Hello HeresViolet and welcome to SL Forums:

  1. Confirm that your system meets the requirements for SL here: https://secondlife.com/my/support/system-requirements/index.php
  2. Confirm that you have at least 25MB available in your hard disk
  3. Download from the official page http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ Also don't click "Run". Click "Save".
  4. Check if your firewall blocks the program. More about how you can configure your firewall allowing access to SL here.
  5. Check out if you have any sort of download limits or restrictions on your connecton
  6. Do you run your O.S. as administrator?
  7. If nothing works, try to download a Third-Party Viewer
  8. Ask a friend to download the application for you and transfer it to your computer with a memory stick.

Good luck.
