Hello cdf114. We have one occasion when you can't leave a group if it isn't a glitch or temporal problem.

If you're the last owner of a group, you are not allowed to leave it without appointing another person to the role of group owner first.

Some important things to note:

•Any land contribution you have given a group (to pay for group-owned land) is removed when you leave the group.
•Leaving a group removes your ability to edit, change, or sell land held by the group.
•Leaving a group makes you ineligible for any pending group dividends.
•After you've left a group, no trace remains on the group's membership list. Group notices and voting proposals that mention your name are not edited automatically, and continue to exist for the usual timespan.

Two things I see here from your post that seems everyone else is missing. 1) The only time you are not allowed to leave a group is if you are the last person with "owner" role. 2) The only time you are taken money for group liabilities is if the group owns land that is being shown on search from the about land settings.

1) If you are the last "owner", eject everyone else from the group until you are the only member. Then on the group general settings make sure you make it a closed group so that nobody can join. After 48 hours if there is only 1 member in the group it will be deactivated and deleted.

2) If there is land involved, then you have two choices. A) Sell the land, since you are the only member left and the only owner, you will get money from the sale of the  land. (maybe). B) Abandon the land and move on, problem solved.
