What do you mean with changing avatars? Choose a completely different as in V2 basic mode with the bottom bar where you can choose from different avatars? That is only restricted to V2's basic mode. You can right click on yourself and select "Appearance". Or you can simply wear stuff from your inventory. Or use the outfits folder in the inventory...

If you are using Singularity viewer and it is not letting you wear objects from your inventory then you should go to the Singularity website and ask there. That viewer is a TPV and support is handled by the makers of that viewer.
