viewer with the best funcions and now i go delete sl from my pc because 2.4 overwrights my v1.23.5 thanks for the extra work!!

Your so right with that Burnman it is insane what they are doing lately with all the changes, lets hope the clear minds soon and become like we use to have SL befor this all happend. Im running viewer1.23.5 aswell because i simply hate the interface of viewer2.0/2.1/2.2 etc what ever it is on now 2.2 right i cant keep up every time i logging there is a new one there to anoying blocking my loggingscreem saying download avaidable but i know better then that, No problems with v1.23.5 works fine runs stable more stable then 3th viewer partys for me so no need to change and i hope to enjoy my sl as long as i can on the way i do it for allready 2years that is running viewer1 and not 2.something.
