The grid is the Second Life world, which is made of mainland and islands. You may not be able to connect at the moment due to major OS updates. You may have to be patient and wait till this is resolved.

You can check the grid status on your dashboard to be informed of the maintenance and restarts issues.

[Posted 3:00AM PDT, 5 Oct 2011] We will be continuing the upgrade of our simulator system software on the Agni main grid starting at 5AM today, which will require an extended period of region restarts. We will update this blog when work begins, as well as throughout the process.

Hello Telsh and welcome to SL Forums. In Second Life, a grid refers to an integrated system that provides a networked collection of servers, some of which are simulators that implement the presentation of land. Those are arranged in the form of a rectangular mesh. In addition, the SL grid provides a set of other services, including presence, inventory management, and asset store, that integrate with but are independent of the simulators. We had a little earlier issues in world and will have later again. For the moment region restarts and updates has been completed. Please see: http://status.secondlifegrid.net/

Try to log in a different region and see if that helps. Protected land arround are recommended like Smith or Lime. They are both online now.

If you can't select a different region, in your log in screen give the command: Menu Me --> Preferences --> General Tab --> Enable "Show on login" --> OK.  After click the down arrow where it says "Start at" and choose <Type region name> --> Smith --> Login.

If it is impossible for a while, make some patience and watch this space  for updates.

When the "grid" is talked about in SL it means the virtual world called Second Life.  It's where everything that makes up SL is located.......it's the world where all the avatars roam, build, and play.  There are actually two grids that make up SL..  The main grid........Agni and the test (sometimes called beta), Aditi.  Without the grid there would be no Second Life.

But I don't think that's really your problem.  I appears you can't log in.  But for someone to be able to help you we need to know what your problem is.........like what happens when you attempt to log in?  And some system specs would help even more.  To get your system specs launch your viewer but don't log in.  Under the "Help" menu click on "About Second Life" and you'll see your system specs.  Copy and paste those back here so we can see them.

To add to your thread use the "Options" in the upper right hand corner of your initial post and "Edit".  Tell what happens when you try to log in and paste the specs.  Someone here will probably be able to help you.
