You don't need the sign-up email.  You just need to download a Second Life Viewer, which you can find at ...

Once that has downloaded, you will have an icon on your screen to double click.  This will give you the log in screen.  Just log in as you have done to these forums, and you will be taken into Second Life, and given basic instruction how to get started.

All of this is free, for as long as you want it to be.  You don't get a special trial version. Once you are logged in, you are as much a resident of Second Life as everyone else.
