how do i host contests?

i want to host a contest and i dont know how, like do you have to give them the money, or like i dont know plz help im confused

All contests are not created equal.  If you make the contest, you decide the rules about who can enter, what they have to do to win, who decides, what the prize is (if any) .... all that stuff.  You have to be sure that you don't do something against LL's gambling policy (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Policy_Regarding_Wagering_in_Second_Life) and that you don't do anything that might be interpreted as a con game, but otherwise, just do what you want to.
