I have just received this email which purports to be from LL.  Not sure if this is a new scam or recycling an old one.

Just a warning.

Dear Second Life user,

Due our latest IP Security upgrades we have limited access to sensitive Second Life account features.
Protecting the security of your account is our primary concern
We understand that this may be an inconvenience.
Please understand that this temporary limitation is for your protection.

How can I restore my account access?

Please download the form attached to this email and open it in a web browser.
Once opened, you will be provided with steps to update your account.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to
ensure account safety.

If we detect a sign in with your username from another country we may decide that we want to
confirm that it's really you. You must complete all steps otherwise you will not be able to use
the online service until we have completed additional security checks.

We apologize for any inconvenience

Never fall of Phishing Scams, If you have clicked a link or installed Spyware on your computer by any chance, I would run a good Antivirus scan on all your drives, Change your SL passwords possibly, use Special Characters, numbers etc. such as for example if I used the password called. Pa$$W0RDÄ2-[-*& it would be a lot harder to guess or crack than just the word Password.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/ is free and helps detect some things Rogue Exploits will not detect on McAfee, AVG, or Norton such as keyloggers sometimes.

Also do not use the same password for your Second Life account, as any other services you use for more security.

If you get fake phishing emails, you might want to submit a ticket, and give Linden Lab the details about it, also you might want to change your email, make one only for Second Life just to be sure, and if you really have questions or concerns about an email, come directly to www.secondlife.com, submit a ticket, or call Linden Lab, do not go through a link in the email, I have got hundreds of phishing emails for many different services, and their sites all get flagged by me to all the Anti Virus, and security companies as being such so that any user flagging such hopefully will not fall victim to such a scam.

Also I do get warnings from most the companies I have accounts with, if anyone so much as enters their password wrong on certain services I use and my account name, it sends me their IP address, and date/time they tried to access my account, but either way there are usually up to 10 Security Questions on some accounts they would have to verify before they even get in, so the moment someone tries to login to any of the services I know who they are, and even if not I know the node/proxy and IP address which the user used and can easily trace the server information, which from there if anything was hacked you can get your account fixed usually by the company as a restore, or get a court order to find out exactly who did it if they were hiding behind a proxy. Also a lot of the services such as a few game accounts I use have Secondary passwords which are required to be entered byt clicking numbers on the service, and a third password which locks the account character/data and good luck to whoever tries to get into those, although there are still some services like Ebay, Second Life, and NCsoft, even Sony which lack security measures.

Hello,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention and we are looking into this further. As you gathered, this is an example of a phishing email and NOT a legitimate email from Linden Lab. For more information about potential phishing scams, please visit our wiki and remember:  Linden Lab NEVER asks for your Second Life password, your credit card details, or other personal information via email!

Kind Regards,

~Xiola Linden
