Question

I am operating on a MacBook Pro laptop version 10.6.8 with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3. I connect to the internet wirelessly with my 2WIRE router. I just recently upgraded my internet connection on AT&T to professional high speed. At speedtest.net I am pinging at 61 ms, my download speed is 2.47 mbps and uploading at 0.41 mbps. My render quality in my Viewer is set to Mid, my maximum bandwidth is set to 1100 kbps.

When I first started playing Second Life about a year ago, I started off with Second Life Viewer 2 and had no problems whatsoever, but once I accepted a notice to UPDATE it, that is when the problems started. I could not teleport, I could not receive purchases from the marketplace, outfits were not saving or loading properly, and in order for my avatar to go from being a cloud to full form I had to right click and hit "Take Off<All Clothes"  and then she finally appeared but missing all her attachments. I was so irritated with this, I changed viewers and went to Firestorm BETA. Everything was working properly, I was able to teleport and receive purchases, I was loading fully and everything was perfect again. But Now I had upgraded to Firestorm Beta Mesh and I am right back to the first issue at hand. AND also upon first logging in, it BOOTS my "Internet" & "DSL" on my router. Meaning the lights turn completely off. After being logged in for a full minute, the lights then come back on, but of course I cannot load (my avatar), but everything else inworld loads just fine. It is beyond irritating. There isn't a point to me playing when I cannot do anything but sit on my land. So again, I cannot teleport inworld anywhere, I cannot receive purchases from marketplace and so on.

My internet connection is not the issue since I've had an AT&T service guy here TWICE to check connection, I have unplugged my modem and plugged it back in. I have pulled the Ethernet cord from the back of my Dell desktop and hooked it to my laptop to try giving it a boost. I have scoured the entire internet for forums with tips and tricks for help and I have come across TONS of people - both mac and window users alike - suffering from the same problem. There has to be some other issue at hand aside from people blaming internet connections, especially since all of us had no problems prior to these updates. If anyone can TRULY help, please let me know!!! I'm sick of being stuck at my in-world home (even tho it's beautiful lol) Thank you!!

Yes, there are extremely annoying bugs in the mesh viewers now.  I think the best solution for you is to remove absolutely all of the V3 and Firestorm viewer files on your computer and re-install ONE of them (or revert to an earlier version).  If you reinstall when you have borked versions of the viewers on your computer, you'll just inherit some of their  problems.  See the instructions for a Clean Reinstall at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_clean_reinstall .  They give good directions for Mac and Linux platforms as well as PC.

If you still have problems but can at least get in world, I recommend joining the Firestorm/Phoenix in-world support group (secondlife:///app/group/3a1be8d4-01f3-bc1a-2703-442f0cc8f2dd/about) and asking questions in group chat.  That have an excellent team of support people to handle difficult questions.

The 2wire is an akward wireless router that requires its IP range to be increased to 172.16.0.1 and have its wireless type set from b/g to simply B to work well for second life on macintosh systems. Been looking for a fix for this issue for years, and this did it for me. Follow the directions to the letter.

go into the wireless settings of the modem http://192.168.0.254

go to home network -> wireless settings

enter in router password

go down to additional settings -> wireless mode -> CHANGE to "b"

click save

go to home network -> advanced settings

go to private network -> click on 172.16.0.0

click save

To Anyone who has or is thinking of switching to AT&T U-verse... Do not waste your time and money because the way the Internet connection made with the U-verse Modem/Router called 2WIRExxxx. It sucks big time! After 3 mos of "NO" SL because of AT&T techs inability to figure out why you could only get a half of a connection. SL users tried to give suggestions in forums; but none fixed the problem.

I finally switched back to Cable and all my problems where solved!  AT&T biggest problem is they are great at selling -- but they have "no" network technicians, just marketing employees.
