Box Appearing around avatar's waist

So I was in this one store and I joined a group in the store to get a free gift.  However, when I went to wear the free gift a gift box appeared around my avatar's waist instead. Any suggestions?

the free gift will be contained in the gift box you need to go somwhere you have rezzing rights such as a sandbox take the box from your inventory drag it to the ground right click it and then open the contents of the box will go to your inventory as a folder then you can wear the items from the folder

This is a right of passage! Everybody wears boxes at one time or the other. I still on occasion wear a box.

Here is a useful Video Tutorial from Torley Linden that may make things easier for you.  It's done in the older viewer, but the principal is the same in most viewers.

It is also useful to find yourself a Sandbox.  There are plenty around, so you should easily find one using the search tool.  The reason is that not all stores allow you to place an object on the ground to unpack it, whereas a public sandbox will.
