EmaliaParker
Why has Michigan recently been added to the prohibited list for Skilled Gaming? I am not aware of any changes in the state regarding online gaming. It has been legal for some time now.
Lilitheve Whimsy
I too would love an answer to this question. Our state has online gambling, casinos, and sports betting apps. When was this new ban put into effect and what is the exact reason? Can you show us the change in our state laws that effected this decision?
Jaylinbridges
Online casino gambling is legal only if you are 21 years of age or older in Michigan. I would guess that is why MI is on the ban list. LL would need to verify your age is 21 or older, and since they don't do that now, it is easier for them to just ban all MI residents. Here are the MI state laws on online gambling where age is mentioned: (d) “Authorized participant” means an individual who has a valid internet wagering account with an internet gaming operator and is 21 years of age or older. (c) The person maintains 1 or more mechanisms on the internet gaming platform that are designed to reasonably verify that an authorized participant is 21 years of age or older and that internet wagering is limited to transactions that are initiated and received or otherwise made by an authorized participant located in this state. https://www.letsgambleusa.com/michigan/gambling-laws/ Edited August 9, 2023 by Jaylinbridges
EmaliaParker
Thank you for the input but our point is that I've been using the SL gaming sites for a number of years now. Nothing has changed other than Michigan suddenly being added to the SL ban list. This isn't something new that we are trying.

This is a resident forum and besides speculations we wouldn't know unless they posted it somewhere.
EmaliaParker
I looked into submitting a ticket for Contact Support and you have to fit into predetermined subsets and this issue fits none of them. It's looking like me and my friends will just find another place to spend our time and money. Thanks everyone for your time and input.

Nothing has changed other than Michigan suddenly being added to the SL ban list. This isn't something new that we are trying. I still think it is age related. Michigan legislature recently modified the MI gambling statues from 2019 to allow persons 18 and older to participate in online sports gambling. Recently means a few months ago. But in that new section, they also stated that casino style online gambling was still allowed only for persons 21 and older, and that the online business running the gambling casinos, which is LL, must have ways to assure all online users that gamble from the state of MI are over 21. LL has no such system - you can lie about your age, use a family members credit card, or have a checking account under 21 connected to Paypal. LL does not verify your age to earn lindens from gambling. Maybe this new change in laws woke up the LL lawyers, and decided they better add MI to the ban list, for all those gamblers between 19 and 20. All we can do is speculate. You can file a ticket under any related category, such as a land issue or account issue, and then explain what the real question is. They don't reject your ticket if you happen to not have a specific category for your question. Why you think we should have the answer, and not ask LL, who does know the answer, is a mystery.
