Matching Textures On Clothing

One thing that you have to be aware of is that the lower layer is 80% the size of the upper layer so anytexture used needs to be 80% of the upper texture. The other thing is if you have Photoshop 3 extended or higher (as long as it is the extended version) then painting directly onto avatar makes alignment of textures easier.

You should definitely upgrade.  PS7 is not only ancient, it was riddled with problems, even when it was current.  Adobe royally screwed up with that version, and they admittted as much just a few short months after its release.  Among other problems, it's the one and only version of Photoshop that cannot process alpha channels correctly in TGA files, which is more or less a showstopper for texturing.

The free 7.0.1 patch fixes most of the major flaws in 7.0.  At the very least, you should download and install that patch before you do anything else.  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=1851
