How do I see how old my avatar is or is it only other people can see and not myself

Using Viewer 2.8 go to "Me"  then click "My Profile".  On the "About" tab you'll see your SL birth date.

Many employers will not hire someone who is less than 30 days old.  Even then, depending upon what type of job it is, you may need to 'look' older, meaning, not like a newbie.  So, look for high quality freebies if you prefer not to buy Lindens to purchase skin,hair, clothing, etc.
