Diaspora Network - your thoughts?

I recently learned of a social network called Diaspora:

From what I understand, it is the 'cure' for Facebook and Google+

Any thoughts?

My thoughts are that it certain looks like a sensible alternative to Facebook and G+ and has user privacy in mind and won't force you to reaveal RL info and/or data mine your information (unlike Facebook and G+).

It's still in its infancy and seems to be taking some time to get it's feet off the ground, but has a lot of potential and I've been keeping a close eye on it for a while.

Interestingly, Google also stole the 'Circles' concept from Diaspora for G+

IMO, the only cure for social networking sites is to get rid of them entirely... but I'm an extremist in that sense.

that said, it does address most of the commercialization aspects that are a plague to other social networking sites, and has the potential to address some other aspects (although not the overwhelming drama that comes with social networking, but I don't think anything can)

Could work for existing communities.  For people in Second LIfe, I think the MySL will work better.
