I created a very simple star I needed for something I'm working on, but when I uploaded it, it uploaded inside-out.  How can I fix this in Maya so that when I reupload it, it is not inside-out?

Unlike maya, SL sees only one side of the faces. You have your normals wrong, all facing inwards. I don't know what buttons to click in maya to change this... others will. Anyway, flipping the normals will solve your issue.

No need for anyone else to answer.  Based on the above answer, I fixed it.  Under the polygon menu set, there's a normals menu, drop down and "reverse normals"

To prevent the problem from happening in the first place, it's best to work with backface culling enabled.  You'll find the option under the Shading menu in every viewport.
