choosing an avatar

while watching the getting started clip it tells me to choose an avatar first and to click "my profile" in the side bar. There is no profile on my sidebar. HELP

Side bar is gone. Right click on yourself and choose My Profile.

Or click Me at the top left of the viewer screen.

Or press Ctrl T, drag  the profile button onto a blue edge of your screen, and click that.

Or go to my.secondlife.com to view your profile.

Hi juneelaine. Once you have installed Second Life and launched the viewer, there is an icon at the left of your screen which allows you choose an avatar from many (humans, vampires, animals and more). Use the arrows to move left/right to choose one by clicking on it. See this picture as an example. Once you have chosen an avatar, you will able to change for another one at any time later and/or personalize him at your best convenience. Have fun! :smileyhappy:
