is there anyway to find out how many alts you have if you dont remember them

Assuming you haven't purged your computer's viewer logs, you will find a folder for each and every account, alt or otherwise, that you logged into in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife.   assuming you are using Windows 7.  Look here for other OS directory locations.  http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User_settings

If you no longer have your logs as Cinnamon described, maybe you still have the activation emails for them? Emails are no longer sent to activate a new account, but that only changed recently, so for older accounts they would have been sent.
