pixlie1488312667
I have tried many times with no success downloading a RL pic. Everytime I click on my picture choice, I get booted out of SL. Is it because I'm using a Mac laptop with Iphoto? I have tried other viewers with the same result. Never have a problem with SL pics, just RL ones. Charolotte Caxton
Ashwin had this same problem not too long ago, he was able to convert his image from jpg to png and got it to work. Not sure why that is, both formats are said to be supported. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Error-message-when-trying-to-upload-real-world-profile-picture/m-p/1275199

Rufus Darkfold
If trying to upload an image is crashing the viewer, a JIRA might be in order. You would want to include the version(s) of viewers affected and an image that causes it to crash. They may also want to know how much memory your machine has. pixlie1488312667
So happy to report....I am now able to download pic's! Someone suggested clearing the cache in Preferences, and that seemed to do the trick. Simple solution and I hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
Charolotte Caxton
Ha ha! That solution is offered up so much that it has almost become unfashionable to suggest it anymore! Glad it worked for you !
