DId you buy a motorcycle and try to transfer it to your daughter? If it's transferrable it's probably no-copy and it is a VERY BAD IDEA to have a non-copyable vehicle in SL. Things happen to vehicles all the time and her single incidence of the bike could be hung up somewhere or lost forever very easily. It would be safer to give her the money as a gift and let her buy a copyable bike herself.

So, exactly how did SL "eat it"?  There are certainly circumstances under which you can lose a rezzed item permanently -- no-copy items can be lost during a sim roll-back, for example -- but most lost items can be recovered if you understand exactly what was going on at the time.  Among the possibilioties ....

1. You sent the bike to the wrong person by mistake.  That's easy to do if you drag/drop in a crowd, or if you grab a name that is right above or below the one you wanted in your friends list.

2. Your bike was autoreturned when you rezzed it, so it's in your Lost & Found folder.

3. The sim's servers (yours or your daughter's) got confused when they tried to rez the bike, didn't know where to put it, and sent it to the garbage bin (location <0.0,0.0,0.0> in the SW corner of the sim).

4. The bike never really went anywhere, but your locally cached inventory is screwed up so you can;t see it.  You need to rebuild the cache.

5.  Your daughter was in BUSY mode when you sent the object, so it ended up in her Trash folder.  If she hasn't emptied the trash, it's still there.

There are many other possibilities beyond these common ones, most of which don't involve permanent loss. Take a look here >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Lost_inventory .  Ultimiately, of course, you can always buy a new bike if that one really is lost.  I know it cost L$1,000 but really that's all of $4 US -- less than a burger and fries.  It's disappointing and frustrating to lose anything, but hey ..... it could have been a Kawasaki bike in RL.
