  1. We are a week closer to Christmas and the New Year. We're promoting a maint-server this week and setting the rest of the channels the upgraded voice code.

    Second Life Server (main channel)
The promotion this week comes from LeTigre/Magnum. There are a lot of bug fixes in here. There are a LOT of bug fixes in here and a few new features. The release notes contain more details. There is a fix for
    • SVC-7499 Poseball rezzing items are either not giving poseballs or rezzing balls in wrong positions

Also included is a new feature called "llTransferLindenDollars" with transction_result that is outlined here:

    Also new is: SCR-31  llGetParcelMusicURL()

    Second Life RC BlueSteel
This project contains voice diagnostics updated to improve our ability to diagnose voice issues. This project is on all three channels this week.

    Second Life RC LeTigre

This is the same "maint-server" project that is on Magnum and BlueSteel.

We will be monitoring this thread during the next week so please feel free to post issues that you feel have been introduced by the new code. Please file a JIRA for issues you find and post the JIRA link into this thread. It really helps us out. When determining if issues are relevant or not research is key. Tracking down exactly the right situation where an issue is occurring greatly speeds up the development process to get fixes in place.
I appreciate your help. Have a good week!

I'd like the Viewer and Server teams to get together on this, and see how the notices and default viewer behaviour interact with each other, because there have been times, when I've used the LL voewer, when I've felt the slightest distraction could mean I miss something.

I'll see what I can do.

Maestro, last week the Grid Status announcement led me to infer we were going to get another grid-wide series of OS-level code changes and restarts. It was supposed to be over by Christmas (now, where have I heard that before?).

We now have the KT channel. Good idea.

But somewhere in the process we seem to have lost the information about timing. Are we going to get the KT tests completed and code rolled out to the rest of the Grid before the 25th? It doesn't seem likely to me.

Maestro and Oskar, you do a good job of keeping us informed, but that last OS change was not fun for us. It wouldn't surprise me if it were officially not-your-problem, but try and get us some better information

We decided to listen to the KT worries and complaints and make certain that there were no issues instead of blindly pushing towards pre-announced dates. I'm sure you can understand our concern not to force potentially broken updates onto the grid just to hit a deadline.

  4. Welcome to December! We're only weeks away from Christmas and the Holidays. I know things were a little rough last week. Hopefully things will smooth out this week.

    Second Life Server (main channel)
This project is being promoted from the Magnum channel. It updates the mutelist to be part of the People API instead of simulator side. We changed simulator behavior to send create/delete events in the mute-list to the People API. Social features on my.secondlife.com including web profiles will fully respect the mutelist i.e. no one should see messages etc from someone they have blocked.
This feature is disabled on the web side until full release to all channels.

  5. The channel named "Second Life RC KT" is simply a new channel to test out a kernel fix. After the kernel upgrades from several weeks ago we have noticed performance issues that were only addressable at the OS level. We have fine tuned the kernel and made an RC channel just for it. The code is identical to the main channel code. There is no new simulator code on regions running on Second Life RC KT. The changes are all in the OS.

It is possible that new issues will be introduced. That is why we made an RC channel for the kernel upgrade. If you notice issues that you believe are new and unique to the RC KT channel verify the behaviour against a main channel. If the main channel works as expected and there are issues with the Second Life RC KT channel please file a jira and report the details to us. Put "Second Life RC KT" in the jira title so we can see it.

I appreciate your help and hope that this kernel upgrade offers better performance than the previous one.

Several restarts of my region, CoDi Island were done tonight.  I counted two and there were possibly three..... After the first restart, things in my home (furniture, decor and part of the house such as roof and deck) were missing.  This is true throughout the rest of the three other parcels on the sim.  I was hoping after the second restart, the things would return but they have not.  I have contacted live support, sent a note to the sim owner asking her to request a rollback, and am also posting here.... Nothing was being built or was in a state of "flux".  Everything was and had been stable and locked for months.  I hope you can help!

Tasha please contact support and report the issue of your missing items.

Okey now the big question why are we have more restarts tonight after those this morning?  Have you guys made another mess and have to do another rollback, you would think with two weeks time you would have at least gotten this one right, but it does not seem so.  Frankly, if LL cannot improve play and stability with these constant restarts, it may be time to ask what good are they doing as for the last two years things have steadily declined and LL has added more and more material to the already overtaxed servers via the restart process.  With a record as clear as this perhaps it is time someone took a close look at this entire process and asked if it is worth the risks.

We do not take rollback scenarios lightly. A serious crashing bug manifested on the main channel that was not noticed while the code was in RC. Grid stability is a huge concern for us and we couldn't allow this code to remain on the main channel. I hope you can understand.

  8. We have found a serious crashing issue after deploy to the main grid today. We are rolling the main channel back to the last stable code. We apologize for any inconvenience but hope that this will offer some grid stability.

    Second Life Server (main channel)
After the rollback this channel will contain the Havok project that was on here last week.

    Second Life RC BlueSteel
This contains the same project with the enhanced threaded region crossing code. You may or may not see region crossing enhancements. This code is a prototype of an infrastructure we may build on in the future. There shouldn't be a noticeable increase in region crossing failures.

    Second Life RC LeTigre
A new "maint-server" project. Details coming.

  9. This week is Thanksgiving in the US and the LL offices are closed Thursday and Friday. Because of this the entire week is in a No Change WIndow (NCW). There will be no server code updates this week.
To help with stability we have planned a rolling restart for Wednesday morning as noted here:
This is just a rolling restart.
All of the channels outlined below have EXACT same code as last week. There have been no code updates made.

    Second Life Server (main channel)
This is the updated Havok project. This keeps us inline with the latest updates from them. There are no features or bug fixes and there should be no impact to vehicles or physics. This has been in RC for a few weeks now with no major issues.
There is a new LSL call "llSetKeyframedMotion". Have fun with that.
    • Bug Fixes
      • SVC-7424 Error rezzing certain mesh objects: "Unable to rez object because its mesh data is invalid."
      • Fix for root-prim meshes from an 'old server' not permitted to enter a 'new server'
    • Upgraded physics engine to Havok 2011.2. This brings in the latest work from Havok. We do not expect any noticeable change from this upgrade, but please let us know via jira if you see any new physics related issues.
    • Implemented llSetKeyframedMotion (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSetKeyframedMotion)

This is the same "Maint-server" project as the last two week.
    • Bug Fixes
      • SVC-5927 Temp on Rezzed objects get queued
      • SVC-7360 Driving a vehicle over into a full region gives strange error message: You can't enter this region because the sebehavior is full
      • SVC-7379 For group notices groupID is being sent in the AgentID field
      • SVC-7343 llMinEventDelay Bug
      • SVC-7354 Simulator fails to load notecard asset (Intan won't read config card)
    • New Bug Fixes
      • SCR-234 Loops throttled by a short sleep run twice per frame on Letigre
      • SVC-7397 impossible to enter the sim of blossom at elven forest realm. Nobody can enter the sim. message is "failed to grant capabilities"

    Hey Oskar
    :)

Last week I posted a JIRA and requested info here on a sim problem I was having where it would suddenly lag and crash. I may have found out why and wanted to offer my idea on it to consider or trash. What I discovered was soon as the newest viewer was released the problem suddenly stopped. Coincidence? Maybe who knows but this did happen before and was cured when a viewer upgraded with plugged memory leaks. Just food for thought that it may not always be the server causing problems
    :)

    thanks

Please update the jira with your new findings. Maybe you already have. :-)

    Hi again Oskar

So, now that the new Release notes are up....Still I see nothing new.  Are we getting revised software?  Maybe I should know but I don't see it from the notes!

Looks like a "wait and see" job to me!:smileywink:

Magnum has new code. I outlined it above. The rest are just updated with merges from server trunk.

I'm assuming llSetKeyFramedMotion isn't quite ready as it doesn't seem to work on Le Tigre and the code doesn't turn red when you enter llSetKeyFramedMotion in a script. I have got it working on the main channel, although the code doesn't turn red there either.

At least I can play around with it for a while before rushing into making anything this way
    :)

These things move in specific patterns. :-) New features move from a single Release Candidate channel to the main channel. Then the other RC channels pull the code from the main channel and merge it into their projects. Then the updated RC code gets deployed on Wednesday mornings. So right now LeTigre and BlueSteel do not have the updated code containing llSetKeyFramedMotion. They will in about 24 hours.

  14. We have made several changes to the inventory system that we expect to improve performance and reliability that we are currently testing on ADITI. We would appreciate it if you would come try it out and give us your feedback.

We have 4 regions on ADITI for testing. I hope you can get a chance to give the changes a try. We will push this code to an RC channel next week unless we find a showstopper. Please take a minute to check things out.

    Thanks!
